Venturi Compression Software

I had Venturi compression software installed previously and removed it. I am trying now to load it again, and have found that there are still fragments present in my registry, so the software will not load. I have tried every way possible, even trying to remove it manually, but cannot get all the files out of the registry and directory.

What is the best way to remove all these files so that I am able to load the software again?

Thanks for your help.

check your regestry for these 2 file names

'ventc.exe' and 'ventcfg' remove all entries

downlad 'startup control' or startup cop use either one to make sure windows is not trying to start something that is not there ,because that leaves a dynamic entry that prevents re-installing the software

in the future try to rememberto back up the regestry before doing thigs like this..

then you can always go back to the old regestry and re-install the software

Thanks for the info.

I removed ventcfg from my registry and the software will still not reinstall and I downloaded startup control and it did not reference venturi. In the registry, legacy_venturi2 apprears in 3 places and I cannot remove it. Am I doing something wrong or do you know what the problem could be?

Thanks again for your help.

I know that legacy refers to 'plug and play'

so windows is going to be touchy about removing or modifing that ( reg key)

you may have to unistall the whole thing

usb drivers ( which show as a seperate install on my machine )

and maybe even the mobile office

then goto systems and disable the com port for your cable

before windows will let you remove the 'legacy entry' from the registry

in win98 i belive the windows backup of the regestry is labeled 'system.1st'

if you boot to dos ( NOT a dos window ) you can delete system.da0 and or copy it to another place

then remove systemda0 and replace it with a copy of 1st renamed da0

and reboot with the backup reg in place

this a dicey situation and you can loose all types of settings if you have insatalled a lot of software

and best done only as a last resort

1. Before installing any item which will change your system settings (including virtually any new program), make sure you have made a back-up copy of the Windows system registry. The registery is what Windows uses to store your entire set of system configuration options. Windows will run very badly, or not at all, if the registery is damaged, so you can see why it's important to have a backup.

In Windows 98, creating a backup is easy: Copy two files, system.dat and user.dat, from your Windows directory to a disk for safe keeping, and if you develop some serious system problems, just copy them right back into your Windows directory. This should completely restore your system if the problem was a corruption of the registry.

In Windows XP, use the Backup Utility (and Microsoft has made this difficult, since the utility is not installed by default, and you may have to install it from your CD - check the System Tools menu to see if it's installed). See this Microsoft article for help.

In Windows 2000, to back up the whole registry, use the Backup utility located on the System Tools menu to create an Emergency Repair Disk (ERD), or back up the System State (which includes the registry, the COM+ Class Registration database, and your boot files). For help, read this Microsoft article

For both 2000 and XP, you might also try RDILLY.......... RDilly makes a backup copy of the NT,2K,XP registry. It's a little similar to System Restore found in WinME and WinXP. You get a point-in-time copy of the registry labeled with the date it was made.....(free).....GO THERE!, or you can use ERUNT.......... A program which also allows easy Registry Backup and Restore for Windows NT/2000/XP.....(free).....GO THERE!

because of my desire to get bitpim working, i found myself in the position of uninstalling the USB drivers ( windows 2000pro )

so first i uninstalled the drivers

then i uninstalled the VZW MO, Not the quick link mobile phone

I did not unimstall the fourelle software

but when i reinstalled the MO dialer I was offered a choice regarding the fourelle software

automatic removal

repair of previous install

custom removal

I choose repair

everything is still there and working

fourella or windows xp might not let you do a partial re-install because it is braned to work with verizon

but doing a mobile office reinstall just might give you the repair choice
and put things right

Thank you very much for your trouble to explain it...i will think about trying what you suggested....but do you know of any other free compression software that will work with the verizon dialer..?...thanks again

sorry no.

to my knowledge: for compression software to work it requires routing the data thru servors using that coding, when you have venturi turned on , it routes as much as posssible thru supporting networks.

the verizon expressnet is supporting that..and is your gateway into the intenet

verizon has licensed the use of it.

if you bought the MOK and you have the NA and MOU on your verizon account you have the use of the venturi it's paid for..

thank you once again for all your support and help...i guess i have no choice but to try and get rid of the legacy_venturi2 ..registry entries...i have win2000 ...i am not sure what to do with getting rid of it with that OS........

I think if uninstall the mobile office

then reinstall the mobile office it will automaticaly re-do venturi

when installing the second time

my choices were auto remove of venturi

Repair venturi files of previous install

custom remove of venturi

i chose repair and all is well

PS: yeah i know i slipped and refered to the 4500 as camea. no camera ..just a good phone

Probably you need to clean up your Winsock. Try WinsockFix
