Originally posted by mpierre I followed the instructions, but I get a "Error uploading". I took the first 25 seconds of "smoke on the water", changed the MP3 to 64 kbps, and 22500 Hz mono ( now it is 200KB ). Renamed the file ".mid", but I get the error... I also renamed the file smoke.mid, same result... I have of course, a 8900 ( from Telus ). |

Originally posted by bonch ok this tool is made for the verizon wireless phones, but it should work for the telus with a little modification. i noticed you have no other ring tones on your phone? when you connect, your list should be automatically imported. is this correct? if so, your upload error might be because the directory does not exist. i had that problem when i first got my 8900. in the mean time, you could try using bitpim to create that directory. i'll have to update the code to check for that. umm, but if you already have that directory and have other uploaded ring tones, then we have some other problem. also, dont rename the mp3 to mid. i leave all my mp3s as mp3 and mid as mid. also, the smallest file size for mp3 ring tones can be made using 24kbs 22500hz mono, instead of 64. it sounds the same on the phone but will save you around 100kb in file size. if you use cool edit pro, just set the bit rate filter to around 7000. here is an example: Julian Theory - If I Told You This Was Killing and only the ring tone feature is working right now with my tool, although wallpaper and getting camera pics will be finished soon. |

Originally posted by bonch thanks, i should be able to get telus working soon. i have included support for the different index file and will update the path as well.. |
|
does your telus store "download_snd.txt" in the folder "db"? |
|
also, with our 8900, we dont have to rename the .mp3 to .mid, but is that a requirement for the telus 8900? and i guess it could be possible that they have different mp3 decoders so maybe only certain mp3 bitrates work. |
I got my 8900 last week from verizon (annoying banners and all). read through all the threads to try to fully understand the process...I already had the Mobile Office Kit from VZ, so I am using the straight USB data cable and drivers that came with it. downloaded bitpin with LG4400 setting but it will not recognize my phone. any ideas?|

i uploaded a screen shot of the work in progress to my website: . any comments or feedback would be great. thanks. |

I just got the 8910, I got ringtones on it and working FINE The instructions were a little unclear and there are a few missing steps here and there... so I figure i'll do a full fool-proof instruction All you need is: Cable USB drivers (futuredial) Bitpim (I use version 0.7.28, newest one) Audacity and some Mp3z Step1: Dont plug up your phone yet, install the driver first! After installation is complete, plug up the phone, it will automatically install. To check to see if it installed correctly, go to the Hardware Profile, under Ports, you should see the futuredial Port... and it will be connected to COM3, or COM4 Step 2: Go to the Modem, under hardware profile, and see the property, to see what COM it is under, mine is COM3. Now go back to the Ports and go to the Futuredial property. Go to the Port Settings tab, and click on Advanced Settings. Change the COM Port Number to the same number as the Modem, which is COM3 for me. It will tell you that it is used and might cause error... ignore it and click ok. Step3: Install Audacity and run it, you will need Lame Codec file... download it and put it anywhere... C:\windows\ will do. Now go to Audacity and go to the preference click on File format. Under MP3, click find library and point it to where you left the lame_enc.dll file, also change the bitrate setting for MP3 to 32. Now load any MP3 you want and trim it to about 30 seconds or so, and then go to Project>Quick mix. After quickmix, on the side, click on the name of the MP3 and select "Split Stereo", and close one of them, change the leftover one to "Mono". There are easier ways to do this I am sure... but this is how I did it and it WORK. You can also set the SAMPLE RATE down to 16. Now go to file> Export MP3 and save it, you have yourself your ringtone! For those who want a test file, I made a couple popular songs... Beyonce ft. Jay-Z - Baby Boy Sir Mix-a-lot - Baby Got Back Usher - Confession part 2 Greenday - Boulevard of broken dreams Gretchen Wilson - Redneck Woman Destiny's Child - Soldier Usher - Yeah! T.I. - You dont know me Step4: Download and install BITPIM. After installation, launch it and click on settings. Change the port to the same as the one for the MODEM, which should be the same for the FUturedial port also. Use the setting for a LG VX440 or 6000. Now click on VIEW and check the FILE SYSTEM. Now click on the FILE SYSTEM tab, and go to rintones folder. Now right click and select NEW FILE, now select the ringtones and add all the ones you want! You can add about fifteen or so if they are about 50k each... now just unplug the phone, go to menu>4>1>CLR that will update the phone's listing. now go to menu>6>3 and all your ringtones will be listed there! I am trying to do animations on the phone now, so far, no luck yet because of the locks... I cant get animation files on there... hopefully soon... till then... have fun with ringtones! |
