GX32 on Rogers AT&T Network

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: saisailup

Just wondering if anybody's using the GX32 on the Rogers AT&T (Toronto) network and if they're having similar problems.

1) Can send out SMS and receive SMS only when the phone is turned on. If the phone is turned OFF and someone sends me a SMS, when I turn my phone back on those msgs are lost (causing missed msgs).

2) Voicemail indicator doesn't work (even the back-up SMS that Rogers sends out to me can't get through).

It's a gorgeous phone and all, but these flaws bug me and I really don't want to get rid of it just yet so just want to know if anyone knows how to fix this - the Rogers network people have no clue, I've talked to 3 of them already. Thanks!

Can u get the MMS to work for your GX32?

Posted by: m7792

YES, I have the same problem as you
I cannot receive if phone is turned off
I'm on Rogers AT&T in Vancouver
I just tried it, doesn't work
dunno why

This may be due to the SMS setting of "message life time", since the longer life time, the longer the message will store on the server...

how's the GX-32's reception on the 850 band?

Posted by: saisailup

SMS - So I guess my phone isn't broken as others seem to have the same prob. I'm not much of a techie but I think it has to do with the fact that the phone and the Rogers network server aren't 100% compatible - it can call out but other functions like SMS or voicemail indicator aren't compatible. I've never experienced any probs with my other phones that I bought in Hong Kong, so this is a first and it's a bit frustrating, considering the phone costs an arm and a leg. My SMS message lifetime was set by default to "maximum", but I changed it to 40 days to see if that makes a difference.

MMS - Haven't tried it out yet, but I was looking at the FAQs on the Rogers website and it says that only phones from Rogers can send MMS at the moment and all other phones are not supported. They may have changed that though (as I can't see logically why only Rogers phones can send if you put in the same settings).

Reception - I find that overall the GX32 has pretty decent reception on Rogers, can't complain there. It's definitely a great phone, minus the above glitches.

are you able to switch between bands on the gx-32? what's better 950 or 1900?

Posted by: Synncere

I am not able to manually switch between the 850 and 1900 but I know I am using the 850 band in many areas as the rf is much stronger and I can talk in areas where none of my tri band fones work or can barely hold onto a signal.

I have mms working for me on my GX32. It worked when mms was launched then didn't work as right now mms will only technically work w/ a Rogers Wireless handset. I also have a Motorola V600 so I had that IMEI put onto my acct then sent a mms from that fone. Shortly after that I put my sim into the GX32 and sweet success. I can send and recieve mms.

Hello M7792... You said that Rogers is your carrier and you are in Vancouver... I have a GX32 and I am in Nanaimo with Rogers also as my carrier, but I can't get my MMS working and Rogers can't get it working either... They have given me settings, I have talked to 4 different techies there and still no go... I was wondering if your settings are different or if you know how I could get it to work??? I love my phone!!! Could you give me your settings or help me out some how??? Thanks for any help from anybody that can... Geo

Posted by: Synncere

Here are the MMS settings for Rogers Wireless.

MMS Settings:
APN: media.com
Username: media
Password: mda01
Gateway IP: 172.25.0.107
Message Server: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com

using mms was possible with the majority of fones that weren't from Rogers before mms was officially launched. Then it stopped. Rogers is still provisioning other fones but right now it is technically supported for Rogers Wireless devices that are mms enabled.

What imei does Rogers have for you? If you have a Rogers mms enabled device call cs and have them put that imei on your acct then send a mms from that fone then put your sim into your GX32 and it will work. It has worked for me and for others I know who also have the GX32. I no longer get the send fail message.

When I recieve mms from others I no longer get a text message with a link and have to use wap to log onto the website to see the photo, I now get the picture displayed on the screen.

Posted by: m7792

sorry geo, i dunno anything about mms
I tried to get a techie at Rogers at the mall i work at to setup my phone for me but he said I'd have to phone in to tech support for the settings

Posted by: geoada

Hello... Thanks... I will try it tomorrow when I get a break from work... I sure hope it works cuz this is driving looney... Thanks again... Geo

Posted by: geoada

Hello Syn... You mentioned a way to get MMs working on my GX32... I phoned Rogers and got a data tech guy on the line, but he was not very friendly and did not want to help me out much, but did say why don't I buy a Rogers phone... I mentioned the "IMEI" to him and gave my EMEI # to him and he told me it wasn't supported by Rogers, then he gave me the EMEI he had for non-supported Rogers phones which was 15 1's (111111111111111)... But he would not help me out any further... I was not too happy with his help (must have been burnt out or somthing), but everyone else I talked to have been great, my luck I guess...
I was wondering if you could explain some things you mentioned in your last post:
1) Rogers enabled device? (meaning my GX32)
2) What imei on my account? (the emei # on back of my phone)
3) Send an MMS from that phone then put your sim into your
GX32 and it will work. (from what phone--mine?)

