Can I Delete?

Was browsing around with BitPim on my 8900 when I came across the MMS -> OM folder. Inside was a listing of all the midis and pics I had sent through e-mail/SMS to the phone. However, about half of the ones listed in the folder I had manually deleted using the phone itself, not BitPim. For some reason though, they still are listed under BitPim with their appropriate file sizes. There are even some duplicates listed there; I deleted all the ringers/pix off my phone prior to bringin the phone in to Verizon for the 3_5.189 software upgrade, then sent a few midi's back to the phone using vzwpix.com and they are a duplicate listing now with identical file sizes.
So my question is this....is it safe to use BitPim and delete these files/duplicates that I know dont exist (or at least not under the Media Gallery) on the phone? That would suck if the phone's filesytem fails to actually remove the tones/pix and just takes the reference to them out of the Media Gallery...

Bump
.....hopin I can just go ahead and delete these duplicates, but scared to mess up the 8900's shaky filesystem

Could I maybe get this stickied?
I've read different ringtone tutorials, one where Pix msgs were solely used without the need for a data cable...one where pix msgs were used to send media to the phone with the "Seed" files being overwritten in the SMS -> OM directory....and another modifying the download_snd.txt and creating new files in the user -> sound -> ringer folder....
Since I have the $7.99 Pix/Txt package, I originally used the Pix Message method. Instead of overwriting the "seed" files, I just sent pix msgs containing several midis. This worked fine, and all the media could be assigned to create new pix msgs and send tones to other camera phones (Envelope Icon with an arrow next to each tone). It seems that when you browse to the Media Gallery with the phone and choose the Erase or Erase All option, all the phone does is remove the visual reference to these files in the GUI. Browsing the SMS->OM folder with BitPim reveals that the ringers (and pics) are still there in the file system...file sizes and all.
The download_snd.txt method works well for getting ringtones on the phone too, just with different results. The tones are manually uploaded to the phone via BitPim to the User->Sound->Ringer folder. They appear in the phones Media Gallery, but can't be assigned (Envelope Icon with an X) to send to other users. When deleting these tones through the phones GUI, the tones are actually removed from the phone, and the download_snd.txt gets updated to reflect the changes.
Seems as if users who use the $7.99 for 80 Pix/500 TXT plan and choose not to invest in the data cable could run into some memory issues. If the phone does not actually erase the SMS tones/Pix, then eventually the phone will run out of space for new tones. Has anyone tried manually deleting files from the SMS-> OM folder, and if so....does it have a txt index file similar to the download_snd.txt? I'm debating whether to guinea pig my phone and try it, but scared to fry a brand new phone (Only got it June 27th).

Decided to guinea pig my phone and go ahead and delete the files from the MMS -> OM folder with BitPim....everything seemed to work out ok...havent had any restarts or hang ups so it looks like I'm in the clear...
After deleting the duplicate files I also noticed that within Brewsky 8900....I now have a bit more free space on the phone

im also having problems with phantom files that i previously deleted from my phone.. i deleted some mp3 files that i was testing the brewskey program... for some reason brewskey keeps on removing some of the ringtones and i have to upload them again... but it seems that the old files have not really been deleted and taking to much space... my files are under user and ringtone.. and not under mms .. do you think ill be able to delete without messin up my phone?
