Brewsky 8900 - Easy to use ring tone/wallpaper manager for Audiovox 8900

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: bonch

I decided to start a new thread so that I can track bugs easier.

Download: Brewsky 8900 v1.01 beta

Ring tones, Get Camera Pics, and Wallpapers are working!

Put your ringtones in: C:\Program Files\Brewsky 8900\RingTones\
Put your wallpapers in: C:\Program Files\Brewsky 8900\Wallpapers\

Also, I have added menu tools to easily patch the Verizon Wireless ERI Banner.

This was developed for a Verizon Wireless 8900, but I have added support hopefully for the others, including cellular south, telus and cricket. testing of those phones will be needed. please do so at your own risk.

BECAUSE OF YOU!!!!!!!!

My phone finally has ringtones.

Thank you so much.... If there's any way I can repay you.. name it.

Posted by: intrntnllvr

Bonch - Tried your program with a cable I bought off ebay, which uses the Curitel drivers, and I couldn't get it to work. When I connect to the default COM3, I just get a "port open.." message. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help! Do you take paypal donations?

Posted by: flippinthephone

I did that too, and it didn't work.

Then I tried Com5, also, if you are going into Bitpim, disconnect from Brewsky before you do.

Posted by: Goodfellaz

Awesome work man....this program is great already and it's only a beta

Posted by: DrOoPeE

Great program....really nice, however what I have found is that as soon as I uploaded a new ringtone, it now doesn't find the files that I put on through BitPim to use as ringtones (not a big deal as I just used your program to upload them again ) The files do still show in the file browser in BitPim....wierd...Also how do I get to the walpapers that I uploaded? They don't show in the media gallery at all..not under wallpapers or under pictures. Your program said something about verizon customers go to get it now to see them, and I was wondering if you could give a little more information as to where to get them. Other than that great program...and for those that are experiancing the open port problem, I have found that if you connect to your phone through BitPim first, and then close it out and open Brewsky you should be able to connect on the com port that the curitel driver is set to.

Posted by: JDMONTY77

bonch, I was creating a png 128x145 and loading it the old way with bitpim and my phone was saying that it was an invalid file and asks me if I want to delete it. Other wallpapers I got from this website work though. I thought maybe my file size was too big, but I tried putting the pic on my phone using your brewsky and noticed that the lizard file is larger than the one I am trying to install. Do you have any ideas what I may be doing wrong? I am using adobe photoshop to convert to png. I am keeping the sizes 128x145 or smaller and nothing seems to make it work.

Posted by: shirell26

I am very new to this and I have everything setup to make computer, I have a data cable witha curitel driver and the brewsky sw but I am unable to get it to work, my service is through Cellular South and I am not sure what i need to do in order to get the sw to work for me, can you please help me!!!!

Posted by: mpierre

After the upload of your test ring, I get the error :

Please wait, user data is being restore....[7]

when I try to view the ringtones, and then the phone reboots.

Posted by: six50

will this work for the metropcs version of the phone aswell?

Posted by: 1337Vox8410

I have a audiovox 8410 and a 8900 data cable...I wonder if it will work?

Posted by: 1337Vox8410

It seems to commect to the phone it only states "Port Open" When i try to load a ring tone it take forever and a day...

Posted by: jdubvdub

1337,
i got it to recognize my phone twice last night, but only by chance. When it did, it very quickly listed the wallpapers i have on the phone in the right hand window part of the program.

When i downloaded the buddyholly ringtone and tried to load it, i got the dreaded flipping hourglass again.

One thing i've notice about our 8410's... we have a download-snd.txt file instead of a download_snd.txt. When i looked at the file directory through bitpim again i noticed that after using brewsky, both files were in there. wonder which one its is trying to read or if we need to overwrite the dash snd with the info in the underscore snd file.

Still asking santa for ringtones for christmas

Thanks

Posted by: 1337Vox8410

d00d I don't know,

Will your phone disable the END button when it is on the data cable?
Mine does, and I can't figure out why...

ok, it looks like i have just added an extra "00" for each file's index. i have not tested to see if there are different indexs for .mid and for .mp3 on the telus, but for now, you could try deleting the first "00" from "tone" under the "[telus]" section, in "data.ini"... this file is located: "c:\program files\brewksy 8900\data\data.ini"

after one of those "00" is deleted, it appears as though the output from brewsky is the same as makeindex, at least for mp3 files.

thanks for finding those differences!

if it works with BitPim then it should work with Brewsky.. just make sure that BitPim is not open when you are trying to use Brewsky. 2 programs can not use the same port at the same time, and right now there's no error message that is displayed if the port is already being used. I will update this asap.

also, sure I accept paypal donations

you can make them to: chip@dietk.com

i dont think it will work. it was designed for the 8900 and I have not looked at any of the index's for the 8410, and i dont know of any of the paths for that phone either. if you provide me with a real "download_snd.txt" and inform me of any differences between the 8410 and 8900, then it might be possible that i could get it working in the future..

Posted by: stevofc

i justy tried the program. i uploaded the sample wallpaper you had included with the program and i can't find it anywhere on my phone at all. i used bitpim also to try and find it and i can't at all, but i know it's taking up space.

Posted by: 1337Vox8410

where will the download_snd.txt be at?

Posted by: 1337Vox8410

ok i found the "download-snd.txt" it was blank,
I also have "animated-ring.txt", "download-img.txt", "ems-effect.txt","info.txt"
Those files were found by BitPim under "db"

The tree looks like this
http://publish.hometown.aol.com/frg...?mtbrand=AOL_US

Posted by: jdubvdub

When looking at the 8410, note the download-snd.txt instead of download_snd.txt
Also, yes the END button is disabled when connected to the data cable. Not sure why, but its ok

It works ! ( at least for mp3 files )

I managed to upload 4 mp3 files at once and even to retrieve my images !

You rock !

( ps : did you get my e-mail sent to your paypal e-mail address ? )

I have seen that the VX6000 cable from Radio Shack is recommended. Is this the correct one for my 8900?
Thanks, Richard

Posted by: schwarz2

looking excellent bonch! in your next version could you allow for multiple pictures to be downloaded at once (allow for selecting multiple holding control or shift)? That's what used to bug me about bitpim.

