Hi, newbie here. I tried to search for this stuff, but I found so much info spread out over too many threads, I can't keep it all straight. And I can't seem to find the info anymore. So, I'm going to ask all of you what I need and hopefully you can all help me.
I want to make my own custom ringtones for my phone. I have BitPm and the cable I need to upload. How do I change from .mp3 to .mid. I can't seem to figure out where on my computer I can rename the extension.
Is there a file size limit on the rigntone? If I keep it 30 seconds or less, I'll be fine? Does it have to be a particular sampling rate? How do I set the ringtone on repeat if I need to? Is there anything else I need to know that I haven't asked?
Thanks for all of your help in advance!

thats a lot of questions in one post!
1- you should be fine with 30 second ringtones - i usually do around 50 seconds but if they havent gone to voicemail by 30 then itll auto repeat.
i personally use a freeware program called audacity to trim my mp3s but to each his/her own and i usually set the sampling rate to 32
as for the extension changing you prolly have it hid in windows
a. go to the folder where the mp3 is you wanna change to a mid
b. to go tools>options>view tab>uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"
that will show the extensions...then just rename the file and chop off .mp3 and make it .mid...those are windows xp directions so it may vary a tad for 98, ME and 2000
good luck!

You sure that works on the LG-4500? I've tried everything I possibly can, and can't get anything onto my phone. The data center support people tell me that there's no way to get ringtones to my phone except through Get It Now.
The 4500 doesn't support MMS, and currently no tools (that I can find) will attach objects using Verizon's EMS protocol.
Smack me in the head if I'm wrong! I've been messing with this for a week with no luck!

Narifscool,
Thanks for the pointers!
Nafai,
Yes, you can download ringtones and wallpapers to the 4500. You will need the serial cable that comes with Verizon's Mobile Office. Then you need to use the program call BitPM. I don't have the link offhand, but there are a ton of threads that do.
I made a 30 second ringtone, and my voicemail picks up after ringing for 21 seconds. That seems very short. Not just because I don't get to hear all of the ringtone, but I sometimes miss calls if I don't have the phone in my pocket.

geocab, yeah, I've seen all of those, but I'll be doing this on a Mac. Exporting and controlling MIDI and MP3 files will be no problem, but I don't want to fork out $40 and find out that there are no drivers for OS X.

Well, that stinks, I don't think they do support Mac. All they have listed is a "A laptop computer with Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP installed."
I hope someone in this forum can help you, I don't know anything about Mac computers. I'm lucky I know anything about Windows!
