Need help using BitPim to transfer EVERYTHING to a new LG6000

Hi all. I’m looking for advice because I just fried my second LX6000. The first one I got had problems making calls. Some went thru, some connected but I could hear nothing while the person I called would hear me, and others would connect to a Verizon error message.
CS decided it was defective and sent me a new one. I had purchased PC Sync, but since it only copies contacts, did some searching and found this forum, a few others, and BitPim. It worked wonderfully for transferring my contacts, calendar, wallpapers and ringtones.
However, I wanted to also transfer other information. I had two games that I downloaded (paid) thru GIN, dialed, received and missed calls that I wanted to keep, voice memos, etc. I *thought* that I understood various posts that I read about how to do it.
….um, nope.
I honestly can’t remember what I first tried backing up from the original phone and restoring to the second. (No, I did not really know what I was doing!) Eventually tho, I gave up and figured I would just restore the entire root.zip file, which I had already saved from the “good”, but not connecting well. At this point bitpim showed some erros, the phone shut off and wouldn’t turn on.
Has anyone ever replaced their phone with a new one and transferred EVERYTHING from one phone to the other? If so, plllleeeeeeaase share exactly how you did this. I doubt Verizon will understand if I tell them exactly how the phone stopped working *again*!
Thanks in advance,
Sandy

You can't transfer brew2.0 apps from one phone to another. (they're signed to the phone.) I'm about to upgrade my vx6000, good to know that I definately shouldn't try to restore the root folder. Sorry you had to find out the hard way.
You'll have to take the phone in and have them reflash it. You have no other choice if the phone won't even start up... sorry.
As for getting games from the old onto the new, just redownload them, and call VZW CS for a credit on the games. Tell them about upgrading your phone, and they'll credit your account for all of the games.

HyToFry,
Thanks for the information about the games. I'll do that.
The phone that won't start up was also replaced (sorry if I was unclear on that -- I now have TWO to send back!).
The one that I want to transfer everything to is the "new" new one.
I'm still hoping to be able to transfer dialed, received and missed calls, voice memos, etc. I *think* I see them when I browse the filesystem files. I will attach an image of what I think they are. But I believe that's how I started...trying to replace some of them (I honestly don't remember what I did first).
Thanks again.

Sorry to bump my own thread, but I need to return the first (defective) phone and the second (fried) phone to Verizon in the next day or so. But I really would like to keep the dialed, received and missed calls, voice memos, etc.
Anyone who has successfully transferred/copied/moved/etc., these files, please share how you did it. I have searched endlessly to see if anyone has either restored or copied over, any of the files/folders that I have circled (boxed) in the image above.
Thanks,
Sandy

I haven't done it yet.
I probably won't for some time to come.
If you've already backed up the data on your computer, then the other two phones are now dead shells, send them back.
I can honestly say that I don't know which files you can and can't replace... but... if it was me... (bear in mind that you're not me, so you might not want to take my advice.
) I would transfer the following:
Firstly, use the new phone to record a voice memo. (Which you will later overwrite.
You should keep the phone closed, and not use it while you're doing the following steps. Pray that noone calls you.
Now. Overwrite whatever the voice memo is with mem0008.qcp. That should work fine.
Now *overwrite* the following files on the phone, with the copies from your old phone.
incoming_log.dat
missed_log.dat
outgoing_log.dat
pbentry.dat
pbgroup.dat
pbnumber.dat
pbspeed.dat
This should give you back your call history and phone book, and I don't think it's tied to a phone. Mainly, I think you messed up by trying to move the GIN apps...
now overwrite memo.dat and schedule.dat and schexception.dat
This replaces your notepad, and calendar.
inbox000.dat and inbox001.dat are the two text messages you had. Copy them if you want (just add them as new files, the phone figures out the rest) but you don't seem to be a very big text message user, so you probably don't even want to bother.
Now. Turn your phone off and (hopefully) back on.
If it doesn't work (and it will) then I'm very sorry. Call and yell at VZW and tell them to get their ×××× together.

Let me know how it goes. I'm going to have a new phone soon enough.

THANK YOU
I recorded the memo and overwrote it -- worked great!
Something I do remember from trying to transfer to the second phone, was that wallpapers would not transfer unless I had at least one camera shot on the new camera. If I didn't, BitPim kept getting errors.
Then I overwrote (well, I used the restore from the .zip files) only these:
incoming_log.dat
missed_log.dat
outgoing_log.dat
...since the others (phone book, calendar, pics) were already replaced with "send data to phone". I also didn't bother with the text messages, since they weren't all that important.
And now, I am SOOOOOO not touching the games! I'll just download them again and call CS for a credit.
Thank you so much. BitPim is "kinda fun", but also rather dangerous!

