Does the slider measure up to the hype?

No doubt the slider has received a lot of hype based on its innovative form factor. I am wondering if you slider owners think the phone has lived up to the hype?
How long have you had your slider? How is it holding up (durability)? Do you think you will keep this phone for awhile? Will this phone become the flagship phone for kyocera?
What do you think?

> How long have you had your slider?
6 months or so
> How is it holding up (durability)?
Fine... has survived a couple of housing changes and a couple of drops.
> Do you think you will keep this phone for awhile?
Yeah, unless I get caught up in the Moto v710 hype.
> Will this phone become the flagship phone for kyocera?
Not this model, but if they come out with a similarly-sized Slider with a camera that may be the one.

How long? About 3 Months
Holding up? Great condition, dropped it a few times but only a couple of smudges.
Will I keep it for a while? Yes, unless I end up wanting a plan later, but I doubt that.
Will this phone become the flagship phone? It's a great phone in Kyoceras line-up, and the only one better coming out is the Koi.

If it had a camera, I would say it's the perfect phone. its still a good phone nonetheless...I've had it since christmas and I've had no problems so far. great phone

I've had my Slider for 3 months and its definitely durable.
I've dropped it at least 12 times and by now it has some scratches on it around the edges of the phone and one tiny one on the screen but that's my fault for not being more careful.
If you have fat fingers/big hands then a problem you may have with the phone since its so tiny is that it can easily slip out of your hands and the keypad is very thin (the digits barely stick out of the phone) which may take some getting used to. On the other hand, this is the only phone I've had that is smaller than my wallet and because of that, sometimes I have trouble finding it in my pocket since it's so small, light, and compact. I think that's definitely a plus.
In my opinion, the picture quality of all those camera phones blows so it doesn't really bother me that the Slider doesn't have that cheesy gimmick feature. Speakerphone, on the other hand, is very useful for me
Later on if you get around to it and have 30 bucks to blow, you can buy a data cable and read the threads on here to find out how you can add MP3s to your phone.
Overall I'm pleased with this phone and I'm planning on keeping it for at least another year (if I don't break it).

I did a fair amount of research (reviews, etc.) on the slider.
I'm about to buy one to replace my Audiovox CDM-9500.
From what I've read, the phone is very solid and has all the basic functions you would need.
As far as durability goes, some folks think it will implode on contact from a fall - but these folks don't have the phone, and are basing this on the fact that the display is exposed and not protected like a flip phone.
But, some of the comments here, from owners of the phone, claim otherwise that it is durable, which I'm glad to hear.
It also seems that the phone has a sort of "cult" following, where it is discussed quite a bit on the kyocera forum, but barely at all on the verizon providor forum.
When someone posts a "what verizon phone should I get?" question to the verizon forum, most of the responses are LG4500, Motorola xyz, etc.
Also, I was in a big VZ store the other day, and overheard several customers asking the same question....Every rep directed them to one of the standard flip phones.
I actually prefer that the phone not become that common, and remain slightly unknown. I've had the Audiovox CDM-9500 for 18 months, and have never once crossed paths with someone with this model phone. This is amazing in consideration that I work in NYC and walk past zillions of people on the phone every day.
P.S. I will miss the big giant bad-××× color display of my Audiovox 9500...But I won't miss it's bulky size or horrific battery life.

I went from the 9500 to the Slider myself.
To remedy battery life, get the 1400mah battery off eBay... I could go almost a week on it. I had to squeeze it into the case but it was fine.
And you don't have to miss the 9500... I switch back and forth now and then, especially when I'm on travel and think I may hit an analog area.

Thats good to know...I I didn't realize that.
I do remember reading somewhere that you can switch esn back and fourth from verizonwirless.com.

I've had my Kyocera slider for less than 2 weeks, so far so good. Its light and nifty. Seems durable.
