Motorola V70 Review!!

Yay!! i finally recieved the package from Fedex on 8/9/02
When i first open up the fedex box and pulled out the V70 box..i notice that Motorola still packages their phones in such a cheapy way...it makes me sick how they just put everything in this crappy egg-carton like holder... back to the phone..my first impression was.. the Glacier blue V70 is much smaller in person than in pictures...really light weight also... since this phone is cingular locked..i will have to get the phone unlocked so i can use my VS sim to test out the reception, sound quality, ear piece volume..etc... but here are my likes and dislikes on the phone

Likes-
- Really small
- light..with and without battery
- phone is made out of metal ( even though the front of the phone feels like plastic..everyone said its metal..the battery cover is metal btw )
- It swings open!! i cant stop swinging open my V70!! but it might get boring when you have the phone for a few more days..who knows..
- the keypad portion is made out of this soft clear rubber..really nice
- not really flimsy like i thought it was going to be

Dislikes -
- battery cover HARD TO OPEN!!

- OEM antenna doesnt match the phone ( glacier blue V70 )
- OEM bezel SUX...its chrome..shows fingerprints, already a few scratches on it..( if you know how i take care of my phones...there is no way it can scratch that easily..all the previous phones i've owned doesnt even have a single scratch on them besides the 8290 )
- Bezel is like..impossible to remove..i still cant get it to come off..and im scared of breaking my phone.. Bad Motorola Bad !!
- screen is small..most ppl will hate it..but im fine with it..
- the blue keypad lights and inverted screen letters are in an aqua blue...teal-ish color..not like BLUE in pictures you see on the web
- battery cover tab designs are bad...im sure motorola can do better

- the phone is metal..but like..silver painted i believe..should of made the phone brush steel like the V60..it will make the V70 looks million times better

Overall, even though i have alot of dislikes about the V70..most of them are not a big deal...but i think the V70 could of been MUCH better..i mean..it is Motorolas Top of the Line phone...improving the V70 by like..using metal bezel, better design on battery cover tabs...matching color antenna, brushed steel look like V60...etc...just the tiny things about the V70 that make it less enjoyable...ok, the small problems aside..this phone is really nice..the longer you have it..the more you will like it...and swinging open the phone is just too cool...

i will have the 2nd part of the review written up by next week when i get the phone unlocked..aiya..i typed alot..must go to sleep now..

whats the use of the phone being made of metal when it feels like plastic?

how is the flimsiness and secureness of the swing on the v70?

like when u spin it around to open and close does it lock in place?

whats wrong with it feeling like plastic but made out of metaL??

the swing is not flimsy at all...mine swings very smooth and secures in place...not wobbly or anything

yes it does lock in place when opened and closed...

saves weight..but still tougher than plastic...and easier to swing open by using this metal so its still strong and durable..

One thing for sure..... the back plate and the batt. cover is metal, the flip/swing cover/earpiece (whatever u like to call that) is plastic with silver paint.

i dont know..i've asked numerous ppl on the Motorola forum and they all said it is metal..i hope it is metal

I'm pretty sure it would have to be plastic.Plastic would provide easy swivel action that metal would not

**Part 2 of the review**

After 19 ^%#^#$ days of waiting..i got my code...ok...i got the phone to work now!!

I made a call with it and the sound was the same with the V60g...and i had a flashing antenna on my v70 so that probably decreased some reception there... : P

the menu is pretty easy to use..just like the V60g and V66 SE that I've had...but scrolling up was quite difficult cuz the key was too close to the bezel...also...my phone doesnt have clock feature.. : ( no big deal to me though...

Likes-
- Great reception even with flashing antenna!!
- Sound quality and volume was the same with V60g
- Menu is easy to use if you are fimilar with Motorolas
( hehe. anyone notice it spelled G.S.M. from the 3 letters of the 1st word of each sentence? )

Dislikes -

scroll button is annoying.