It would be awesome if you could give me a hand figuring this out. Any help would be appreciated... Thanx
... Geo

Before mms was officially supported by Rogers Wireless it would work on the majority of fones that had mms capability. Shortly after it was officially launched mms only worked with Rogers handsets and non Rogers fones were slowly being provisioned.

The GX32 is a non Rogers handset therefore even if you have your account provisioned with the proper socs by Rogers (so you can use send/recieve pictures) when you go to use it will not work if you have the generic imei for non Rogers gsm fones (all 1's)

You will need to either use a Rogers handset or have the imei of a Rogers mms capable handset on your acct. I have a Rogers V600 so what I did was have that imei put onto my account and sent an mms from the v600. It was successful and didn't get the sending failure that I had on the GX32. I then took the sim out of my V600 and put it into my GX32 and tried to send an mms to a friend of mine with a Rogers fone. I called him to see if he recieved it and he did. I asked him to send me one and I recieved it.

The settings I used on the GX32 are as follows:

MMS Settings:
APN: media.com
Username: media
Password: mda01
Gateway IP: 172.25.0.107
Message Server: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com

This process has worked for me and others I know. It should work for you aswell. Good luck.

I have the same problem, and it's really bothering me.

I was flipping through the menus today and under the SMS settings, there's a "message center" section with what looks like a phone number - 17057969300. Does this number have anything to do with us not able to retreive the short messages after our phone is turned on?

Thanks

No.

Is your message lifetime option set to maximum? if not set it to that and your sms should be fine. If I get sms when my fone is turned off shorty after I power it on I get the alert.

Posted by: neomonk

Yeah, mt message lifetime is already at maximum. Still the same problem tho, just tested. Any other ideas?

Posted by: Synncere

That's odd... I have never had that issue with my GX20 or GX32

Posted by: neomonk

Can you check your message center number? And see if it's the same as mine.

Posted by: kareshi

I have a non-Rogers GD88 (from HK) and MMS works just perfectly fine to me. The "must-be-Rogers" phone theory isn't so right.

The GD88 is carried by Rogers though that's why it will work. Same goes for the Moto Vseries if you have an unlocked V300 or 600 it will work same with a few SE fones.

I can say this in confidence as I do work for Rogers and have heard this directly from Tech dept and many others in the Rogers forum will also tell you this as it is a well known fact.

Posted by: kareshi

But if my IMEI is not in their DB and it works, and I assume the MMS is a standard, why wouldn't the GX32 work?

I wish I can have a phone to test since my account is setup correctly.

Becuase the GD88 is mms capable and Rogers does carry it... so aslong as you have mms provisioned on your account it will work.
It was great before mms was officially launched that the majority of fones would work as long as you had the correct settings. I was sending mms like crazy with my GX32! Then shortly after it was officially launched all I got was the sending failure message. I tweeked my settings over and over and yet same issue. It's kinda weird I know but I did what my buddy in tech support suggested and now I can send/recieve mms with no issues at all. Rogers is continuing to provision in other fones... so there's some good news. I know it can be frustrating having an mms capable fone and not being able so use it... trust me I have been there Now I can't wait for cross carrier mms to be launched so I can send picture messages to my friends mobiles on other networks instead of sending to their email all the time.

Posted by: Meniac

Ok, change of subject... does anyone have problems receiving the voicemail notification with the GX-32 on Rogers? I used to receive the notification on my motorola phones but for some strange reason on the GX32 i'm getting them as SMS messages. Any ideas?

Thanx for the reply Synncere:::
Everytime I try to set the IP Address to: 172.25.0.107 and push ok, it switches to: 172.025.000.107!!! Do you think that this could have something to do with part of my problem of not being able to send & receive MMS??? Also thanks for the detail of how to get the MMS working, but I do not have another rogers phone to do the EMEI process as my GX32 cost me an arm and a leg... I sure wished there was another way because who knows how long it will be before Rogers will configure the GX32 onto their system... I wished I had another Rogers phone so I could do the EMEI switch... Do you have any ideas??? It does seem strange about the IP Addressproblem though... Don't you think Synncere??? Thanks for all your help... You really are a great moderator!!! Take care... Geo

If you do not have a Rogers Wireless mms enabled handset what you can do is maybe use a friends or family members imei if they let you. Then have that imei put onto your acct, put your sim card into that fone and send a mms. If successfully sent then remove your sim card and put into your gx32 and it should work for you.

