Here are the hosted links for 8900 stuff!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

If any of the links don't work PM me. It would be due to my innaccurate typing skillz.

Enjoy the files. I have unlimited bandwidth so you can pound it all day and my ISP will not start crying. I also have another site I haven't even used yet that is way bigger than this one and I could host some unlocking tools for Nokia, Motorola, etc. if anyone needs them really bad and can't find them anywhere else.

Bitpim 7.11.zip

Futuredial USB Driver

CID's Original Ringtone Tool

CID's Ringtone Tool Version 1.1 (The New One)

Glock's Wallpapers

Remove Camera Sound, Etc.

Posted by: SnoopyII

^BUMP^ help keep this thread near the top. thanks

Posted by: cid420420

snoopy i would remove version 1.0 of my prog the header in version 1.1 is far superior its exactly what the phone would write itself if it loaded a ringtone into the download_snd.txt i removed it from my server

Posted by: SnoopyII

okay CID thanks for telling me.

Posted by: glockjs

you might wanna post bitpim test 8 too.

<bump>

Posted by: madnick

Awesome, this needs to be stickied.

Would it be allowed if you posted the non PRL ERI's to remove the vzw banners?

Posted by: SnoopyII

Concerning the banner remover I am sure it is okay. one of the other threads have it. I will look for it and if it is around I will host it with the warning that it is ONLY for the Verizon version.

As to Bitpim 7 build or test 8 it is on the sourceforge website. Actually EVERY version is there.

Here is the file for removing the Verizon Banner for the 8900. PLEASE read this thread before attempting the job.

Here is the "Smitty" file:

Sorry...I'm a little new at this. I haven't messed with the "download_snd.txt" file before. Could someone please posts some sort of tutorial on how to use the "CID's Ringtone Tool"?? I searched the forum and can't seem to find anything about it. Plus, I'm sure it would help out more people than just me.

Thanks for any explanation of this!!

im not too sure but you could try the cricket thread

Posted by: cuwmb2

WOW... I must be blind... THANKS!

Posted by: glockjs

no prob

Posted by: bonch

hey guys.. i forgot to make a post about this a while ago, but i've been working on a RingTone/Camera Pic/Wall Paper/Animation tool for the 8900 (specifically Verizon Wireless) that connects to the phone automatically and writes everything. basically it will work with any cable and you will no longer need bitpim to do any manual work. i'm about 60% done. as for the phone book, im just going to have it backup/restore the entire thing because i'm not sure how to parse/edit the phone book yet. otherwise, i have all the of the above mentioned working.

i uploaded a screen shot of the work in progress to my website: . any comments or feedback would be great. thanks.

Posted by: glockjs

sounds good bonch, keep us updated. the pic didnt come through. maybe just post a link to your site.

you might wanna pm cid420420, he's pretty good with the 8900 and writing programs. maybe you two can get it done twice as fast.

Posted by: glockjs

nevermind, i see the pic now...stupid explorer... looks great

Posted by: cid420420

my major question is how you got around the brew locked files like nvm_hei? this would be some useful knowlage to all

Posted by: bonch

well i haven't had to touch nvm_hei yet, but if needed in the future, you can set the phone in Sleep Mode, and then upload a file as "pending" and have it overwritten with the next reboot, i think? i'd have to do more tracing of the brewapploader for that, but why do you need to access that file?

Posted by: cid420420

because headers for the animations are stored in there along with a lot of other intresting nvm_ files and part of the phonebook data i think i belive it was the group data

Posted by: cid420420

i like your ui in the picture what language are you using and what compiler

Posted by: bonch

ah yes, i see where it stores the file type for each graphic/animation.. i'll do some more tests to see if we can get this info to be auto-updated on reboot, or if we can set the new graphics to images that dont correspond with existing entries in that file..

vb6

Posted by: cid420420

funny enough thats what i'm using our code is compatiable if we can't write to the nvm_hei then we can't add animations there isn't really anyway around this if the phone finds a file in the download_ani.txt file and dosen't have a coresponding refrence in nvm_hei then it automatically says the file is invalid

Posted by: cid420420

plus without being able to overwrite those files we will never be able to do a full backup and restore which would be nice

Posted by: bonch

didn't one of those GAGIN guys say he made a patch to overwrite the locked files?

