Hello all, I have recently purchased a CDM-8900 and was dissapointed that I could not have real songs on it. I hate the midi songs. Then I heard about the usb cable and ordered one from EBAY. I got it but still have no idea what to do. There are a lot of things I hope to change on my phone eventually but for now I would be absolutely thrilled if someone could tell me how to put actual clips from songs on my phone and use them as ringtones. Like I said, I am new to this and have no clue. I do not want to mess my phone up. Someone please help me and thank you all in advance.

BRAD

Well, I know I am gonna sound stupid but I have no idea even where to start. All I know is I would love to put actual songs on my phone instead of Midi crap and I have a USB data cable. I have no idea where to start or what the cable will allow me to do. I am extremely new to all of this. Thanks

The answer to your question is here on this site, you just have to read and search. Also here's a good site provided by one of the forum members: http://www.earthuser.com/8900/

On bitpim's website it says that bitpim is not compatable with the Audiovox 8900. Is this true? It says that the aodiovox is too fragile and there is too great of a chance to mess it up internally. I'm sorry for all the questions but i am at a loss here. Thank you

The BitPim developers do not support it's use with the 8900. However, many of us with this phone have been very successful using it while many others have fried their phones, some more than one phone. Use it at your own risk. Having insurance is a good idea and definitely back up your files first.

I need a super simple tutorial program. I cannot even get my usb cable to work. I tried going to futuredial and downloading a new driver install but the drivers for the 8900 are not on there. I think maybe i should have researched this more before i bought the cable and decided to do this. I will be putting insurance on the phone and hopefully it will cover it if i screw it up. There are so many cool things i want to do to this phone, i hope i can get it all to work. Thank you all for your help. I'm sure i will need more.

Posted by: bucfansince96

Which version of Bitpim do I need? Also, I cannot find the drivers for the 8900 anywhere. I can't even get the first step done. I feel like an idiot, please help. Thank you

Posted by: SnoopyII

for bitpim most prefer version 7 build 8. download the standard futuredial drivers. when installing it that is when you select LG VX6000 as your phone type.

Posted by: bucfansince96

OK let me get this straight, even tho I have an 8900 Audiovox phone, I am supposed to say I have an LG VX6000 and use those drivers? I'm sorry for all of the stupid questions but I am clueless. After I install the drivers then my computer will recognize my phone as a VX6000? Someday I will figure this out. Thanks

How many times are you going to ask the same question ,just reworded. If you read the first stickied thread " How to for Cricket 8900" your questions will be answered regardless of providers. Dont try it on your own without reading this and then come crying that you hard locked your phone, cause there wont be any sympathy. If you actually ask a pertinent question about a certain part of the process you will get it answered. Dont just ask how do I get started 5 times before reading and searching.

Posted by: bucfansince96

Well VOXBOX the reason I ask questions is because I am VERY new to this and am having NO luck even getting the drivers loaded. I realize that I am not as Tech smart as you are(I'm sure FEW on the planet are)but I am trying. I tried loading the future dial installer and saying I had an LG VX6000 but that did not work. I contacted futuredial and they sent me the drivers for the 8900. They said to unzip them and then connect the phone and point the wizard to where the files were unzipped, again no luck. I tried to use BITPIM and again no luck. I assume it was because I didn't have the drivers loaded right but really I have no clue what to do. It's too bad none of you are from Southern Illinois. I really could use some help. I learn better if I see someone do it. Sorry for all the problems and questions.

I meant VOX8900 but of course since you know everything then you allready knew that too.

Posted by: vox8900

I don't know everything yet.
But anyways since you had some cajones to bark back and explain your dilemma a little more clearly.
1st. What operating system are you using? 98,2K,XP?
2nd. Can you tell me what is in your device manager under the
Port (Com & LPT) section when your cable is plugged into your usb port only , not the phone too.

Posted by: bucfansince96

First Vox8900, let me apologize for the last post and say thank you for trying to help me now. I am using windows ME and it says Communications Port(com 1) Communications Port(com 2) and Printer Port LPT1. I am ata loss here and thank you again

Posted by: vox8900

OK, that means the drivers are not installed correctly .
Did you install the Future Dial drivers or the Curitel drivers previously. Let me know which ones you did so we can attempt to remove them from your system and registry first before a reinstall.

