I was surfing around today and landed across what I think is the mother load of Asian cell phone technology showcases! This guy is lucky!!!!! I want to have cool phones like this, my Sanyo 5150 is old and played out.........just wanted to share the excitement.

Its such a damned shame that we are so far behind the times in cell phone technology. We were the first to have the big analog almost suitcase sized phones and we have never caught up since. I used to think there were perks to living in the good ol' U.S. of A. but now a days w/ terrorists targetting us and ancient cell phone technology (compared to asia) I might just say its not all that peachy for Yanks. Any other country we visit we look like big ATM machines and/or targets for people who want to make a statement to Dubya. This world seems to be going down the

What are you talking about? Beyond the slow data layers that they have on their cell phones, most of their network is less efficient than say AT&T's TDMA network. Only FOMA (W-CDMA) and AU by KDDI (which is CDMA) is anywhere near advanced what we have here.

Their handsets are made like that out of necessity. Their network infrastructure for most systems there in japan suck pretty big time compared to what we have in the US. Most of the switches and base stations are in fact made by foreign companies there. All the technology implemented there are done so by foreign Companies years ago (IE, lucent, nortel, motorola) , and they usually have to bring in US expertise for consulting.

They might be advanced on the consumer side handsets, but network-wise, they're pretty down there. (Spectral and network capacity ineffiencies, etc.)

Also, remember that people have different needs. Most people don't use their phone to read email or surf for information since 14.4k speed is too slow, and they have a computer that does that already. Well, guess what, that's what it is in Japan. With the exception of 1 million AU by KDDI users and 100,000 FOMA users, most phone networks top out at 14.4 (same speed as CDMA One WAP w/o Dialup).

Similar stuff on AU (CDMA 1x) is available on Sprint and Verizon anyways.