Thanks

Posted by: enigma-2

I just received my CDM8900 last night and by shear luck found these forums today. Please forgive this newbie if this has been discussed in a different thread; I looked through several and didn't see my question asked or answered.

At this point, I haven't purchased a data cable yet, believe I'll probably go for OEM as I'm a little fastidious using make-do equipment (afraid I'll void the warranty. Am I being foolish?)

Anyway, first let me thank you for your extraordinary accomplishment. And now, my questions is, will we be able to save-to-disk copies of our downloaded games? Will we be able to re-load them? How about copies of games other d/l and we traded for..........? <ahem>

Thanks,
Dennis

Nope, no way for games on the VZW CDM 8900 except thru GET IT NOW.

Bonch, this is awesome, works great. Thank you so much!!!!

I used to have the same problem and it bugged me for a long time...but the problem is probably the adobe photoshop conversion of the dpi/resolution and probably more. I would try and change the resolution but it would not let me view the files from my digital camera...other files would work though...So I tried using infranview to convert the file and it worked perfectly...I could even up the dpi to like 200. The quality of my pictures after raising the dpi was great..the pictures look incredibly clear from my 128X145 phone...especially the ones from my extra clear digital camera.

i dont get it...i tried using it and the samples work great...but on the ringtones the only 1 i can get to work is the sample i spent hours trying to figure this out and all i can get is the file uploaded but it doesnt play (i tried renaming to *.mid as well) any1 have any ideas..

ps: i can upload the files using bitpim and they play...but when i use this program it shows up but doesnt play

Wow, what an accomplishment!! Congratulations!

Unfortunately, I have been unable to take advantage of this wonderful software. I also had problems with Bitpim, which may be why I am unable to connect with Brewsky. I was hoping you could help me out.

First, the cable is from ebay and I'm able to connect an upload my phonebook with the Curitel PC-Sync software. But I'm not able to connect with Bitpim. I was able to once, and was never able to again. When I try to connect with Brewsky, it says the port is open...but when I click on any of the options (upload camera pictures, upload ringtones, etc)...the window pops up that it's uploading, but NOTHING ever happens. The progress bar never progresses!

Does anyone know what to do?? Is it the Ebay cable? Or something internally wrong with my phone?

Brewsky will do everything I could I ever want to do with my phone, and I can't even use it! Any suggestions??

Thanks!!

Well first of all I want to say Bresky is a wonderful idea and a great tool. It worked great for me last night and I was able to download several ringtones and wallpapers with no seed files to start with.

Today I am having problems though. I opened Bresky and it does not show any of my files even though they are there. I even deleted Bresky and tried to download it again. Still no success. Does anybody have any ideas or is this just a free trial thing that expires? I didnt think it was, but maybe I am incorrect. If it is, how do I pay for a full version. It is definitely worth the money.

bonch, i love you. im sure you have made zaediex (king of 8900 hacking in the telus forums) proud.

before i mother your children, i suspect there is an error with downloading pictures that are > 49kb.. you may want to look into this.

tryed the software with 8900 on Cellular One "Western Wireless Corporation" set to verizon and proper com port "i have to set every time" downloaded all pics no problem uploaded 5 mp3 ringtones at once no problem it works great for me no bugs that i have found.
Thanks

Posted by: JDMONTY77

ohh yeah, I am on Cellular one AKA Western Wireless also. I have been using the Bresky with no problems under the verizon section, CID ringtone tool with no problems and bitpim no problems.

Posted by: DrOoPeE

Still looking and as of yet, I haven't been able to find where the wallpapers are stored....can anyone help with this...I use Verizon, and Brewski popped up a message saying something about having to go to get it now, but I am unsure how...any help would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks in advance

I do not have verizon, But I know on my phone I have to go to brew/settings/manage apps/system info then go back out to media gallery/images/graphics and the pics show up. try that and hopefully it will work.

Posted by: cid420420

brew is get it now on verizon the animations in the nvm_hei file which is brew locked and inaccessable thats the next real goal to access the brew locked files which would give people the ability to backup games they paid for as well as animations to verizons and most other carriers 8900's if we could edit nvm_hei and the other files in the /nvm/nvm/ directory then we could also edit the phone book as well as alot of other settings we cant access right now(a chunck of the phonebook lies in nvm files) bonch have you made any proggress on this maybe we could combine our research on this to come up with a solution to this situation becuase seeding animations sux i would also like to be able to backup my own games cricket is starting to offer games and appz mind you this won't let people pirate games the MIF files are still encrypted to your specific phone

Posted by: JDMONTY77

what if somebody unlocked their phone with the spc code. Could this file be altered then?

Posted by: cid420420

what does spc stand for and which file all the brew locked files?

Posted by: JDMONTY77

The SPC is the code that your service provider uses to lock certain programming functions. With this code you can unlock your phone and it allows it to be flashed with a new providers software so that you can switch providers. Most companies will not give you the SPC code, but if you do any programming with them over another phone on another phone you will inknowing get the code. What I do is tell them I want to switch my phone number or change my phone to another line and they walk me through the phone programming. This is how I have got my code for all my old phones so I could sell it on ebay when I got a new one.

Posted by: JDMONTY77

I think it stands for service provider code, but it may be something else

Posted by: cid420420

kinda doubtfull this probally has more to do with qualcom's brew it controls the file system same as windows does on your harddrive

Posted by: Gauge5577

Thank you for this.... There are only a few problems that I have found with this so far... The ringtones that I had sent to myself thru my vzwpix address and saved to the media gallery just disappeard... second when I try to connect I have to first use bitpim then after it fails and gives me an error message brewski connects just fine... I'm using the cable and drivers from verizon... just on a side note the ringtones that I had bought from get it now did not disappear..

Posted by: julesism

i've having problems getting the app to work too. it just "hangs" no matter what i try and do. bitpim works fine before and after i run brewsky so i know the connection isnt being tired up.

i got the app to run once, while uploading some wallpapers, it stopped, the file it was on failed, and im back to square one, all it does is hang.

Posted by: julesism

nevermind... its working again and the wallpapers say they are on the phone.... but i cannot find them on the phone itself :/ ive rebooted the phone twice.

