Those with steel aftermarket antennas. . .

The websites claim that the retractable steel antennas boost reception. Is this true or just a selling gimmick? I like my 8900 but it gets (really) bad reception compared to my girlfriend's motorola T730.

Has anyone tested their steel antenna compared to their stock one to see if the signal strength changed in different areas? Would love some feedback, thanks!

Well I do not have the retractable steel one but I do have the stubby steel one and it has a VERY SLIGHT drop in reception power.

My 8900 gets really bad reception too. I tried one of the retractable steel antennas and noticed absolutely no difference in the reception. It didn't seem to hurt, but it didn't help either.

I can take my OEM headset off and it doesn't effect my reception at all. I actually use my phone with out the antenna (easier in and out of the pockety) and it I still have one bar in the areas I had one bar with the antenna.