Oddly, I found out today that you can replace the entire file structure of the phone when it's not even turned on. You just have to have a usb adapter which allows the phone to charge while plugged in. (the one from VZW does if you have a car charger) As long as you're charging the phone, you can backup, restore, whatever. (so it would hav ehelped you with your second phone.)
Glad it turned out good for you.

Hmmmmm... I just had to try this
But no, I couldn't get it to work tho. First I tried with the fried phone and got:

...the first message was when the phone was off, before starting BitPim, the second message was when I opened BitPim and tried to retrieve the filesystem.
I tried this again with my original phone (the one that has problems placing calls) and got only the second message from BitPim. WinXP didn't give me the USB error (altho it's not visible in DeviceManager).
Thanks again (maybe I'll try playing with seeing it when it's off again with the THIRD phone so I can send the other two back and finally get my money back!). But now it's time to stop playing and get a little Saturday non-phone-toy work done

Remember that the phone has to be charging through the cable (and not its desktop charger.) Not all cable support this feature. It should say "Verizon Wireless" on the phone if it's charging and turned off.

OK, I think I am being dense. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "...if you have a car charger..."
I didn't buy the cable from VZW, but thru LG Electronics because I wanted the USB data kit (http://www.buywirelessnow.com/lg/Ph...G+VX6000#418536)
and not the Mobile Office Kit from VZW (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...cessoryId=13993) -- only to find out later about BitPim and all I really wanted the kit for was to transfer data to my laptop and back to my phone!
The cable says "LG USB Cable -- Model: LG-USB7000".
The phone doesn't display anything when it's only plugged into the USB port and the phone is off. (I did originally think you meant off, but charging in the desk charger -- still unsure what you mean about the "car charger"...?
(Thanks for taking so much time explaining to me
)

I know I'm still being dense...but...
I still have both of the defective phones that need to be sent back to Verizon. The first one which has all of the data still on it (that's the phone that has trouble placing calls), and the second one that I fried w/BitPim.
The first one should be easy enough to erase my personal info (contacts, pics, messages, calls, etc.) from. But I really would like to remove all of the data stored on the fried phone before shipping it back. If it's possible to retrieve it, dependent on the cable used, then it's possible for VZW to also.
I guess I'm still not clear on which cable to use, and what the connection to the car charger is. Looking at my car charger, it says "LG4500" on the piece that connects to the phone, "A008L4135" on the cable attached to the charging end, and VerizonWireless on the piece that plugs into the car.
The data cable says "LG USB Cable", "Model: LG-USB7000".
What is the difference between what I have and what you have (again, sorry if I'm being thick!!!)?

On my usb cable (which I bought through VZW) there is a small port on the box in the middle of it. (on one of the sides which has no cable coming out of it.) It's the same port found on the bottom of the phone. My car charger plugs into this port. It allows me to charge the phone while the usb data cable is plugged into the phone.
If you have a laptop, then you can plug the car charger into the data cable, plug the data cable into the phone and laptop, and then the phone will allow you to access the file system while it's turned off.
Hope this helped.

Ohhhhhhhhhh! (or Duh!). On the bottom of the phone the little piece of rubber that covers that port is much more noticeable -- the shade of grey is darker. I didn't even notice it on the cable, since they box is black and so is the rubber piece.
I just removed it and am on my way to the car! I still don't know if it will work in seeing the files since the cable is LG's, not VZW's, but at least I'm feeling a little less dense
I'll keep you posted (thanks for hand-walking me thru this).

...last update...I think...
I took everything to the car. It worked...sort of. My first phone and third (current) phone "worked". With the phone off, the charger plugged into the USB cable, both phones could be accessed with BitPim and seen in DeviceManager.
The second (fried) phone could not. WinXP still gave me the "USB Device not recognized" message.
I guess I feel a little more confident, tho, that when I ship it back VZW won't be able to have access to my contacts, messages, etc.
Oh well, any more ideas?

Drop it in the lake before you ship it back?
I seriously doubt that VZW or LG cares enough to try to extract your info. Probably, they'll just flash everything out, and then recycle the parts. (Don't worry too much about it.)
On a side note... when I don't plug my cable in *just* right, I get a Windows XP "usb device not recognized" error.

for a better BitPim alternative, try this:

I definately wouldn't say that it's "Better" but it is a good alternative.
