stereo headset for gx30

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: kajama

hi there i have motorolla's fm stereo headset & SE head set wich came with p900. when i insert them into my sharp there only a mono SOUND of an mp3 =(may be it is all because of a JCK incompatibility? i think that gx 30 has a stereo output
is it so?

Posted by: haharryboy22002

as i mentioned earlier ;the gx 30 headsets are now on sale
in vodaphone shops for -uk £13they work just fine

Posted by: The_Riddler

Are there any pictures of these headsets? on any websites?

Posted by: wind30

I got a standard 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter so that I can plug in my standard earphones, with stereo. But it seems that you cannot plug the 2.5mm plug all the way in. You have to go in halfway and you will get stereo. Same with the nokia stereo headset I have tried. You just have to plug halfway in.....

Posted by: kajama

it means that not every headset works =( this one (motorola stereo + fm) does not work even if it is in half way mode =)

Posted by: otakuisland

Plugging it in halfway won't ever work because the contact for the second channel is on the outside of the plug.
(So I don't believe that wind30 is telling the truth)

There is a suitable one availabe on eBay. I bought it myself from this seller and it works great. Its from Speedy (Hongkong) and originally intended for the GX32 but since those phones are almost the same it also works for the GX30.

The Price is £7.98 including shipping from Hongkong.

You can find it here:

???

my set is GX32. I definately heard sounds from both my left and right earphones... so that must be stereo right??

just go and get a CHEAP 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo converter (2 rings around the plug). Cost like 1USD.... then plug in any stereo headphones... I am using my grado SR80.... quite okay though the bass is weak.

Posted by: otakuisland

I have tried it many times! That why I can't believe it.

The only thing that you might be getting through your method is a dual mono sound because the stereo contact is definatly on the outside.

Posted by: kajama

no WIND is telling the truth. mya headset (from SE p900) works only in a halfway in stereo
but when it is fully inserted teheris a mono sound on the left side
i dont think that SE uses a cheap hedsets so ... what is the problem with it

Posted by: wind30

so err.. I haven't played a song that has very strong difference in the L/R channels. So have anyone experiment on this????

I could be getting dual mono... then that sucks...

Posted by: wind30

Does anyone know of any MP3 with very strong panning effect or different L/R channels?? searched for over an hour but still cannot find....

want to test if I am getting true stereo

Yes it should. I can't really think of why it would not work? It's just a headset

Posted by: otakuisland

No it doesn't.... You need 4 channels. (left / right / mass / mic)

I'm searching for a picture of a suitable one.

edit: made some with my GX30.

This type of plug is needed:

Posted by: wind30

thanks,

I think the normal connector like the one I have and the one riddler shows may not get true stereo, just dual mono....

So what if I want to use my own 3.5mm earphones to listen to MP3. Do they sell this kind of plug ANYWHERE????? I can so some soldering...

Or must I buy a headset with this kind of plug and cut it up.... which headset's have this kind of plug?? I heard NEC 616's is compatible... is it true? but that model is not available in singapore... any other models?

Posted by: otakuisland

Hello!

The only place I know is that eBay seller I mentioned above.
He sells an article which is normally only available in HongKong.

As I have been told by Vodafone Sharp dosn't produce this headset anymore.

I don't know if the NEC headset is compatible and I don't want to buy it since they want 25 Euros for it.

The picture I made is from the Headset of a Motorola V2288 (because my stero headset is in my car). But on this you will have to change the wires to get it working. (I didn't)

Posted by: wind30

otakuisland,

actually I need 3 channels. I don't care about the mic

if only they made the 2.5mm jack compatible with standard earphones...

BTW, what does mass stand for?

Did you get the speedy headset from ebay for your GX30? how is the sound quality of the playback?

Posted by: otakuisland

Of course, for music you need only 3 channels, but you won't ever get stereo on this phone with a standard earphone. (Thanks VF)

I got the Speedy Headset and it works quite well...
Only the bass is not really that good, but of course better than the built in speaker.

Posted by: wind30

Okay,

finally I have gotten a track with TWO distinct L/R.

http://aibyrequest.com/5hatu25/Fant...Left-Right).mp3

So the veridict is......

the simple converter works!!!!

I am happy now

on further testing, I realise that the left channel has some of the right channel sound mixed together. BUT this proves that both the left and right channel can be accesible by the simple 2.5mm plug.

otakuisland (or any kind soul),
can you post a pic of the actual headset plug for GX32. esp how the 2.5mm plug looks like. Or can you tell me how many rings you have around the plug? 2 or 3. The motorola headset you shown earlier has 2 and is a "normal" 2.5mm stereo jack. I think your GX32 headset may have 3 rings instead of the normal 2 rings that comes with the stereo plug.

did you confirm that your headset is giving you true stereo and not just dual mono? Try the MP3 I linked. It is VERY obvious.

Now I think my connection is L/R shorted at the tip section of the plug while the R is connected cleanly to the ring section of the plug. So I REALLY think the 2.5mm plug should be the 3 ring version (found in certain nokia headsets).

here a pic of the converter I am using

Posted by: k2bk2bk2b

erm.... not exactly....
there an overlap on orginal stereo earpiece.
i too tried the converter... but the sound frm both sides werent stable.
check yer pm wind.

Posted by: wind30

okay,

I just got some new info. It seems that the ORIGINAL headset from smartone HK has three rings on the 2.5mm plug.