Posted by: cid420420

i think so but gagin is brew 1.0 not 2 like ours you would think they have beefed up the security from 1.0 in that area

Posted by: bonch

oh ok, well then, i guess we can forge a dummy SMS message with all the images to upload at one time.. i still have a lot to understand about the SMS message storage system though.. but it should work? i mean, we can re-write all the files related to SMS, and i dont think anything is needed in the /nvm/ folder, but i could be wrong..?

Posted by: cid420420

again images are really no prob its direct manipulation of animations because of nvm_hei images don't have to be stored in the nvm_hei file
ps who is your carrier

Posted by: bonch

when you say images, you mean wallpaper or the camera images? because i was unable to load a created "download_img.txt" without any new wallpapers giving the invalid file error, because it did not have the matching entry in nvm_hei.. any .jpg, .gif or .png needs an entry there so the phone knows which decoder to use when reading the file (at least thats my guess).. but are you saying you can directly manipulate wallpaper images without nvm_hei entries?

Posted by: cid420420

actually i don't think i have ever checked on the cricket 8900 you can just insert the image into the /brew/shared/images directory go to brew settings manage apps and it will appear either way we need to be able to access the brew lock files for full backups like if you download a brew app and you want to delete it off your phone to save space if you put the mif back on you phone the phone will still delete it even though it came from your phone due to the lack of an entry for it in the nvm directory this sucks i'm not trying to steal apps just keep the ones that are paid for since cricket is introducing games and apps soon

Posted by: cid420420

what do you use to do your tracing?

Posted by: flippinthephone

The Ringtone tool keeps giving me talk about the files all being outdated. If anyone knows how to fix this, give me your aim address, or add me to msn, humanhorrorfilm@hotmail.com

Posted by: lickwid

try installing the newest vbrun driver

Posted by: flippinthephone

Can ya get me the link to that or something, I can't find somethin' on it. It may be cause I'm an idiot.

next time just try a google search

Posted by: flippinthephone

Thank you very much.

Posted by: flippinthephone

Does anyone have the Project1.cab file with the updated dlls and such? That's what is messing up.

I followed the instructions, but I get a "Error uploading".

I took the first 25 seconds of "smoke on the water", changed the MP3 to 64 kbps, and 22500 Hz mono ( now it is 200KB ).

Renamed the file ".mid", but I get the error...

I also renamed the file smoke.mid, same result...

I have of course, a 8900 ( from Telus ).

ok this tool is made for the verizon wireless phones, but it should work for the telus with a little modification. i noticed you have no other ring tones on your phone? when you connect, your list should be automatically imported. is this correct? if so, your upload error might be because the directory does not exist. i had that problem when i first got my 8900. in the mean time, you could try using bitpim to create that directory. i'll have to update the code to check for that. umm, but if you already have that directory and have other uploaded ring tones, then we have some other problem.

also, dont rename the mp3 to mid. i leave all my mp3s as mp3 and mid as mid.

also, the smallest file size for mp3 ring tones can be made using 24kbs 22500hz mono, instead of 64. it sounds the same on the phone but will save you around 100kb in file size. if you use cool edit pro, just set the bit rate filter to around 7000. here is an example: Julian Theory - If I Told You This Was Killing

and only the ring tone feature is working right now with my tool, although wallpaper and getting camera pics will be finished soon.

Posted by: schwarz2

Wow bonch. You're my new hero. It's awesome. It rewrote the header file or whatever the phone uses though so my old tones were lost (they're still in the mms/om directory - just not accessible by the phone itself). I'll just download them back through bitpim and put them on with your program.