Posted by: hell00

i keep having this problem with brewskey that i fear may be messing up my 8900. i can load ringtones onto my 8900 fine, and they all play fine, but once i connect to brewsky a second time and try to put on more ringtones, numerous amounts of my ringtones suddenly dissapear. i sometimes have 1 or 2 that are found. After this i look on my phone and all of my ringtones are still there, but after i restart my phone, they are gone. The part that worries me is that when i go on bitpim, it tells me that all of the ringtones are still there. These ringtones that i cannot see are taking up too much room on my phone and i don't know if it is OK to delete them with bitpim. plz help.

I use Cricket everytime.

Posted by: _w0

Saw my phone (Cell South) using Cricket settings-- about to upload my first ring tone.

Also, flippin, funny how the two active cell south users are both named brandon.

Posted by: freelane704

OK so i got my rintones......there in my phone......in the media and in settings...but they don't play when someone calls me...anybody know why?

Posted by: hell00

iono if ur talking about the same problem i had, but the reason they did not work for me was that i sent tones to my phone with more than one word. For a tone to work, there can be no spaces.

Posted by: 1337Vox8410

I think it might let you
do_it_like_this
and it will show up like spaces

Who knows till you try...

Posted by: freelane704

brewsky works fine for cricket phones.......the ringer was'nt playing because the phone number i was callin from had a set ringer in my phone book....so all cricket users ...get ya brewsky on..enjoy

Posted by: mpbc48

I think I'm sooo close, yet not quite there. I have definitely downloaded pictures successfully. I believe I uploaded the sample ringtone because Brewsky shows it to be on my phone and if I try to remove it Brewsky tells me to use my phone to delete it. My problem is that I cannot find it on my phone. The file browser doesn't show anything other than picture file(s) and the one sample ringtone. No other files show up, not even the existing ringtones or wallpaper. Maybe this is normal?

Am I missing something?

Vox 8900
Cellularone
Radio Shack cable #19
FutureDial Drivers

Thanks

Posted by: mpbc48

Yup, the mp3 (ringtone) is there... in the Media Gallery. I thought I might be able to "assign" it as a ringtone. "This item cannot be assigned." I gotta be missing something really easy....

Thanks

Posted by: JDMONTY77

go to menu/settings/sounds/ringer type/ringer then press right(envelope symbol/voice mail key) this will switch you from ringtones to music bells to downloads. Selct the download you want as your ringer and then press the big blue ok/camera button. This will be your ringtone. I had the same problem on my phone. I could not select the new ringertone because I was scrolling up/down to find the new donload in the ringer section when I should have been going left or right in the ringer section. I hope this helps.

Thanks JDMONTY77,
That was it exactly.

Also, thanks to bonch for
an easy to use tool.

Great program! Love it - thanks!

Small problem I keep finding is that when I upload ringtones from the Brewsky directory, I lose anything already in my phone that didn't originate from Brewsky.

For example, I emailed "Hotel California" to myself a while ago. I has been my default ringer. But, when I uploaded a couple more ringtones from Brewsky, Hotel California disappeared completely.

Not totally lost as I put it into the Brewsky directory and got it back on my phone, but an issue nonetheless.

Thanks!

Posted by: jrb_86

I am having problems getting the phone to connect to the program. It connected one time to send the buddyholly ringtone to the phone but now i cant get the phone to reconnect. Any suggestions?

Posted by: freelane704

if brewsky start to not read your phone..........open bitpim click system file and click + and let it read your phone when its done close bitpim and open brewsky selet port and phone...ta da..it works!!!!! you may have to repeat this process everytime you disconnect your phone from brewsky..i do.

Posted by: 1337Vox8410

Cool Beans

Posted by: freelane704

hay bonch....i think the only problem with brewsky is that is has problem sending a signal to the phone to recieve information....i have to open bitpim and get the info first (get a signal through the data cord) then open brewsky.....thats the only way i'm gettin brewsky to read my phone...but i know you still working out the bugs.......thanks for a great and easy tool...the time i save on installing ringtones, etc. its well worth opening bitpim first.

Posted by: mbenz910

Despite having to connect to Bitpim first Brewsky worked great for me. Downloaded 7 ringtones at once. Now everytime I go back my ringtones disappear. The space is still taken up on my phone, but I can no longer use them. Another thing, my girlfriends phone works great, but mine freezes almost everytime I'm downloading a tone. It is easy though. Thanks again.

Posted by: scdgoofy

mbenz910 - I had the same experience as you when I tried to upload multiple ringtones. Looks like you can only do one at time and that a phone reboot is needed in between uploads.

A bit pesky but a hell of a lot easier than bitpim (IMO).

heres what i notice about brewsky...sometimes it will make your ringtones dissaper...i don't know why....but there is a way around it......i know people say NEVER delete in bitpim but i delete my ringtones in it and it works fine....so what you do is....ALWAYS keep your tones in the brewsky ringtone folder...if you download a tone and it makes your other tones dissaper go to bitpim.....delete the hiddin tones (just the ones that DON'T show in the media on your phone) and reinstall them with brewsky along with any other tones you may want to download......for the sake of time i suggest uploading the tones in quantity instead of 1 here and there.....as far as freezing...there can be alot of reasons that is happing (dropped phone, memory full, or you may have done something wrong in bitpim by mistake...i've noticed that some mp3 ringers and some gif images can make your phone freeze or you just may still have those vanished rinetones in your phone (you can't see them but they still take up memory) if so erase them in bitpim (its the only way you can do it).....i don't know why tho...i suggest erasing ALL media on your phone (pictures, wallpapers, downloaded tones, etc) and delete any of those HIDDIN TONES you see in bitpim...if your phone still freeze's it may be a dud... then you need to take it to your service provider (hint...DO NOT TELL THEM ABOUT THE DATA CORD OR BITPIM OR THAT YOU"VE DONE ANY MODAFICATION TO THE PHONE,,,THEY WILL GIVE YOU YA PHONE BACK AND TELL YOU YOUR S.O.L.) hope this was helpfull

Posted by: schwarz2

well the reason the ringtones disappear is because the ringtones that brewsky uploads are stored in a different directory than where the ringtones go when you save them from a text message. If you upload some ringtones with brewsky, the ringtones in the /mms/om directory are safe to delete with bitpim.

LOL ya freelane704 that would suck... kinda like getting pulled over by the police and they ask if you had been drinking,
so you pull off the top logo
Lick it,then stick it to your forhead and tell the cop "No, I'm on the patch"

Love the prog!

