i'm thinking about removing my faceplate too put on a different one, but i'm curious, what's underneath the original? a bunch of wires and circuit chips, or what? i'm just curious as to how hard this is gonna be.
thanks

I replaced my faceplate on my 8900. Not too hard, but get SMALL screwdrivers first! Both Phillips and flat... The Phillips to unscrew the 4 small screws holding the faceplate on, and the flat to pry it off.

i'm still curious as to what is underneath the original faceplate though. is it a bunch of loose stuff?

no it is mostly a circuit board. DO NOT REPEAT DO NOT use a screwdriver to pry your faceplate loose unless you plan on throwing out your old one. you run the risk of dinging either your phone chassis, faceplate or both. use your fingernail. take your time. slide it around the crack between the 2 pieces until it breaks loose. GENTLY remove and replace.

after taking the plate off, do you take any kind of risk with any of the phone parts falling out? like it looks like there is a battery in your photo (btw, thanks snoop for that pic). maybe i should just stop being paraniod. but it's 219$... i dunno. but thanks!

Naw the battery & the little speaker are held in place. You are right to be extra safe as opposed to extra sorry later. My CricKet rep told me that if I hacked the software that didn't void my warranty but if I used any kind of a tool (like changing a faceplate that did void my warranty)

This should probably go in the faceplate thread but I would have to dig that up from page 3/4.
Does anyone know if aftermarket faceplates vary from place to place. ie. there are many ebay sellers, then shops such as day deal. Can I expect to find a blue transparent faceplate from day deal to be exactly the same from say any ebay seller?
Cheers

Naw most of the faceplates the eBay people and the "website stores" sell are about the same quality. Read the faceplate thread...a few people say the chrome faceplates hold up better than the printed picture ones and that the transparent ones are thinner. I use a clear case cover to avoid scratching and for added protection in case I accidentally drop my phone (knock on wood) so the transparent ones being slightly thineer doesn't really matter to me. Also be aware I lightened the picture to show the detail of what's under the faceplate.

nifty. i'm excited. one of the coolest face plate sites is Sun Champ Corp. They've got a lot of plates for the 8900 and after 10$, shipping is free. Very very cool. Thanks again.