Amazing man. As a side note, any chance I can see the source code? I'm getting into vb now and I'm curious how you accomplished it (if not it's cool.. just wondering). If so, email is otherside80 (at) hotmail dot com =)

Huge thanks. Next toast is for you

I think I have found the problem...

The directory names are not the same on Telus !

I will have to check tomorrow ( forgot cable at work ) but most directories are abreviations.

You should allow configuration of the directory names...

Plus, it appears the file content is not the same.

I am a professional software developper in C++ / C#, with some experience with VB.

Would you be willing to let me help you, by sharing with me your source code so I can try to adapt it to Telus ( I can't garantee anything thought ).

I would give you all my mods and agree not to give out the code.

If interested, e-mail me : mp[at]martinpierre.com

I have succesfully used the makeindex file to modify the .txt file : both my ringers appears now ( one is the ein kleine music from Mozard, a true mid and the other is jt-killingme.mid ).

The true mid plays, but not the MP3 !!!

Any ideas ???

I notice that next to the ein kleine, there is a little music note displayed, but not next to the jt one.

Posted by: vox8900

Mpierre,
Try not using special characters in your ringtone name. Take out the dash and try it. I read on here that the phone will freack out if there are characters other than letters and numbers in the name.

thanks, i should be able to get telus working soon. i have included support for the different index file and will update the path as well..

does your telus store "download_snd.txt" in the folder "db"?

also, with our 8900, we dont have to rename the .mp3 to .mid, but is that a requirement for the telus 8900? and i guess it could be possible that they have different mp3 decoders so maybe only certain mp3 bitrates work.

Yes, that doesn't change.

I don't know.. I assumed it had to be a .mid Will try tomorrow.

i created a new thread so that we could keep track of brewsky easier.. i also uploaded v1.01 beta that includes support for telus index structure and also has Get Camera Photos and Wallpapers working..

Posted by: freelane704

i used brewsky to get my ringtones....everything is fine but when someone calls my selected downloaded tone does not play...why?

Posted by: freelane704

brewsky works fine for cricket phones.......the ringer was'nt playing because the phone number i was callin from had a set ringer in my phone book....so all cricket users ...get ya brewsky on..enjoy

Posted by: Brav1111

Make sure you have the Area Code in your address book entry.

So if you had only the 7 digit phone number in your address book the default ring will work for that contact. If you put the 9 digit number, it will use the special one you selected.

Posted by: Kanookstr@boatf

Posted by: Coop6

Found the problem Mr.Rogers..

Connect to the port that your modem is on not the diagnostics.. one..

the drivers put it on two ports in my case 3 and 4..

so connect to the modem and it shoudl alll work

Posted by: sirhotness

coop6 can you give a step by step to what com port to put it on, i see it in control panel that mine is on com 4 but when i use brew or bitpim it wont connect, i get errors or open port. if you can help that would be great.

thanks

Try this thread

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=409784

Posted by: Coop6

Ya.. I will help you...

First off , are you using the crutiel drivers?

If you are right click my computer go into hardware and then device manage..

and connect to the port that it says that the phone modem is on.. not what com prot it says the usb diagnostic thing or whatever is on...

to find out what com the modem expand it .. and it will say crutiel packet service.. then right click properties.. then go into modem tab it should say at the top what port its on

* note * to get brewsky to work.. you must first run bitpim..

Click view and go into view filesystem then hit the plus.. in the log you will see a bunch of stuff like this

12:54:49.687 COM3: Opening port COM3, 115200 baud, timeout 3.000000, hardwareflow 0, softwareflow 0
12:54:49.717 COM3: Open of comm port suceeded
12:54:49.750 Other CDMA Phone: Listing dir ''
12:54:52.750 COM3: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read
12:54:52.765 COM3: Changed port speed to 38400
12:54:56.265 COM3: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read
12:54:56.280 COM3: Changed port speed to 115200
12:54:59.828 COM3: Timed out waiting for 7e, requested bytes 1 - 0 bytes read
12:55:02.858 Other CDMA Phone: Now in brew mode

once your phone is in brew mode you can then close out of bitpim.. and connect to the same port on brewsky.. and it will do anything you want...