I too have to access the phone via BitPim first. Is there anyone that does not have to access BitPim first? I read somewhere when setting up BitPim that some were changing the ##PORT option to USB DIAG. Mine is set to USB DATA.

I removed all files added via BitPim first. I then re-added my files using Brewsky. Biggest problem I have had was adding a 50K png file. Phone would reset when it tried to open it. To remove it, I had to select Erase All from a different file and start over. Other than that, I have not had any other problems.

I noticed that .gif files will not show in the computer file list. bonch, have you tried a .gif file?

Games? I read in the Games Games Games post that a guy added a game via BitPim by adding it to the download section of brew and then accessing Get It Now. He stated that the game worked!? Can this be done via Brewsky in the future?

Thanks for your work!

Can you put a setup tab in the program. I noticed that every time I load it up I have to set the correct com port. It seems to default on Com3 everytime you load the program. Thanks

Will Brewsky work on an 8600?? I need to get a cable to try it, but I was wondering if anyone else has had success??

oh,well still nice!!

hay schwarz2 i don't think thats the reason the tones vanish in brewsky......brewsky NEVER READS the tones i have in the MMS/OS direct. it always reads the ringer direct......now the funny thing is if a instance happens were brewsky makes some of my tones dissaper it makes the tones i have in the MMS/OS direct. vanish to....THE ONLY WAY TO REMOVE VANISHED TONES IN THE OS DIRECT or THE RINGER DIRECT. IS THROUGH BITPIM! EITHER WAY IT WILL NOT DAMAGE YOUR PHONE>>>AS LONG AS YOU DELETE ONLY THE TONE...DO NOT DELETE THE RINGER OR USER DIRECTORY ITSELF! people say what they like, but you can't delete a tone that does'nt show on your phone only way is by bitpim if you delete the directory your SOL besides if you don't you will have memory taken up that you won't be using......has anyone noticed that brewsky reads the file system very fast compare to bitpim? maybe a little to fast? to fast to read the directory completely....with could explain why sometimes only some of my tones vanish while others show up....also i notice the when this happens a tone that i have ASSIGNED as a ringer never dissapers....weird huh...well like i said this program is still a huge time saver so i'll deal with it..thanks bonch

Hi Everyone,
A quick thanks to all who have allowed me to get rid of the Verizon banner etc...
Just thought I would drop this post. I read earlier that someone had an issue with PNG files not working on the 8900 when saved from Photoshop. I had the same problem and figured out that you have to go to "Save for Web" and save the file that way, as opposed to "Save As"
Photoshop is weird when you use the "Save As" function on several file formats.

Just wanted to contribute to this amazing sharing of information in my own small way.

Thanks to everyone!

Wish List:
- Get rid of date/time in lower left corner
- Get rid of power on/off sounds and animation
- Higher frame rate for animations

ok, so I've downloaded Brewsy and was able to download the pics from my phone, and up load the mp3 that came with the program. I can't get it to up load wallpapers or pictures to my phone from my computer though. I've tried putting them in the Brewsky 8900\Wallpapers folder, and they don't show up in Brewsky. Am I missing something here?

TIA

Is there any work on US Cellular in the future for brewsky8900?

Please tell me there is!

How do I get my ringtones into Brewsky so I can put them on my phone?

I never was able to get bitpim to read the files on my phone. I have a Verizon 8900.

I was able to change the banner using Brewsky and got the Buddy holly ringtone onto my phone. I lost the ringtones I had sent myself via vzwpix including the ones that were set as ringtones for particular people.

I figured I would put them back on with Brewsky, but I can't figure out how to get them from my harddrive into Brewsky to put on my phone.

I thought upload might do the trick but clicking on upload doesn't do anything.

My computer is running the Win2000 OS if that helps.

I appreciate the software and probably am missing something simple.

Thanks!

I still just use CID420420's ringtone tool. It is easy and comfortable for me to work with. No reason to mess with success

My experience is that you don't *have* to "cut" them down. HOWEVER, since the phone only plays about 20 seconds max,
you would be wasting valuable space on your phone if you didn't.

I did a google on "Cool Edit Pro" and found a demo version. I'll use that until it expires or something better comes along.

Also, I think I read somewhere that the 8900 has appx. 2mb of space for ringtones. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) So, if you are considering regular music mp3's, there won't be enough space for even one of average size. If you are refering to the mp3 ringtones like at: http://www.tonez.com.au/polyphonics.php ,
some of them are pretty big, but would fit in your phone.
Editing an mp3 is really pretty easy, so I would recommend you do it.
You can find other threads here that discuss "how" to edit them.

Posted by: 1337Vox8410

I got the full edition of cool edit pro, with the cd code like 200mb if anyone want's

Posted by: rjacobs71

CoolEdit has been bought up by Adobe, Adobe Audition is the next generation of sound editing, very nice program.

After downloading the test tone with brewsky to my phone, I kept getting the "Please wait, user data is being restore...." error and the phone resetted itself. I tried to delete the test tone from the phone (bad idea..) and now whenever the phone powers on it will say "Please wait, user data is being restore...." and reset..

Now what..

Posted by: campiezy

UH OH THAT MIGHT BE BAD

Posted by: bryn987

I just downloaded this little program and after a few minutes figuring it out, was finally able to upload a higher quality ringtone then the one I have been using.

Properties of said ringtone are as follows:
*20 seconds long
*64 KBS bitrate
*44,100 sample rate
*mono
*mp3
* 161 kb for the size(give or take a few)
*MP3 HAS TO BE 1 WORD!!!(that threw me off for a few minutes

Other then that, I think some instructions would have been good at the begining but I'll list them here real quick

Go into device manager on your computer and check your port settings, the data cable should be 4.
Change port on Brewskies to 4 then connect. You should see the "phone ready"
Make sure your mp3 is in the brewskies ringtone folder under c://program files, etc

Rest should be simple enough. I havent had any ringtones lost yet but I havent messed around with it enough, though I do keep back up copies on my pooter always.
Would be nice to be able to have mutiple ringtones though.

I would like to make the clock transparent on the main screen if possible sometime down the road

Need help,

I can upload the wallpapers on my 8410 but no ringtones, any help??

Posted by: bryn987

^^

Posted by: 1337Vox8410

ok, I got my ringtone to the phone, I can activate it, but there is no sound from my phone...

