I purchase my 8900 from cellular south 2 weeks ago and began the jouney. This procedure works on my phone.

cid attached is my root.zip file. Many thanks! What would we do without you? spork thank for the cool edit knowledge.

MP3 Ringtones on the Audiovox 8900
(With no web service) ie. Cellular South

Creating *.mid ringtones from your favorite mp3’s or CD’s (spork)

1. Take the song you want and bring it into your favorite .wav
or .mp3 editor. I used Cool Edit Pro with mp3 plugin.
2. Trim the clip down to the size you need; about 20 to 25
seconds is probably best.
3. IMPORTANT! Filter out anything below about 120 Hz and
above 8 KHz; the tiny phone speaker can't play it anyway.
I used the FFT filter in Cool Edit Pro to brickwall everything
outside that range.
4. IMPORTANT! Normalize it back to 100%.
5. Optional: If you have a limiter plug-in, you can usually boost it
even more beyond that unless the music is highly compressed
to begin with. I gave it an extra 2db and the clipping was not
noticeable.
6. Save as a 44.1K mono file.
7. Use your favorite editor to convert it to an .mp3. I have the
mp3 plug-in on Cool Edit Pro. I save as MP3. I set the output
to 64kbps mono. You'll get *much* better sound quality at low
bitrates if you set the lowpass filter to about 8K, since the
phone's speaker can't play anything that high and you
probably filtered it out anyway.
8. Rename blah.mp3 to blah.mid.

Ringtone Tool (cid420420)

1. Go to http://home.woh.rr.com/anarchyinc/ringtonetoolv1_1.zip
2. Download ringtone tool zip and extract.
3. Make sure the ringtone song you want to put on your phone
is renamed to a mid file extension. Make sure the file name
including the “.” In “.mid” is 15 or less characters.
4. Using bitprim 0.7-test 8 Expand +db and right click on
| download_snd.txt | highlight and left click on Save option left
click on |Save | to save copy of file to your PC.
5. Start | Programs | Audiovox 8900 Ringtone Tool.
6. | download_snd.txt | select download_snd.txt on your PC and
| Open | the one downloaded in Step 4.
7. | Ringtone | Open ringtone you wish to download to Phone.
8. | Write New download_send.txt |.

Download Ringtone to Phone (cid420420)

1. Using bitprim 0.7-test 8 Expand +db and right click on
download_snd.txt highlight and left click on Overwrite option.
Open download_snd.txt on your PC. The new one written
(overwritten) in Step 8.
2. Using bitprim upload your ringtone to phone by expanding
+ user. Expand +sound. Expand +ringer. Right click on
ringer, highlight and left click on New File option. Select
ringtone you selected in Step 6 and left click on | OPEN | to
download to Phone
3. Turn off Phone and then on your Phone. Menu 7. Settings 1.
Sounds 1. Ringer Type 1. Ringer Curser Right and select new
ringtone.

Will start on pic next.

Thanks again everyone.

Just a note on bitpim.

I had the latest version when I started before reading cid post.

I got 1 ringtone to work once and I kept geting a shrill beep when I selected it and the phone did not play the tune when I dialed it. I deleted the ringtone from the phone using the phone not bitpim. I downloaded bitpim 0.7-test * from glockjs post
it will take you right to it. Thanks glockjs

uinstall the latest bitprim before intalling this version.

who the hell is cellular south?

Posted by: 2tone

Cellular South is a Laurel, Mississippi Company who initially provided coverage to Mississippi, Memphis TN and the Gulf Coast and Florida Panhandle. Sprint, Alltel(formerly cellular one), and AT&T are starting to cover the Interstates. If your need coverage in rural areas your pretty much have only one choice. They have promised web coverage next year, but they also promised to install a tower at crossroads 3 years ago and only now have the permit approved and have dropped their nationwide no roaming coverage with the introduction of CMDA tri mode phones.

I used your post on another thread to download graphic wallpapers and screen savers. Downloads ok but the graphics loose their animation? Any suggestions?

You and other Cell South guys should check the Free WAP topic on page one-- the setup info in there works for our phones!

those are only wallpapers. no animations as of yet. noboby has really figured out how to make em work yet unless you have some sort of way sending em via email. which cricket does not have. i will make animations as soon as i know they can work for my phone

Posted by: hitman440

CELLULAR SOUTH is the best around here. Where else can you get unlimited calling anytime from memphis tn, all of mississippi and all the way to the panhandle of florida for only $49.99 a month. No one else around here can touch that plan.
my ringtones work great.

Expanding is moving the mouse pointer to the box with a + in it and clicking on the + which will expand the directory tree.

Same as in expanding the directory tree of you hard drive in windows explorer.

im having trouble installing the ring tone tool it keeps saying a file is busy even though i have ntohing else open when i install it. an i still dont see where i can expand anything in bitpim. somone please help me out here

Posted by: DarkDisciple

Hmm... I know this is a bit late, cause I just registered, but have you tried selecting View >> View Filesystem, then clicking the + sign to expand it?

I'm under Cellular South, and it works fine for me. I've downloaded several ringtones to my phone. I'm doing a little experimenting too, as I have some experience writing in C++.

Posted by: jman80

So i've followed the instructions given here using the ringtone tool and everything....still doesn't work. Could anyone post their download_snd.txt or help?

what phone are you using my program with and what carrier?

Posted by: jman80

I am using the 8910 phone and I have US cellular carrier. I know where to put the tone in the filesystem and to change the download_snd.txt and upload it as well. Somehow this is still not working, when i go to it on the phone it plays nothing.

the problem is my ringtone tool was written for the 8900 the download_snd.txt is a little diffrent on the 8910 what i would do is overwrite your download_snd.txt with a blank file in my experience with the 8910 if you just put the tones in the correct place and go into the brew menu they should appear in your tones list

Posted by: jman80

oh ok i didnt realize the program wasn't written for the 8910 and that they are different. From what i've tried already, just putting the tone in and going to it on the phone won't work either. I think i need someone with an 8910 to post their download_snd.txt and it could work.

Does anyone have the ringtone tool?