Hope i have helped ya... I know how frustrating it was untill i got it

Posted by: sirhotness

ok i can get bitpim to open the file system and i can see it finally, thats one step closer, i would feel safer using brew though, when i start up brew it wont work, says port open, when i close bitpim first then open brew under same com port, which is 3, it says port open and wont let me see the file structure, let me know what to do from here, thank for all the help man i really appreciate it.

Hi all,

I'm new to this so please have patience I got my 8900 last week from verizon (annoying banners and all). read through all the threads to try to fully understand the process...I already had the Mobile Office Kit from VZ, so I am using the straight USB data cable and drivers that came with it. downloaded bitpin with LG4400 setting but it will not recognize my phone. any ideas?

also, do I need a hex editor if I am just overwriting bin files as a whole (with the files that this forum has graciously supplied!)

Thanks,

crooner

I just got my data cable for my 8900, I tried to install it with the crucial generic cable driver, but it can't seem to find the phone. could someone let me know where I can get a copy of the driver? Thanks very much!

You should try the cable providers website, then if no luck try some generic drivers and search forums like here and cellphonehacks.

how come i have to open and close BITPIM first before BREWSKY can connect to my phone? anyone know how to solve this problem?

Posted by: Vinhtvu2

People People People, all you have to do is read a little...

I just got the 8910, I got ringtones on it and working FINE

The instructions were a little unclear and there are a few missing steps here and there... so I figure i'll do a full fool-proof instruction

All you need is:

Cable
USB drivers (futuredial)
Bitpim (I use version 0.7.28, newest one)
Audacity
and some Mp3z

Step1:
Dont plug up your phone yet, install the driver first!
After installation is complete, plug up the phone, it will automatically install. To check to see if it installed correctly, go to the Hardware Profile, under Ports, you should see the futuredial Port... and it will be connected to COM3, or COM4

Step 2:
Go to the Modem, under hardware profile, and see the property, to see what COM it is under, mine is COM3.

Now go back to the Ports and go to the Futuredial property. Go to the Port Settings tab, and click on Advanced Settings. Change the COM Port Number to the same number as the Modem, which is COM3 for me. It will tell you that it is used and might cause error... ignore it and click ok.

Step3:
Install Audacity and run it, you will need Lame Codec file... download it and put it anywhere... C:\windows\ will do. Now go to Audacity and go to the preference
click on File format. Under MP3, click find library and point it to where you left the lame_enc.dll file, also change the bitrate setting for MP3 to 32.
Now load any MP3 you want and trim it to about 30 seconds or so, and then go to Project>Quick mix. After quickmix, on the side, click on the name of the MP3 and select "Split Stereo", and close one of them, change the leftover one to "Mono". There are easier ways to do this I am sure... but this is how I did it and it WORK.
You can also set the SAMPLE RATE down to 16. Now go to file> Export MP3 and save it, you have yourself your ringtone!
For those who want a test file, I made a couple popular songs...
Beyonce ft. Jay-Z - Baby Boy
Sir Mix-a-lot - Baby Got Back
Usher - Confession part 2
Greenday - Boulevard of broken dreams
Gretchen Wilson - Redneck Woman
Destiny's Child - Soldier
Usher - Yeah!
T.I. - You dont know me

Step4:
Download and install BITPIM. After installation, launch it and click on settings. Change the port to the same as the one for the MODEM, which should be the same for the FUturedial port also. Use the setting for a LG VX440 or 6000.
Now click on VIEW and check the FILE SYSTEM.
Now click on the FILE SYSTEM tab, and go to rintones folder.
Now right click and select NEW FILE, now select the ringtones and add all the ones you want! You can add about fifteen or so if they are about 50k each...
now just unplug the phone, go to menu>4>1>CLR
that will update the phone's listing. now go to menu>6>3 and all your ringtones will be listed there!

