Or do like I did... if you get your phone activated at a reseller... ask the rep who does the initial programming. Sprint activations give it to the rep to program the handset initially.

I asked the Best Buy employee if she would give me the lock code, and even offered her a $5 bill if she would.. She didn't care about the money (but I still made sure she got it), and wrote it down for me!

Don't suppose I could get her name and store location? Boy, would I, a fellow BBY worker, love to get her ××× fired. Thats just stupid to give MSLs to people who don't need them. Sure I see them everytime I activate a phone. Have I ever given one out? Never. Will I? Never. It's designed NOT to go to average customers. Sheesh.

Now again, could I have her name and store location?

Hell no!

Stupid how? It's not your problem about phone subsidys. Plus, the customer paid their part for the handset. Any additional matters concerning phone ownership and commitments are between the customer and Sprint PCS.. not the reseller. If a customer owns any handset, they should be allowed to use it however they wish, including having the MSL.

The proper thing Sprint should do is allow the customer to know the MSL as soon as their contract is up (and fulfilling their commit - and Sprint receiving full "payback" for the subsidy), but since they dont do it.. I certainly dont feel bad about getting it upfront.

Let me briefly explain why it is very important. Sprint trusts third-party companies, such as Best Buy, with upholding their rules and standards when it comes to cellular equiptment and service. Deviation from those rules signifies an either (a) loss of communication, or (b) loss of trust. What makes that important would be, oh, for example, BBY employees, such as myself, being able to get the 3rd Party Employee plan. If Sprint can't trust their resellers, why help them to begin with.

It is crucial customers don't have their MSL, because some can bypass Sprint's subsidy by cutting off service within 14 days and keeping the phone.

if you're going to sell a phone with features only accessable through use of the msl code, and you don't want people getting a hold of said code because they can exploit said features, maybe it would just be smarter to not include those features in the software gui instead. but since sprint doesn't want to train their tech people beyond what can be seen on a screen so blatently they are worried grandma might figure it out as well....

don't bash this girl for only doing whats right? its HIS msl code for HIS service contract and is used for HIS phone. it belongs to him more than her, so why should she know it and not him.
