A salvage title makes the car worth less. Also I dont think a bank would give you a loan on car with a salvage title. There are probably more than just one Computer in the truck. It could cost $2000 to replace all of the computers. Plus, some of the wiring could be fried. If you have the know how to replace computers and possibly wiring it sounds like a pretty good deal, especially if you are just going to buy the car to drive it. However, I would be careful. This truck could be a Flood and not STRUCK BY LIGHTNING. It says no body damage, and if it got struck, there would be some paint damage. To check it for flood damage, check the fluids, oil and transmission. If the Trans fluid is a Light Frothy pink than water is present. Also smell the inside of the car for a moldy smell. Also if there is a strong smell of air fresheners in the interior, they may be trying to cover something up. If you are interested in more cars like these, check out my Dads website. He has both Clear title and Salvage title repairables(mostly clear title). Most if not all previously totaled damaged cars in NY recieve Salvage titles. In Michigan, only some cars get salvage titles. He has been doing this for 20 years and none of the possible BS. www.larsonsauto.com

Larsons auto, I frequent that site all the time. Wow, thats your Dad's site. Nice place but hes got some pretty damaged cars while theres also some light theft cars. That Silverado in the lower left hand corner on the front page has been there for the longest time, tell your Dad its time for a change, hes got new inventory all the time.
Anyways back to that Titan, that salvage yard (Sawmillsalvage.com) specializes in water damage cars. They have mainly late model brand new flood damaged cars that were flooded on dealer lots.
Yeah that Titan is probably a very good deal. The best thing to do would be to have it thoroughly inspected and see what needs to be replaced from the lightning strike.

Yea that silverado has been gone for almost a year. People who usually buy cars from my dad are experienced in fixing harder hit cars, they can get parts cheap and fix it themselves. Now as for the Titan, I would DEFINATLEY check out the Motor, Trans, and axels for water. Flood cars can be really bad if the water gets into the motor or trans. If that is the case, than I would advise you not to buy it. The truck may run fine for about 500 miles and then BAM, Throw a rod. Your best bet would be to get a theft recovery, easier to fix, no lingering smell and seats and steering columns are easy to change. Just keep checking the site for new arrivals, My dad tends to buy more cars in the summer. You could also email him, his name is John, for any questions on new arrivals. Also if you do find a car elsewhere and need to locate parts, just PM me and I can assist you.

Edit: I just noticed it was a 4x2, so just one axel. Although usually they are pretty well sealed, so it may not have water in it.

Ummm.... how is this even possible? (Yes, call me an idiot if I'm missing something blatantly obvious...) Isn't the car riding on rubber? I.e., isn't the car not grounded, making it impossible for it to be struck by lightning? Unless it has that metallic strip people put on it to ground it from static discharge...

Hmm.

Yea it is riding on rubber but if that rubber is wet and the ground is wet and both are touching then it will be grounded thus allowing lightning to strike it.

Makes sense to me

The again I could be totally wrong. T

his is the way my shop teacher explained it to us in Auto Mechanics class

why does everyone think that water is a good conductor of electricity? Water is not a good conductor of electricity, so I highly doubt it would happen like that.

Distilled, de-ionized, perfectly pure water is non-conductive or very poorly conductive.
Thing is, any water found out there is mineral and therefore ion-ridden, hence excellent conductivity.

Yeah the theft recovered vehicles are the best. If they have none to minimal damage, do they still keep their clean titles?
I suppose the Titan is not a flood car because the salvage yard would've mentioned that in the ad description. The only issue with that truck is the lightning strike. The issue with the truck now is that it won't start. I wonder if its a "no crank". I wonder if its even getting any power or has the alternator been destroyed. I agree with you, the wiring could also be fried.
With low level floods where you just have to replace the carpeting, is that all thats the issue or do you still have to consider water seaping into the engine area despite the "low level flood" fact?

What happens if you buy a vehicle with a salvage or a rebuilt title? Is your only option to junk it when you wanna sell it or is their anyone else other than salvage yards that will buy them? Rebuilt seems a little more practical.

If the flood water reaches the carpeting, then the engine and trans can get affected. The main thing with the motor is that if the car was running, then water could have possibly been sucked into the intake. For the most part, if the water is only at carpet level than water would have a hard time finding it's way in through the bottom of the motor. However, the Trans has a seal at the tail shaft and water could get through there. It sounds like this car is a lightning stirke, but If I were you, I would seriously consider not purchasing the car unless they get it running. With all of the Cars my dad sells, he ALWAYS gets the cars running, unless the motor is bad, also lot drivable if possible. Now on to the salvage/rebuilt title thing. A rebuilt and a salvage title are nearly one in the same. Ok lets say you buy the truck: It has a salvage title, after you get it all repaired, it MUST be inspected by a certified salvage inspector(usually cops do inspecting on the side for the extra cash). After the SALVAGE title truck passes the Inspection, It will recieve a REBUILT title, and now can be registered and insured. So Rebuilt title cars are essentially Salvage title cars that have been inspected. Hope that straightens out the confusion.

Yeah, thats pretty clear. One more question though, if you get the rebuilt title and hold on to the car for a while and then wanna sell it at a later point, what are your options other than to a salvage yard?

You can sell it to anyone you want. Although you wont get as much for it as a clear title car.
