Swap of phone numbers

I've had a Nokia 3586i with Bell since May 2nd. Today, I added a second phone (Nokia 6585) to my account. Both phones will be sharing the same plan (for an extra $25). I get a $150 mail-in rebate for the new phone. I asked the salesperson to swap the phone numbers between these two phones so that I can use the 6585 (with the number I've had since May 2nd) and my wife the 3586i (with the number obtained today).

The salesperson said this couldn't be done today and would have to wait at least one week. He said the billing system cannot process so many changes (activation, phone number change, etc) all the same day (!?). He even asked another another employee who was of the same opinion. This sounds like complete BS to me. Although I'm thinking this may be due to the ongoing problems with the new billing system.

Also, he said I'll be charged $15 X 2 for reprogramming both phones, not $15 total . I'm not sure that's correct.

Informed opinions, anyone?

i dont work for Bell , Rogers used to charge $25 for programming one phone. (now obselete with GSM). BOTH phone have to be reprogrammed, so $15 each sounds right... but then like i said, i dont work for Bell..

It can be done, I did it when I activated a A600 and swapped it 10 minutes later with another number from my 3586i. The dealer didn't charge me anything because I activated a new line with them.

Actually, doing an esn swap (that's what this is, because you want the new phone to replace the original one) wouldn't have been that hard. But, the $15x2 charge is valid.

It is only valid if the dealer wants to charge. If you activated a new line with them they usually will do it without charge. (from my last experience)
