I would appreciate it sooo much if someone can give us(or just me) a quick/general step by step procedure to make this audiovox 8900 communicate with my pc using a usb data cable.

Ive searched through this forum and all I find are bits and pieces but Im not sure in what order they go...

For example...
Is it the curitel drivers before the futuredial drivers?
Do I need to install both futuredial drivers or just the 2nd one (Installer2).
Is it lgvx6000 or lgvx600 (like snoopy said)?
Where do I enter the "##PORT {END}" parameter.
When do I install the bitpim?
Where do I choose USB data?
help!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanx

i'm still pretty new too, but this is how i got it to work...go to www.futuredial.com, and download the data cable installer, once you install it, it'll prompt you to connect to your usb cable and phone. go to device manager, then click communication ports, check to see what com port the prolific serial/usb port is on. install bitpim, then open it up, go to settings, pick the VX6000 as your phone, then enter the correct COM port that was found in your device manager. From there, press ok, then click the "filesystem" tab, you should see all the files on your phone, REMEMBER: NEVER DELETE FILES FROM YOUR PHONE, only OVERWRITE...ask snoopy, he's also been very helpful to me

Thanks

Guys, are the Audiovox CDM-8900, Audiovox 8900 and the Hyundai TX-95c all the same phone?

Hello, Are we supposed to choose VX6000 even tho we use the Audiovox 8900. I think the drivers for the vx are on the cd that came with my data cable i got off of EBAY. I still do not know much about all this stuff.

Yes. choose VX6000 drivers
Here are those drivers
http://www.futuredial.com/support/d...20Installer.exe
Install these first, then follow lickwid instructions above.

OK guys, now I'm really confused.

There seems to be two main types of data cables for the TX-95c/9800:

1. The eBay cable:
this is the cheaper one with the box in the middle.

2. The Radioshack/LGŪ VX6000 cable
More expensive.

Now correct me if I am wrong, but you only need to install one set of drivers? The Curitel drivers for (1) Ebay or the future dial drivers if you are using a (2) Radioshack/LG ?

Curitel:

Future Dial:

Again, I may be way off - please correct me if I am wrong.

1) Your info is good Kanz.

2) If I posted LG VX600 it was a typo. It is LG VX6000.

3) The drivers that come on most discs with eBay cables are outdated or wrong. Download them directly from futuredial's site.

4) The box in the middle of the radio shack cable (I have it) is for anti-magnetic purposes and has nothing to do with serial/usb stuff. The Radio shack guy said if you open it all you will find inside is a magnet just like the ones you see on your computer monitor cable (if you have a good quality monitor cable)

************************************************** **

UPDATE!!!

another thread says the box is in fact an inline serial converter and Radio Shack sales peoples are not known for their tech ability so I would tend to believe those here in the forum over a radio shack employee. either way mine works great and I am happy.

Snoops?

I thought it was:

Radioshack = Futuredial drivers.
Ebay = Curitel drivers.

And you only need one set of drivers?

And the ebay have the box in the middle, not the Radio shack cables?

Gah, really confused now!

Posted by: SnoopyII

actually I got mine at radioshack and it has the box in the middle. suffice to say the forum consensus is that the straight cable with no box is preferable however I have had no problems with my "box" cable so far but I did get it at radioshack not eBay.

I don't know about using 2 sets of drivers. I use the futuredial driver exclusively.

My data cable is from Radio Shack and it has the inline box. The drivers I used were the futuredial ones. I've had no problems using BitPim or the Quick Link mobile software with this cable.