I am trying to do animations on the phone now, so far, no luck yet because of the locks... I cant get animation files on there... hopefully soon... till then... have fun with ringtones!

I'm almost a year late to this party!

I had a T720 that died over the weekend. Upgraded to the Verizon CDM8940 a couple of days ago. Took me all but a couple of hours to get everything going. Note that I had to perform an additional step that I didn't see listed anywhere else:

1. Used Futuredial cable for LG6000
2. Installed Futuredial USB drivers for LG6000
3. Installed Brewsky 1.01 beta
4. Configured the COM port for the phone as COM3 using Device Manager
5. Connected to phone in Brewsky
6. Selected Ringtone and added to phone queue
7. Clicked 'Upload Ringtone'
8. Clicked 'Yes' to reboot phone
9. After reboot, went to Menu -> Media Gallery -> Tones
10. Erased all tones by hitting Menu -> Erase All (don't worry) ==== ADDITIONAL STEP
11. Went to 'Get It Now' and allowed the phone to connect to the menu
12. Exited from 'Get It Now' and returned to Media Gallery -> Tones
13. Tones were now playable

I'm guessing that Step 10 is needed since the index file that holds the ringtone info is for some reason not refreshed when the phone is rebooted.

Here are my hardware/software versions:

SW: D160VE4T07_2.173
HW: TX-160C_REV_04

Good luck, and thanks to the Brewsky folk(s) . . .

i uploaded a screen shot of the work in progress to my website: . any comments or feedback would be great. thanks.

Man, you are the man. I got a beta release of Brewsky 8900 and it's awesome. After many useless attempts at getting anything to work (correctly) with my 8900, I got your software and it works. I now have mp3's and pic's uploaded. One thing I noticed is that after my phone reboots brewsky didn't recognize it so I have to open bitpim, refresh the "filesystem" tab, close bitpim and re-enter bresky. In that order I can re-connect to my phone. Awesome stuff, and I appreciate the time that you put into it.

I do not have an audiovox but am thinkin about trading my kx2 for the 8940. I just want to make certain of a few things. You can put ringtones, videos, mp3s, and pictures on it with bitpim correct?
I read in a bio about the phone that it has a streaming multimedia player and a mp3 player, is this true? If so what are the size limits in megabytes? ie how many songs can you put, how many videos, etc.
Also is free wap available on this phone?
Any one had problems out of theres?
I hope im in the right thread. Sorry if i am not.

Hi Guys Need a little help over here! I need any program that can pull stuff from the 9900 so i can send this other phone back to Verizon any help is greatly appreciated.

Posted by: glockjs

wow. still goin. lol. thanks for still hostin the stuff snoop. dont know how many times ive re formatted my drive since then but instead of remakin the wallpapers i just downloaded em lol. work fine on the 8910

Posted by: gwtexas

When I go to the bitpim home page, it says that the 8900 basically sucks and NOT to use bitpim with that phone. Is it really that bad?

Posted by: TakenAback

There's some inherent risk, but this seems to be true of any Curitel phone, as their filesystems are a bit more touchy than other brands.

Still, there's an equal risk of using BitPim with the 8910, and I use BitPim with one all the time without incident.

If you wish, you can use Brewsky or QPST instead.

I just downloaded all my pictures through BITPIM 0.8.07 with my curitel USB cable (using the curitel drivers that came on the CD) i can see all the Dir. i'm gonna start messing with stuff now. cant thank you enough

I can't download any of the files. Is there another place that I can find these programs?

Posted by: Halipender

What exactly is the Futuredial USB Driver?
Should I use that instead of the drivers on the CD that came with my USB cables?

Posted by: Cpuboye11
