VM - Verizon Service Questions..

Hello all,
Just got my VM slider (used off eBay - it was a VM activated model).
I read all the posts and somehow someway got the phone to work fine with my current verizon account....but it was bizarre.
Can anyone explain this....
1. I received the phone active with VM minutes still on it. I actually placed a VM call from the phone as soon as I got it. So, this sould mean I need to 'unlock' the phone to set the SPC to 000000.
I got what I thought was the SPC code from bitpim/hexdump and entered it. The Question: Does this automatically switch the SPC to 000000 ? Because after that, the SPC became 000000 and I can now access the programming menu no problem by doing 111111 <talk> and entering 000000 as the code...OR is the original code I put in junk and the SPC was 000000 all along?
Also, I did at somepoint run that unlock.exe program and it didn't exactly respong telling me it did anything..but maybe it did..
Also noteworthy: the SE47.exe also shows the SPC as 000000 now.
2. I went through the 10 or so steps to set the phone up for VZ activation (switching the ESN on-line at verizonwirless.com to the slider ESN, the NAM stuff, etc.) This all went well. When I dial *22801 option 1, the activation FAILED. Yet the phone now makes and receives calls on my Verizon line...with my correct Verizon phone # ? I did NOT flash the phone and still have the VM sofware installed.
3. When I dial the normal *228 <talk> I get a display on the phone saying my PRL is 10020 which I believe is Sprint ? And the automated voice says "Welcome to Sprint.."
4. When I login to verizonwireless.com now, I see a photo of the slider as my phone (instead of my old Audiovox CDM-9500) and the 'last call' date and time reflects the last call I made. Do I need to do anything else to get activated ? Do I need to Flash the phone with VZ software to make the *22801 (or *228) activation work?
Thanks - and I'm sorry this is long and confusing.