Posted by: bucfansince96

I think I tried to install both. None of the future dial stuf i downloaded included drivers for the 8900. I asked future dial about this and they sent me the right drivers but again, i do not know what to do with them. I hope a fresh start will make everything better. I apologize, i should have done more research before jumping in and trying to do something I wasn't sure about. Is it as easy as deleting the files or will it be hard to get them off my system? Thank you

can you tell me a free software or a easy way to remove all the drivers from the system and registry i have installed and del drivers and files prob 30 times in the last 2 weeks that i have tryed to get this ebay cable to work will be looking at the radio shack cable for lg vx6000

thanks for the help

Posted by: vox8900

Well guys If you installed the Curitel drivers you can uninstall them by going to the installed directory (ie. C:\Program Files\Curitel\Curitel Packet Crap\) then use the uninstall that came with those drivers.

The FutureDial drivers to not come with an uninstall feature. I am still waiting to hear from their tech support on some documenation for manual removal.

I have successfully removed the FuturDial drivers from my working system to not see my cable and then reinstalled them with it working just as good as before.

Remove cable from USB port first

To Remove FutureDial (Prolific) Drivers :
%WinDir$ = (C:\WINDOWS on Win9x/ME/XP/2003 & C:\WINNT on NT/2000)
1. Delete file Ser2Pl.sys from %WinDir%\inf and %WinDir%\system32\drivers

Open up Regedit. (Start-->Run-->Regedit) then
Highlight My Computer, select File then Export, type reg-backup and save to a folder you will remember and won't delete. This will back up your Registry keys that we will delete.

If you dont see the following keys in your registry dont worry about it we are just trying to clean it up as much as we can.

1. Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\
You should see some keys that reseble this "Vid_067b&Pid_2303" go into each one and look at the next key within it and you will be able to see some info about it on the right pane. One will say Prolific under the Mfg subkey. Delete the whole Vid key that all this is in.
2. Navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ and scroll down to Ser2Pl and delete it.

Reboot.

Download http://www.futuredial.com/support/d...20Installer.exe 4 megs
Unzip to a folder somewhere and run the Setup.exe, click next and accept the licensing agreement, Slect VX 6000(Verizon) in the dropdown box, click next and install, Voila your done.

Now plug in your USB cable only, no phone attached.
Youe OS should auto recognize the new device and load the drivers. Go to device manager and look in the Ports section and you should see the Prolific USB-to-serial Com Port (ComX). Remeber this ComX number for BitPim settings configuration.

This should work for you guys. I hope it does, If not let me know where u get stuck or any error messages you recieve.

Open up BitPim ( I use 07-test11)
Go to Edit-->Settings.
Make sure the phone dropdown box is LG-VX6000
Change the ComX number to whatever you saw in device manager.
Click OK

Remember you can only use the Filesystem tab with our phones.
Go to the tab and expand the +-/ . You may get the Traceball error, just X out of it and try to expland again and it will work.

After this,
Ffollow the stickied thread in the forum " How to for Cricket 8900" to seed your phone and then you can overwrite using the file system tab in BitPim.
DO NOT EVER DELETE FILES THROUH BITPIM, use the phone menus to delete. Only overwrite with BitPim.

Happy Hacking All.

Hey VOX, thank you for your help, I did everything like you said to(I think). It recognized the port but still showed an error on BITPIM. I also think I messed up my phone somehow because I went to the Verizon store today to get my phone software updated along with my wifes 8900. Hers worked right away but mine wouldn't so they gave me a new phone, when they tried to port my info from my old phone to my new phone, the port wouldn't work. The phone was only 8 days old so all i can figure is i messed it up somehow the last few days. They gave me a $25 credit for losing my old info. I gave the usb cable and stuff to a friend of mine who has the same phone. He is going to try to figure it out. He has windows XP on his puter and is a little better at this stuff than me. I hope he can figure it out. Would it make a difference if we had a radio shack cable or one from futuredial? Are they any better than the one I got on EBAY? Again thank you for your help. I hope to talk to you soon when he gets it going. I need music on my phone and for that dam*** Verizon wireless logo to go away!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you

Posted by: vox8900

So far a majority of the people who have issues are the ones using ebay cable. Just spend the extra 5-10 bucks and get the radioshack cable that is made for the VX6000. You will be good to go. By the way I am using XP and it is alot friendlier to USB items than 98,ME,or 2K, so the success rate for XP users will more than likely be higher, I assume.