The 8900 has a download_snd.txt
The 8410 has a download-snd.txt

So I saved my download-snd.txt to the desktop and renamed it download_snd.txt, I then opened up the 8900 ringtone tool v1.1
and found the ring tone that I wanted.

I then renamed the text file back to what it was to begin with download-snd.txt

Then I opened up BitPim and replaced that file, I opened up Brewsky and uploaded that ringtone. Now it is on my phone but no sound.

Does anyone know what format the ringtone needs to be in? or does anyone know of anyway to help me??

I have it in .mid format

Posted by: bryn987

dude, did you not just read my post??? Took me 5 minutes once I figured it out.
And why are you posting that bitpm crap in this Brewskies thread???

Go back, re-read my post, try it out, then post questions if you cant figure it outy

The only thing that I have been doing different is the MP3 HAS TO BE 1 WORD!!!. I'll try that tonight. Thanks for the info.

Looks like an excellent app.

I don't know if it's connecting or not, but it says Port Open when I press on Connect on COM 3 for Telus.

I then press "Refresh", and it says downloading the download_snd.txt, and it stays there forever.

I even tried changing the ports on the app to see if it works, but it doesn't.

Any help from Telus users will be appreciated. TIA.

Posted by: Devileyezz

Nevermind, I followed someone's instructions from another thread and it worked.

Trick: Use BitPim first, and then Brewsky, and it'll work. Why? No idea. But it works.

So far, a ringtone, an mp3 one (probably disguised as a .mid).. from glock's ringtones zip file has worked.

I tried with an image, (Glock's), the app says it's up there.. but I don't see it anywhere. Still figuring it out.

Posted by: Devileyezz

Maybe it's a brewsky bug?

But, after I upload a ringtone, it asks if I wanna reboot it. To which I say yes, but when the phone comes back on, the computer fails to recognize the "device", so I take the cable off.

The phone normally switches itself on, but then when I plug the cable back in, the phone shuts off.

And then when I do everyting back, it's normal.

I *think* its probably that Brewsky does a cold reboot without actually "Disconnect"ng from the phone.

Not that it's a HUGE problem, but just thought I'd put it in.

When it reboots the phone u have to do the bitpim thing again when ever u replug the cable the phone turns itself off no idea y just does so if u plug the data cable in be sure the phone is closed it will not turn off then...

Posted by: Devileyezz

Even if it's closed, it still switches off.

Posted by: campiezy

ODD very ODD

Posted by: Devileyezz

Latest issue.

I uploaded blablabla.mid from Glock's ringtones pack, and flash too. When I go to my ringtones folder on the phone, it says "flash" and the next line is empty, but there's a radio button there.

And once I go there, it automatically highlights the empty second slot, and gives a loud ringing sound, and it goes on until I switch the phone off.

Upon looking at it through BitPim, I don't find anything there in the usr/br/snd folder. (Or something like that).

When I do the same from Brewsky, I see "Shut up".. my old ringtone, which is not visible on the phone when you see it from the phone.

Stumped!

Posted by: Devileyezz

Now, in BitPim, in the ringtones folder, it used to show me my old ringtone "Shut up", when actually on my phone, there were these 2 new mp3 (disguised as .mids), and none was "Shut up", out of which one didn't even have a name!

And it gave a LOUD ringing sound.

I checked in Brewsky for the same, but in brewsky it showed just one of those 2 new mp3 ringtones. And ofcourse it won't let me delete it thru brewsky.

After I got done with the Analysis, I opened BitPim, and deleted the only showing old "Shut up" ringtone and then deleted the .PNGs I had uploaded earlier which were not seen ANYWHERE on the phone (God knows where they got disappeared, although brewsky and bitpim both say they see it on my phone, the fukers!).

Took off the cable, and nicely rebooted the phone. Uploaded newer tones (This time real .mids), and couple more newer .pngs. Rebooted like a good boy, and it's STILL LIKE THAT! ARGH!

What's going on?

Posted by: mrallthat

how do I change the voicemail and text message (received) tones? on the cricket 8900 there isn't an option to do it

Same here. I delete through bitpim, then install through brewsky.

Also I used the quintessential player to convert to MP3s. saved as one word..and they now work. thanks

Posted by: Devileyezz

So, saved as one word meaning "ringtone" or "ringtone.mp3"?

Posted by: campiezy

instead of usher burn it would be usher_burn

No the .mp3 is a givin.. In other words you want "Ringtone.mp3" and NOT "Ring Tone.mp3" You can also do what Campiezy did

But another thing I use is this decoder. Quintessential Player
It seems to be the only one that I tried that works???(and it's free) Just be sure to set the kbs at around 24kbs 22500hz mono instead of 64. Your phone speaker is a single one so you don't need to waste space with high quality and stereo.

Posted by: Devileyezz

So, you're telling me that it was probably the sound files that were the reason for all the fcukup that happened, including the loud ringing noise?

And that, if I make the tones myself, and make them according to your specs with the player you specified, and upload it through brewsky, it'll work? (Hopefully?)

OK, now I have a question for you. You said you added the "patch ERI Banner" option, but does it get rid of it just when it says verizon wireless, or when it says "extended network" also? i know there are patches for both.

Can I upload animated GIFs to the phone using Brewsky?

The only image types that show up in Brewsky's menu for uploading are those with a .png filetype.

So, how do I do it? Rename the .gif to .png?

Thanks

Anyone able to use Brewsky with a com port over 12?

My phone is on port 14, and I can access it with BitPim just fine, but not with Brewsky because of the port issue.

Of course, I should probably just re-arrange things so that I can access on a lower port, but I'm stubborn that way.

Also, when I do get Brewsky up and running, I will probably want to make a config for Metro PCS in the .ini. Does not look too bad, but I don't suppose that anyone has messed with that allready, have they?

I love this forum!

I could not get my phone to recognize mp3's - had to rename them to mid.

I am using CellOne(Western Wireless) and had already e-mailed a bunch of mp3's renamed as mids to my phone. (Those were stored in root/MMS/OM.) I deleted those with my phone before I used Brewsky to upload 4 or 5 mp3's. My phone didn't show them in the media gallery. I then renamed a few to mid and uploaded them. Voila--the phone saw these just fine and was able to assign as ringers. In Bitpim, I saw the mids AND the mp3s all in user/sound/ringer, but my phone only showed the mids. So I deleted the mp3s with Bitpim and uploaded the rest of my tones as mids. All working great for me now.