Good luck.

It's been more than a month and I still have not found a solution to the sms problem. I've tried changing the message lifetime setting back & forth from maximum to something else and back, I have the same message centre number as Synncere, and nothing seems to work. Again, none of my other non-Rogers phones have had this problem, so I don't know what it is.

So anyway, all I can do is tell people not to send me sms, feels like I've just gone back to the dinosaur age when sms did not exist. And I downgraded my enhanced voicemail to basic voicemail since that doesn't work either, saves me a couple of bucks each month I guess. Hope someone figures out what the problem is....

Posted by: Synncere

I am still unsure as to why that's happening. I never have that issue with any of my fones including the GX32. Within seconds of powering on my Sharpy I will get the sms messages that were sent to my fone while it was off.

Posted by: daemonic

i'm sorry if this has been asked already but...

regarding the imei #.. if i use a friends # on my account, will it have any affect on him using the same # on his account as well? i finally found someone that will let me try this trick with his phone and the last thing i want to do is mess up his account or phone operation

It shouldn't ruin anything at all on your friends account. Just make sure that if it's not added already ask the CS rep to add the picture messaging soc to your acct. Put your sim card into your friends fone and send a mms. If it goes through successfully then take your sim and put it into your GX32 you should be able to successfully send/recieve mms.

This sms not received when phone off seems to be a GX32 problem (I'm also experiencing it in toronto)... which is odd and I really can't figure it out. Do have MMS working though ^_^

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and I just bought this lovely fone from HK about 10 days ago. After I read this forum, I noticed that SMS & Vmail alerts are not coming in when the phone is off.

I tried something what synn mentioned, to register the IMEI with another Rogers capable phone and tried to receive sms & vmail alerts in that phone, I also check the sms phone number and set the message lifetime to maximum, but still couldn't get it to work.

Does anyone figure out what the problem is ? or what settings of the phone should be? What should be the correct Network Settings (in phone settings)?

Thanks for everyone help!

Is it possible to send yourself a SMS to "flush" the SMS to your phone?

Posted by: soliddog

i'm just wondering what's the setting for GPRS on rogers?

Posted by: kaizoku_san

GPRS settings:

IP Adress = 208.200.067.150
Homepage = http://mymobilehomepage.rogers.com
Port = 9201
APN = goam.com
Username = wapuser1
Password = (I have no clue, it's *** on mine, so it's 3 characters. If I remember correctly, it may be just "wap")

Hope this helped, this was off my GX32.

A bit off topic as well, but I have a Sharp GX20 that I bought from Vodafone in Ireland and am now using on Rogers in Saskatchewan.

All functions of the phone seem to work as expected, except the major one: it doesn't ring/vibrate or notify me in anyway upon receiving an incoming call. It will show up in the call log as a missed call, however.

It does ring/vibrate when I receive an SMS. I haven't tested the MMS, but assume I may have to do what Synncere suggests previously.

The person calling is either disconnected immediately, or receives a busy signal.

Anyone have any ideas?

Synncere, I noticed you mentioned that you have this phone. Is there something I may be missing, or any insight you might share?

I have been through the settings on the phone itself hundreds of times, master reset, etc, to no avail. I have talked to a few people at Rogers with little result. I am fairly confident the trouble is with the network and the phone itself. My IMEI was entered as all 1's, and I have wondered if this may be the issue....

Posted by: f355dream

I tried everything and every settings, still didn't work... a bit frustrating now...

Posted by: cellphonejunky

ive used my gx 32 on rogers now for bout a year...and everything is functioning correctly.

I had wap, mms, and sms, enabled on my account.

then I went into to the rogers picture portal site to set up an account where I can view sent and received pictures and videos...

Like I said it has worked for a while now no problems.

The only thing that is a draw back is that the model that I got had browzer 1.2.1 in it...so I can't browze with full capabilities like browzer 2.0.....

don't have access to ringtones and games upload..on my phone but I can get those from wap sites.

Otherwise if HAD sick reception with this phone.....

Anyone who wants to get a great video, cam phone.....

this is the one.

anyone want my settings...just message me...I'll send it to you via email.
