I just got a new clear housing for the v600 and everything went smoothly until i got to the sidekeys, no matter what i do i cant get the keys to freakin work! Does anyone here have any advice on installing it correctly? it would be even better if someone had pics to show me on how to do it also, i heard about the option of putting tissue or something, but i dunno where. THANX!

did you remove the metal "L" shaped piece from your original housing? be careful when you reinstall it, make sure you have it behind both the board contacts as well as the actual keys.

so the outer layer (keys) then board contacts, then metal "L" piece

ahh! that gold piece? no i didnt remove it from the original. i couldnt take it out so i left it there thinking it wouldnt be of any use. let me try n take it ou again

or it might be the contact for the side keys
If you look carefully and compare your old keypads and new ones (the one that comes with the housing), look at the top left and right, the original one will have some sort of bump on them which it uses to press down on the ribbon cable so that it'll stick to the main board, that's the contact that it should make.
I spend a few hours with the same mistake as you did ..(side keys won't work) and finally after some careful search on this forum found the way to fix it..
you'll just have to put some tissue paper or foam to replace that little bump to push it against the main board.
that's all that you'll have to do.

What other stuff could be put underneath the keys? You said foam or tissue. Does it have to be something soft or soft but yet hard, or could it be a little plastic wire. I really want these keys to work because after a whole year, I can't lower or raise the volume on my phone.

it's been a while, and since then I've retired my phone. But if memory serves me right anything will do, it'll just be the extension of the outer button and the ribbon cable.

Well i opened up my mothers old v220, and i saw that the gold wires for the side keys were glued down. That's the first problem for me, both sides aren't glued down, they're hanging freely. The second problem is, the side keys have always worked but not on their own. I've had to hold the voice key down and then hit the side keys. This only works when the phone is closed, so there is no volume control or selecting ring styles while the phone is open. Just ring selections closed. I want to glue the wires down but I don't want to screw anything up. I used foam and a thin and thick layer of tissue paper and no avail. Are there any other ideas other than paying $75 to ship my phone in to the Motorola Service Center?
