Hello all,

I've read all the posts about VM to VZ flashing, etc. and I kinda got it, but maybe not.

Here's what I want to do:
Buy a VM Slider and get it to work with my existing VZ account.
I'm not concerned about WAP or Get it Now.
I just want the phone to work and the standard functions (contacts,etc.).

Is this possible without flashing/upload/download , etc.?
I thought one of the posts I read said something about if the phone is "unlocked", then is all you need to do is activate it on verizonwireless.com ?

P.S. I need to do this because the goons at verizonwireless CS verbally told me I was elegible to "early upgrade" both phones on my plan, and I when I got to the store they told me no dice. I called CS back and they verified that the first CS guy made a mistake, and that's that....

Yes, you can do this without the cable, but it would be much better with it. without the cable, you would still be under VM's firmware with no GIN and maybe some troubles with roaming (some people complained about this). You can buy a data cable that works for the slider for about $20 (the LG VX600 cable), so it is really to your advantage to change the firmare...

I definitely would prefer to change the firmware.

My fear is that from the posts I've read it's not too hard to "fry" your phone.

When I get there I will search and read the threads more thoroughly.

If you don't care about WAP or Get It Now, just reprogram the phone. You wouldn't need the cable unless the phone was activated. If it was activated all you would need the cable for is to retrieve the SLC from the memory to enter the phones programing screen. There was a long thread about how to do it a while back.

In order to work under the VW network the phone must have the right PRL (preferred roaming list) once it has the right PRL the phone can be activated by OTA (dialing *228). Without the right PRL you can't use the OTA programming. It can be older PRL but i must be a Verizon PRL. You can also program completely your phone by typing the phone number also in which case the phone will be ready without the Over The Air programming. You definitely must have a data cable to load the QCN file via the KWC PST which will put the right PRL, SID and other Verizon Settings. If you are serious abpout getting a data cable go to this link:

download the KWC-PST, Verizon SE-47 package which contain the QCN file and some docs and you'll be ready in a minute. The package contain the Verizon's Slider flash file too which you can load without problems via the PST but that is not necessary for your phone (even though it is recommended). I hope your VM Slider is not going to be locked with any other SPC(MSL) than 000000. You can activate your new ESN with Verizon online, there is no charges for that. The OTA doesn't work if your ESN/phone number is not active.
