well the cool thing about canadian maximas is the all digital display. There also really reliable and they are tanks. And if you into modding mods are easy to do and come pretty cheap. I would checkout www.maxima.org I forget the site for lexus owners

98 Maxima owner right here.

Ugly? The 4th gen's rear is a bit blunt. Otherwise, I think it's the best looking Maxima out of their 6 generations.

The digital displays (trip odo, odo) were only available on the 98-99 production years. Digital climate control was available on select SE models I believe.

The VQ30DE engines are bricks. They will run literally forever.

The biggest issues with the Maximas are the oxygen and knock sensors. Be prepared to replace them if you decide to buy one.

I can't think of anything else out of the ordinary that may need replacing for a used Maxima. CV joints, dustboots, and all that other typical wear items.

Overall, excellent car for the price. Sucks it requires premium fuel.

Any specific thoughts you're looking for? Until then, feel free to gawk at mine.

Oh, and another thing, the paint on these cars are absolute crap. Don't let the pics fool you, the hood, bumper and front fenders look like they've been sandblasted off. I get new rock chips every time I wash.

i think that's for all VQ series engines...

Get the Maxima.. cheaper, regularly available with a 5-speed and they respond very well to modifications.

Or a SC300 5-speed.

Also knock sensor on the VQ30DE sucked after about 125k miles you need to replace easy DIY job I recomend the 97-98 because carb legal supercharger and the Red/Clear tails lights are readily avaliable 95-96 had a diffrent style tail lights and one person made the red/clears the David L's hard as ×××× to find got a pair for a friend cost as much as Jspec tails for my car 390 bucks.

Bonka- My mistake about the digital dash I've yet to see one in person and allways get my years mixed up...

Honestly, if you do your research, and don't rush into things, you'll find a Maxima in tip top shape. All I had to do with mine when I got it was get new tires (came with snow tires) and an oil change. There's another Vancouver Maxima owner that bought his Max not too long ago. I remember seeing that Max in the Buysell, and judging from the asking price, I'm sure he got it well below $10,000.

And like bigjigga says, the 97-98 production year is the best. They have the fewest problems.

The Org (forums.maxima.org) is the largest Maxima board online. More friendlier boards are nissanforums.com and nwmaxima.com.

If you're budget is $10,000 Max (excluding taxes), I'd say look for the 95-96 production years. It'd be pretty hard to find a nice solid 97 in that price range, however. Don't fret though, although most agree that the 95-96 front and rear's don't look as good as the 97-99's, you can swap it over when your budget expands down the road.

The 95-96's also seem to be the most performance-mod friendly. They have the upgraded ECU available, which will help immensely if you plan to install MEVI to make it an all-motor engine, gaining you that top end that the Max really seems to lack on the stock engine due to their long intake runners.

go with the es300, its pretty much the same as a glorified v6 camry.... and those cars were known to be pretty relible

the lexus also has the better interior, quieter and smoother ride..

Posted by: BMWFilms

the es300 is a smooth cruiser...enough power coupled with luxury and it's a lexus...nuff said

Thanx again to all u guys........specially BONKA.......i never realized theres a difference between (body) 95/96 and 97/98.........ive just realized that

I test drove a 93 ES300.........WOWWWW,thats all i can say.......havent found the ideal MAXIMA to test drive yet.........

Posted by: KaviOne

I'm on my 5th Maxima, I've had a 92, 95, 97, 2000, and I have a 2002 now. My next car will be the Infiniti G35 coupe. But, I love Maximas and I find them superior to other cars. A Maxima has all the features that a luxurt ES300 has and more and they are more powerful and faster

GET THE MAXIMA

From your two choices I'm assuming that your looking for a sporty luxury car. You should take a look at the Infiniti I30's. They are the same as a Maxima and come pretty much loaded. They may be hard to find but they are out there. I had a 97 which I loved but the 98's added traction control, limited slip dif, outside temp display, and side airbags. You should be able to find one pretty cheap.

I'm not a Maxima or a Lexus owner, but if you ask me. I will take the Lexus. LEXUS --> LUXURY.

ES300 is more rare than a Maxima.

Actually, for 10000$CAD, you have many choices. Shop around, it takes me almost 2 months to get my car, after search, found, test drive, think, think and think and inspect and buy.

yay another maxima owner! ive got a 98 max. yeah i would definately try and get a 97+ model. the front end is nicer by a mile. and i agree about the paint :| its pretty bad.

i dunno about the lexus though...the interior will be really nice, and the engine will be reliable... but its not even remotely exciting. and its not particularly good looking - the rear looks downright funky. basically youd look like an old man driving it!

the maxima looks better (nicer rims too), is faster, and depending on how well its been taken care of, just as reliable. im a bit biased, but i would go maxima!
