Recommend me a DVD Headunit

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I need a DVD headunit that DOES NOT have a flip up monitor or anything like that, it needs plugs for an external screen. My parents bought a van and I get to put it the stereo, TV and all that. I already picked out a 7.2" 16:9 drop down LCD monitor to use so now I just need a headunit to pair it with. Thanks to any help in advance.

Alpine makes some of the best car audio on the market today. Check out the site below... pricey, but you definitely won't go wrong.

Wow, we can't spend that much. Maybe $200 MAX. Also this has to play regular CDs and be able to get AM and FM radio.

$200?

Fine, then don't buy a DVD player for your car.

I'm talking USD not CAD and I'll be getting it off eBay so I'll be getting one.

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing.

It's not about Swiss Bank Accounts, it's about trying to buy something with too low of a budget. Good luck!

Yeah, no kidding. A normal low-range Alpine MP3 unit is $200.

I don't need an Alpine, there are other brands. Just as long as it plays DVDs, CDs, and has a AM/FM tuner, I'm fine.

I would so get a decent one or don't get one at all, but I doubt a $200 USD is going to get you much at all. Mine cost me just under $1000 for everything and I'm quite satisfied with its abilities.

Since you already have an LCD a have heard a recommended one is the Pioneer DVH P5000MP for about $425. I'm sure Alpine's are good, they always have good product, I just don't what they have for DVD players. If you have to go cheap then go for the JVC KD-DV5000 for $290.

Wait a second... are we talking about audio or video on DVD?

Hey thanks Skylinepilot, that JVC is exactly what we're looking for.

There's car decks that can play MP3 and WMA files off of DVD discs, so you can have 4.7 gigs of music as opposed to 700 megs.

DVD audio as in the system the new TL has.

DVD video - I guess we all know what that is.

Ok, I wasn't sure what you meant. I want a DVD video player, as in The Matrix, etc.

No prob, a fellow WRX owner that lives down the street from my work makes that actual display I posted so I just snagged some info off his ebay auction.