So now I get it. The tip is probably the mic or something. The next 2 sections (bordered by the rings) is probably the left then right channel. The sleeve is ground.

my alignment probably like that

jack----mic | left | right | gnd ??
plug------------| tip | ring |sleeve

For stereo headphones the tip is connected to the left ear piece and the ring is connected to the right ear piece.

So that is why my left ear piece has both the left and right channel sound while my right ear piece is clean with only the right channel sound.

going to buy a cheapo headset with a 3 ring plug, then solder the connection to a 3.5mm jack, then try see if it works

Posted by: k2bk2bk2b

good luck,

some money aint worth saving, especially on such a good phone u paid 800 for....

Posted by: wind30

Sorry I just saw the original headset and it only has 2 rings, so it is the standard 2.5mm stereo plug with a metal ring surrounding it just like the one otakuisland posted.

But I tested the sound and it still fails in delivering proper stereo. I think my GX32 may be faulty.

Posted by: kajama

i found it ! MOTOROLA sterea headset from mpx200

Posted by: wind30

kajama,

did you check if you are getting true stereo? (I have linked a mp3 in this thread which has 2 distinct channels) If you can hear only ONE vocal in each earpiece, then congrats, the headset really works. Then I would want to get one myself cuz I think the mpx200 is available in singapore.

Posted by: kajama

gimmi 10 mins

Posted by: kajama

i'll try at home .. forgot my sd card reader =(

Posted by: wind30

kajama,

did you test out your new headset?? not meant to hurry you but I was looking for a headset for very LONG time and if the moto headset really works I will buy one fast

thanks

Posted by: k2bk2bk2b

lol..... i tested it already b4, its still dual mono.

Posted by: kajama

If this price is correct, then why do they have them listed on their website for 25 pounds, not 13?

Posted by: phone-natic

Has anyone bought/used the adapter from here?

http://pc-mobile.net/sgx32.htm

Posted by: YESH

i have the speedy ones and i gotta tell u that even though they are stereo , THEY ARE CRAP... or maybe i just dont like em coz i just sold my P900 and that thing had amazina amazing sound

Posted by: Haribolman

I can confirm that the stereo headset from the NEC e606/e808/e313/e616 works brilliantly on the GX30. It is in stereo and the answer button works too!

You can use the headset button to answer an incoming call (even if you're using the MP3 player) or to end a call. If you were using the MP3 player when the call came in, then the player automatically pauses during the call and you will need to restart the player using the "M" Key (the button in the centre of the joystick). The headset button's only limitation is it will not pause the MP3 player during normal play.

Please note that you need to hold the button for a second or two for it to answer or end calls. And yes, it will answer calls with the clamshell closed.

And here's the best bit...it was only $14 AU from a Three store in Australia. Excellent value!!

Posted by: Rohanoz

Just to backup the previous post - I can definitely confirm that the NEC stereo headset works perfectly, and is not too bad a quality product for $14!
The 3 store in Pitt Street Mall even let you test it out to make sure your songs sound OK!
And yes - it is stereo.

The audio quality is very clear at 128mbps, however there is a distinct lack of bass. Maybe in the GX40...or 50...or 60...

i bought the adapter in the end. and i have to stick the thing out a bit from the phone..if i push it in fully i get only one side. like the earphone jack can go in fully. but i have to pull the phone connection bit a bit out. its alright though. i left it in my pocket and it didnt move or come out at all

Which adapter are you talking about?

Posted by: bronco

2.5mm to 3.5mm head phone jack adapter.

Posted by: wind30

bronco,

did you test out your adapter with the test mp3 I linked earlier?

The problem with the 2.5mm and 3.5mm adapter (for my GX32) is that the right channel sound get mixed into the left ear piece so I hear both the R and L channels on the left ear piece...

I am thinking of getting the adapter phone-natic mentioned. Looks really good but have anyone bought it from them???

Posted by: bronco

im a lazy bugga and its the weekend man.. ill try out the mp3 song later on. when i do push in the thing fully all sound gets channeled to the right side. sux big time. but i pull it out a bit i get full sound.

Posted by: shaolinmonk

i would if the old SE mp3 player attachment one's would work...

hey guys i found this posting in yahoo auctions - someone's selling the earpiece stereo adapter plug in hongkong. check this out:

http://page.auctions.shopping.yahoo...35?aucview=0x23

legit or not? looks cool and cheap too!

Posted by: Chris C

anyone know how long the e606 stereo headset is? i got the retractable version and it's WAY too short. i can't even put the phone in my pocket because it'll make the earphones fall out. thanks.

Posted by: Haribolman

I've got the standard e606 stereo headset on my GX30 and it's just the right length. With the phone in my pants pocket there's just the right amount of cable to give me freedom of movement without too much getting in the way. Although, if you were tall the cable might be a little short. Excellent value for $14.95 through my local 3 shop.

I've also got the retractable headset on order (for the princely sum of $65 with delivery through Expansys Australia). I'll be miffed if after paying that much I find out it's too short. GRRRRRR.

Posted by: Haribolman

Yup, the retractable headset arrived and as Chris C says "it's WAY too short"!

What were they thinking when they designed this? The headset is made by "I Tech Dynamic" in Hong Kong and must have been designed for 4 foot high Chinese women bent over working in rice paddies!! That's the only way it would reach from your pocket to your head! Well, that's $65 down the drain.

Anyway, I'm very happy with my standard $15 e606 stereo headset so I'll be sticking with it. (And it sits in your ears properly whereas the lousy retractable headset falls out as soon as you breathe!)
