both will work. the sd cards have a better life expectency over mmc. mmc are thinner and more flexable, for younger people that remove the cards alot. as for the size...MOST cell phones now a days, go for a top size of 128-256 for OEM flashed f/w. most manufactures are different, but most stick to similar guide lines. all my nokias go up to 256 on flashed f/w. so check hofo and do a well researched google search. a better answer can be found. this was just a starting point of ideas. cheers!

the general rule of thumb is that if a device takes a SD card, generally it will also take an MMC card. It doesn't work the other way around (if a device takes MMC it doesn't necessarily take SD) since SD cards are slightly thicker.
Generally SD cards usually have a higher transfer speed due to 2 data pins compared to the MMC's 1.
In terms of life expectancy, I haven't heard anything about MMC cards under normal usage to have a shorter life than SD cards w/ their shock ratings usually being the same(besides the obvious fact that they are thinner).

Our SD cards have transfer rates of 10 MB/sec if you want speed....

There are comparisons of speed in howards recent review:

here's a review w/ speed comparisons for just MMC cards:
