HI,
The phonebook in my s56 is empty. I don't know how this happened, but is there a way to recover the phonebook? Or do I have it switched to an alternate phonebook? I had over 50 entries and do not want to have to re-enter them.
Thanks,
Jerry

addressbook (saved on phone) or phonebook (saved on sim)? maybe you accidently switched from one to the other. if not, then i think you are out of luck. so unless you saved your contacts in your sim card or backed them up in outlook, i think you would have to re-enter all the numbers.

I lost my address book on my SL56 in the same way. I think mine disappeared when I changed the battery without turning the phone off. If you lost it out of the address book, unless you backed it up to your computer, it's gone forever. That's what prompted me to get the S56 that I can sync to my Mac via Bluetooth. Now if it happens again, at least I can recover.
You can copy your entries from the address book to the phone book on the SIM card as a semi-backup, but you don't get all the fields or categories.

I just lost the address book on my sl56 today and came here to see if anyone else had the same problem. And here's this thread right up top.
I don't really care if I can't get my entries back, but I'd like to figure out what caused the deletion so I can avoid it happening again.
I didn't do anything unusual like take my battery out or anything. I had powered it down the night before because I was at a hospital where they required phones be turned off. I pretty much never power it down, so that was unusual I guess. Then I tried to voice dial today and - BAM - there weren't any listings in the addressbook. Crazy....

Just an FYI for next time.
here is a great free site for using syncML on your S56 phone to backup your data.
www.mobical.net
They have great instructions or can do ota if your phone supports it.

Or, if you don't like sending conatct info over the web, I suggest you just synchronise with Outlook or use the Siemens Data Suite:
Do a Read OUT and send it to FILE. That way, if you ever lose your conacts again at least you can send the file back over to your mobile.
I've never had my number dissapear so I can't really comment of why that would happen. Did you check for updated firmware?

I had this happen on my wife's SL55 and she had most of the contacts on the SIM, the ones she didn't I just sent via irda from my phone.
At the time it happened, the phone had locked up and I pulled the battery. Since then I was given the USB data cable and have backed up the contacts. Very handy to be able to do so.

I was warned not to remove the battery on my SL56 without powering the phone off - now I'm glad I followed that advice. Hope you fix your problem...

Crazy, I lost my phonebook this weekend too. I turned the phone off the nite before and it crashed rather than turned off. IN the morning, my phonebook was erased. I had most of my #s backed up, but not one very important one (
) ××××!
I noticed another thread about a siemens phone not even turning on and that just happened to a friend of mine. Not a good week for Siemens I guess
