Warranty on P900 with burnt pixel?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I recently got a P900 and noticed a possible burnt pixel on the screen. (the top line where the icons are).

When I turn on the P900 with the white background I don't see the burnt pixel, but once it is on, with the bar and the icons I see it.

Is this actually a burnt pixel and can I return it to Sony for a replacement under warranty?

Thanks

I understand you need several (with my Powerbook - it is 6) burnt pixels before they will service it.... Not entirely ceratin though. How old is it? If you have only had it a couple weeks, you should try to exchange it where purchased!

They are often called "stuck" pixels, because the can be stuck in either the on or off position. In your case, it sounds like one of the pixel sub groups (each pixel has three elements, red, blue, and green) is stuck in the on position 100% of the time. This would mean that when the pixel is supposed to be on, as in the case of a white screen, it would look fine. But if the screen was supposed to be darker, the full bright green or red pixel probably looks incorrect.

Sometimes you can gently message a pixel into working again. I'm not sure if this will work on a touch sensitive LCD panel.

While it's true that Apple requires as many as 6 before they'll take it back, that is also because their panels have many more pixels, around 4.5 million if you count the sub pixels. The P900, on the other hand, has a paltry 200,000. So it may very well be that 1 or 2 stuck pixels is considered a defect.
