Buying at Future Shop?

Hello all,

I was looking to get Fido's 3390 and at a loca Edmonton Futue Shop thay mentioned to me they had this customer plan that was, I believe, $30, that covered the "performance" of the phone. So that should anything happen(except have it phisically/visibly damage) to my 3390 I would simply bring it in and exchange it for a new one. That would be for 3 years.

Now, I actually have a friend who bought a TV from Future Shop 5 years ago with the customer plan and he's had to get it serviced twice now. The last time the repair man said it would have been $130 for the parts. Consider that when my friendgot the TV, he paid $100 for it on his $1000 TV.

He swears by it, but I'm not sure. Anyone have experience with this?

Both you and Futureshop are gambling. You're gambling that perhaps you have a shoddy piece of equipment that will break down in their warranty period and Future Shop is gambling that it won't and you'll be out the $30 for the insurance. I'd say that most phones if you take moderate care for them should be fine well past any warranty or secondary warranty that might be on them. Unless you're afraid that a Canadian-Pacific train is going to roll over your phone you might do better on spending your $30 elsewhere. Aftermarket warranties are usually not a good deal.
