Deleting .mid files with BITPIM

Somehow I have a few left over .mid files under the user/sound/ringer folder that are not associated with any real ring on the phone. Therefore I cannot delete the files through the phone by itself and the files are taking up space. Can I safely delete misc .mid files in that folder with BITPIM?
Any help is appreciated

Why don't you just delete them from the phone and play it safe? Use VoxIndex to create a new index file, and you'll be able to delete from the phone.

No the .mid files are not showing up on the phone under downloads. I'ts like if the .mid file doesnt correspond with the download_snd.txt file then they won't show up and give you the option to delete. The only way I know these files are still there is because they show up in BITPIM.
Help!

Like was said you could edit the index file and then delete them from the phone but i am pretty sure you can jsut delete them with bitpim with out doing any harm.

"Like was said you could edit the index file and then delete them from the phone but i am pretty sure you can jsut delete them with bitpim with out doing any harm."
Please elaborate. I do not know how to use the index file and delete them from the phone. What is the index file? Like I said, under downloads and under ringtones on the phone THEY DO NOT SHOW UP. I can only see them when I open the ringers folder in BITPIM, only then can I see the files. They are not appearing on the phone.
"Use VoxIndex to create a new index file, and you'll be able to delete from the phone."
How do I do this? I know nothing about VoxIndex
Please help

It seems there has been some kind of miscommunication.
I was trying to follow the tek in the 8900 poll. The instructions say to backup the download_snd.txt file, use the ringtone tool, overwrite the txt file, and add in the mid file to the ringers folder. I backed up the txt file, used the ringtone tool, overwrote the txt file, and then added the mid. I wanted to do another one without turning off my phone. (found out later that this was stupid) So I used the ringtone tool with the next mid, overwrote the txt file AGAIN, and put in the other mid.
Now there are mid files showing in BITPIM that DO NOT SHOW UP ON MY PHONE. Is it safe to delete these files in BITPIM? And if not, how do I "Use VoxIndex to create a new index file, and you'll be able to delete from the phone." Nobody has yet to explain this????????
Thanks in advance.

I'm goignt o assuem the ringtone tool and the Vox editor are the same or a similar program its only used to edit the text file.
but it shoudl be same jsut to use bitpima nd get rind of the extras