Side note: I noticed that the tones I uploaded with Brewsky start playing faster (about .5 second delay as opposed to about 1.5 second delay with the ringers I downloaded to MMS/OM via e-mail), and I am able to scroll through the tunes faster, too.

bonch - thanks again for a great, easy to use app!!

i have metro pcs and brewski works just fine i use the verizon on com 3 but i do have to opend bitpim and let it era out first then open brewski but if you could make a metro pcs tab and kill the need for opening bitpim that would great!

I took my phone to the Verizon store and asked them to remove the banner. The man just smiled and said "Sorry, that's built into the software."

I promptly went home, used the stuff I learned here, and got rid of it myself hehe Thanks guys

I downloaded Brewsky last week and it worked just fine. I removed the verizon banner and uploaded a few ringtones with no problem at all. Very cool indeed

I never downloaded bitpim because I didn't seem to need it, Brewsky did everything I wanted. I'm using windows xp home and I accessed the phone in Com4 with no trouble. Then something happened.

Now I'm having a problem connecting with Brewsky. I don't know what happened but suddenly I cannot do anything. No matter what port I try nothing happens. I get a time out error message on every port but Com1. On Com1 I see the "uploading" window forever when I try to upload a ringtone.

When I plug in the cable, instead of the familiar "bing bong" sound I hear "bong bong bong". I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and brewsky but to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Much

Try doing the BitPim thing for once.

Posted by: Noggin

Phone: CDM 8900
Provider: Cellular South

I had to use BitPim and let it error out, then I could open Brewsky and connect to the phone.

The problem I'm having though is that sometimes when I tell it to read the song data from the phone it doesn't get everything. Then, if I upload a song, the ones that Brewsky didn't see are not accessable from the phone.

I said, "oh well," and proceeded to upload the missing songs.

Now, when I press the camera button to take a picture, the bar across the top (which I assume represents free storage space) its about halfway over.

Is this because the songs that went missing are still taking up space but nothing is able to see it as its not in some index file? If so, how can I reclaim this space. I assume there is a way to reset the phone that would clear it.... but I'd be devastated if I lost my address book.

I guess I'd better start writing down phone numbers....

Lastly, the BitPim website says something about going to its properties menu and selecting the 9800, but the only thing I see in the properties menu is "Disk Storage" and "Com Port"

Edit: the ringtones and wallpaper I use. I can't claim first ownership to any of them, though I "made" them all if you consider chopping someone elses work so it will fit as "making" Is there any way to turn the clock off on the main screen? Its covering up a good bit of flourescence I really should read more of that ×××× manual I guess

Posted by: freelane704

i had the same problem with brewsky...what your gonna have to do is go into bitpim and erase all the tones that don't show on your phone...if you used brewsky to load them they will be located in the user/sound/ringer directory////DO NOT DELETE THE DIRECTORY IT SELF!!! ONLY DELETE THE TONE!!!

Posted by: Devileyezz

When I'm done uploading some img through Brewsky, it says "Exit your BREW menu and then check to see it"

But, I dunno wtf is BREW. So, I switch off the phone and switch it on to see, but I don't see it anywhere.

Plus, did anyone successfully upload images through Brewsky as wallpapers?

Because in BitPim, I see the path as br/shared/im/img, but in data.ini of Brewsky, I see the wallpaper path as br/im/img.. could it be something?

Another thing, last time I uploaded cameron.png (I don't remember if it was through PC Sync, or BitPim or Brewsky). But now, I deleted all instances of it through BitPim. And I still see it as a blank image, which doesn't let me access it's menu key, or select key, and nor does it let me browse by up and down arrow keys. But the back button works.

Because of this, any new images I upload are also not visible, because this image doesn't let me browse to other wallpapers on the phone. So, first thing is to delete this image. But how do I do it?

I did it through BitPim. I don't see it on Brewsky. It says "You can delete it through the phone" on PC Sync.

What version of BitPim works with the 8900? I downloaded the newest one (I think) from BitPim's website. The help files say to select the options menu and select the phone, but I see nothing that would allow me to select a phone other than its default.

I'll search their website and see if they have any that are one or two builds old

Edit: Nevermind, I had the newest non-development version, not the newest build. I still can't do anything with it though. If I select "other cdma phone" and try to download any data from it, all the checkboxes to select wallpaper, ringtone, etc are grayed out

Eventually someone will have a program that works great (brewsky works good, but not great just yet ). In the mean time, where I can I get specifications on the protocol for sending, deleting, and downloading of files?

Hey its another edit I found the tree view, but I can't open up the user/sound/ringer. I get as far as user/sound... but ringer won't open. Using an Audiovox straight USB cable DICU-8400CA

Posted by: Devileyezz

Hopefully, the author of Brewsky comes back in this forum and announces a new release.

AND, answers some questions.

Posted by: Noggin

Bitpim and QPST both can not obtain a directory listing for user/sound/ringer. Brewsky's fileview tab doesn't do anything... I can click on it, but it doesn't show a new window, only what I was already looking at.

I've been searching the forum for someone with a similar problem, but haven't been able to find any information. Am I alone in this? I doubt it.... Perhaps I should attempt finding new drivers other than than curitel.

Posted by: Devileyezz

You are not alone. I'm just waiting for answers, too many questions overdue.

Posted by: Carmaker

Nice program, I see you are working on a new version, will it retrieve the phone book?
Will it work with US cellular ?

Posted by: DrOoPeE

Bonch, here's an idea for your next version.....incorporate some tool like you did with the ERI.bin replacement and make this one copy the download_snd.txt file over the default_sms_tone.txt, allowing for downloaded ringtones to be used as text message ringers.....you might also want to include a way to restore the default_sms_tone.txt back to original state too fot those that decide they don't want the downloaded ringers for text messages anymore

Does Brewsky work for the 8600, on Verizon?

Posted by: Coop6

I have a Verizion 8900, i have the crutial drivers 4.18

Nevermind i found the problem..

The drivers use two coms.. you need to use the com the modem is on.. which in my case was 3 not 4...

Posted by: advntrous1

I just would like to thank BONCH and the rest of the amazingly talented people on here. I have the Verizon 8900 and I was quite nervous about screwing around with the phone since they have become so complex.

However, the people on this site really know their stuff and most importantly, explain themselves very well. I have some great suggestions how to take your favorite songs and put them on your phone. I have gotten addicted to NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND on PS2 and love the song "Born too Slow". I cropped it, made it smaller using Acoustica MP3 Audio Mixer, and used Brewsky. It worked perfectly and the song sounds very clear!

The only issue I have is I can't get bitpim working for the life of me. I get a page that gives a whole list of errors. Brewsky works fine. I'm gonna go with the fact its now almost 5am and Im way over tired. If anyone knows the answer, please let me know.

Thanks again to all of you. Even the people that thought they were asking dumb questions...Its those people that made me feel comfortable enough to try this knowing that there were plenty of people who helped them successfully. Besides, worse case scenario.....I found out the main new york audiovox wireless tech place is 5 minutes away!

<<<<<------I love this smilie!

This program requires a cable

EXCELLENT NEWS FOR ME!!!

Recently, I have been unable to access my user/sound/ringer directory if I had ANY MP3's in the directory. My motherboard has two USB hubs, each with 2 USB ports. I disconnected all my cables to move my computer, and when I hooked everything back up, I changed my phone from my lower hub to my upper hub.

Curitel drivers were auto-installed since I changed hubs, and now I can access my directory with the MP3's in it.

Curitel drivers are now installed for BOTH hubs, lower hub is on COM4 and upper hub is on COM6.

Hope this helps someone!

I think that I may have found a HUGE reason that some people can download tones but not pictures using Brewsky or Bitpim:

Take a look in your media gallery; Go to Images; Go to Graphics

Do you have any thing downloaded in there that you downloaded from an email? It must be deleted. Nothing would work until I deleted a pic a friend had sent. Once deleted, it worked fine using Bitpim or Brewsky!!!!!!!!!

Next: Some people use the term "Brew menu"....for all you Verizon members...Its called "get it now" (this drove me nuts looking for the word brew on my phone)

Next: Deleting files using Bitpim is fine as long as you ONLY delete the file itself. ****ONLY THE FILE ITSELF****. For experienced users you can delete tree's if you were the one who created the tree in the first place. If your not sure, just leave it. The memory used for an extra tree with no file is next to nothing.

I also found that reinstalling the driver (futuredriver) again helped. The first time I unzipped it, I never realized that it was only creating the program from a zip file. IT was NOT installing the drivers. I know, it sounds dumb, but I did it!

I have also found out that the cord MUST be unplugged and re-plugged after you unhook the phone and want to reattach it. The computer does not recognize that it had been re hooked back up. As soon as you unplug and replug, it makes things work easier.

Ok. Now. How the hell do we:

Make the clock box clear/smaller?

Change the font color of the clock?

Delete/Change the shutdown/startup which is the dumbest thing I have ever seen with the worse noise I have ever heard

Once again, I would like to thank all those who have carved the path to get all of us to this point.

If anyone has any good ideas about this, please.....let us all know!!!

Posted by: lminor7

Hey thanks much, advntrous1.
Your post was a big help!

Posted by: advntrous1

Your welcome....Glad I could help someone like people have done for me!

Posted by: advntrous1

Well I did finally come up with an idea with regards to the whole clock issue.

Simply make the screen saver and the wallpaper the same pic. Then put the time to activate the screen saver at 5 seconds. I barely see the clock any more...Hey its better than nothing.

i'm pretty sure the answer is still unknown, but just double checking: i uploaded the sample wallpaper from brewsky to my phone, but i don't know where it is. and i can't delete it thru brewsky since it wants me to delete it from the phone normally, but i cant do that cus i cant find it lol....anyone?

Posted by: Pimp-C

ok, lemme get this right. when using Brewsky, i just click "add" and it will add the selected ringtone/wallpaper? Last time i tried this with bitpim i totally screwed my phone up, i just want to be sure. thanks

Posted by: mikey4226

click add, then "update ringtones" at the bottom right corner and it'll do everything from there

awesome, thanks

Thousands of free tones.

A word of caution though... some of them are awfully large.

Better yet, make your own.

what is a good program to cut the songs shorter...something also user friendly please

Posted by: hell00

there are two good programs that i use, but unfortunately they are only free trials( too poor to buy them )

i use fleximusic wav editor, and audio mp3 editor

both of these programs are simple to use and have all of the features you need for making mp3 ringtones for your phone.

also, fleximusic wav editor is not just for wav files, it does mp3's too

Posted by: beirutsyclipp21

how do i use these programs...how do i convert.......how do i get this ×××× cable to be detected other then usen its gay curitel thing.........

Posted by: leodaq

bonch: I have found that if I delete any ringers using my phone, Brewsky dosen't read the whole ringer list off the phone. Bitpim sees them, and I can still access and use them with the phone.

If I just upload a ringer at the end of an existing list, Brewsky does just fine and updates the list OK and everything is usable. However, if I upload with Brewsky after deleting a ringer with the phone, the program dosen't read the whole ringer list and overwrites the list with only the ringers it did see, and the ringers on the new list are the only ones my phone sees, too.

I don't know if this is fixable, but Brewsky is still VERY helpful even if you can't fix it. Thanks again for all your good work!

However, I decided I would delete all the ringtones and start fresh. I got this above message again and the phone keeps rebooting over and over and over.....

What is my best option, is there anyway I can restore my phone?

Try a differnet com port. Mine is now connecting under com 5.

so does the bitpim and brewsky sometimes use different coms? how do i know when a com port works on brewsky? what does it say at the bottom left? btw thanks for ur help enigma-2 and everyone else

I used bitpim to find which port to use (edit, settings, browse, and the port to use is listed at the bottom of the lower panel.)

In Brewsky make certain that you change it to that port (Brewsky's default is port 3 and always goes back to its default every time it's started.)

Posted by: xxkrnbabigrlxx

it still doesnt work =T

well i should be using the right port already if i can see the tree in bitpim right? i use com 4 for that but when i want to go into the filesystem>user>sound>ringer...it says retrieving for a while and then i get this window that says

"Lg-VX4400 on COM4: The phone is not responding while manipulating the filesystem."

same thing happens when i put my settings as LG6000

Has this program become usable for telus clients? i wud really like to kno because i like the program interface and wud like to do it up.

htnx for any help.

Posted by: efisio

This is an excellent program, thanks a million. I made some wallpapers off of existing wallpaper I had on my PC for the phone. Also, it seems that wallpaper only needs to be 128x132, but for the screensaver it needs to be 128x145. I'm sure a lot of you already knew this but anyway. Here's some I formatted for the CDM8900:
(128x145)

(128x132)

Posted by: tercero12

Like some of you guys, Brewsky leaked memory on my phone. Bummer is, I can't get Bitpim to list my /user/ringer/ directory.

I've tried the above suggestions of reloading the USB drivers (curitel) to get a different port. I got a different com port, and bitpim communicated much quicker, but still no ringer folder.

If I delete the ringer folder and recreate it, will it b0rk my phone? Has anyone tried this?

Posted by: Devileyezz

tercero, I'd suggest not to delete the folder. Because I've learnt that an empty folder consumes a very minute piece of memory, or nothing at all.

Plus, try listing /ur/sn/rng using BitPim (Ofcourse). 99% you should find your tones there.

And Horaysh, I'm a Telus user, and yes, it works with my CDM-8900. :-)

I just got an audiovox CDM9800 (verison wireless) today and im all ready looking for a way around that retarted"get it now" thing. Really who is going to pay for ring tones games wall papers ext. So i go out and buy there USB conector figureing i wont have any problems finding some place giveing out free ring tones and what not and i figure it will make it 100 times easyer to remake my phone book and alow me to get on the enternet when im out of town. well i get the normal fetures for the cable set up and fix my phone book but i soon find it to be harder than i ever emagend to find free ring tones games and wall papers ext. untill i come across this program. so i download it and when in the program i try to get the basic demo for ring tones on to my phone and i am not succesful. im pretty sure im on port 4 but go ahead and try on all the ports to find the same results. all it dose is say its conected so i add then click upload ring tones and wait... and wait and wait and it dose not do any thing it just leaves the loading bar up there for ever and then some. im not sure what i have done wrong and what else there is to do with the program. it dose nothing under any port and verison i also got bitpim just to look at but i havent played with it enugh to under stand and i dont know why i would need it to run your program... but if any one can tell what i have done wroung or has any tips or tricks to get it to work please tell me.. just post because im really confused... but im glad some one took the time to make a program to do what this one is capable of.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm on US Cellular and I have no /ur folder. I'm trying to delete all the ringtones on my phone. I guess my question is, if I delete a folder, does it delete the folder's contents as well?

click this link for ringtones, wallpapers, and screensavers, and animated GIFs. To my knowledge the audiovox 8900 cannot play games becuase its not java powered they do everything through brew. So know one hasnt figured out a way yet to play games but this should help you.free ringtones etc.

From what I understand you have to connect with BitPim first, but BitPim will not connect. OtherCDMA Phone, Com 4 (this IS the port I'm using) ive tryed useing auto find port and every thing under settings...

dose an one know how to set the settings up in bitpim so it detects a cdm 8900?

Can you post a link as to where I can get the futuredial drivers?? I tried the link in earlier posts, but it didn't work. I would love to only have to use brewsky instead of both.
Thanks

Posted by: VTjay79

Ok so from what i've been reading, and i just want to make this clear before i go messing up my phone..........

so if it doesnt show up in brewsky, but DOES show up in bitpim, i am supposed to remove each separate file with bitpim so that its not just wasting away space....since i cant play it any longer.....correct?

edit: well i said screw it, and i did it, and it worked, so that will be all

Posted by: LTOThud

VT... Easy solution... remove all images and ringtones using the phone before using Brewsky. Anything that I had added using Bitpim, I deleted with the phone. To be safe, I even deleted all the pictures I had taken with the camera. After all of the images a ring tones are removed, brewsky will work just fine. If I understand the issue, it is caused by files that were added by bitpim and then more files are added by brewsky.

I use Brewsky with no problems and I never downloaded Bitpim to my computer.

I bought the cable from Radio Shack for about $17.00 but I'm sure you can find it on ebay for less. Make sure you get the data transfer cable for the LG V6000 phone.

Hope this helps

hey Lminor7..thxn a bunch...but i'm still dont' understand which cable to get.....why should i get the LG V6000 data cable instead of the original Audiovox 8900 data cable?...is it because they have the same port for the phone?

Posted by: lminor7

Hey ar_mike,

I understand your confusion! Here's a web site that may be helpful:

http://www.earthuser.com/8900

There's lots of useful information there. Also, here's a picture of the cable recommended on that website:

http://www.earthuser.com/8900/images/Cable.jpg

I don't really know why you would use the one for LG instead of the one for Audiovox, and maybe one of the more knowledgeable readers of this thread can answer that question, but I bought both cables and the only one that worked for me was the LG cable.

Hope this helps

Lminor7

hey Lminor7..i checked radioshack for that LG 6000 data cable....but then they said that they don't carry it~>...did you get it in the states?>...because i live in canada~>...do you have any other ideas on where to get this cable?...thxn a million!

*EDIT*

i've just checked ebay for the LG VX6000 data cable...many of them are pretty cheap but they only do shipping for within the US....and most of them also include a program disc....if i do get thta cable....should i install the program that comes w/ it?...or just install brewsky and it'll all work beautifully?....

Posted by: lminor7

ar_mike,

Here's a link on ebay I just found:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5714991360&rd=1

Hope it works here...

At first I installed the drivers on the disk that came with the cable. When Brewsky stopped working and I uninstalled everything I never used the disk again and installed the drivers in one of these threads.

Good luck

I would recommend getting the straight usb cable without the serial converter in it tho. I have read that some people have had problems with the cables with the "box" (converter). I got a straight LG VX6000 cable off ebay today and it has worked perfectly so far.

FWIW, I bought both off Ebay (listed for CMD 8900) and both work equally well w/o problems.

Both came with Curitel drivers, both require I first connect with Bitpim first before connecting with Brewsky. (Never u/l anything with Bitpim so don't believe that's the problem).

When I try to connect to Brewsky, I get a "Error Downloading" message. It gets hung up when it tries to get my download_snd.txt file.

I had modified it before on BitPim, and then uploaded my "default" that I had saved from before I tried to do ringtones.

Any clue?
