I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best software would be for transfering java apps and ringtones from my pc to my Siemens s56. I have a serial cable and was able to upgrade to the v7 filmware but can't seem to have any luck with java and ringtone files. Any suggestions would be very helpfull.

You can't transfer data through the data cable due to restrictions United States carriers have decided should be in place with the S56.
The best way to transfer ringtones\apps to your phone is to use IrDA (like me) or to use Bluetooth.

What software would I use to transfer the files from my Pc to my phone using IrDA? Seems like everything I try doesn't support the s56, I have looked everywhere I can think of and so far I can't find any information.

once you install an IrDA adapter (or if an IrDA port is already on your system) there should be an icon on your desktop to send files to another computer. Drag whatever you want to send onto that icon, and it will send. Or just right-click on what you want to send, and go to "send to" and select "another computer"

I have had success on my Mac with Bluetooth. I presume that Windows would have a Bluetooth file transfer utility as well. BTW, I got a USB Bluetooth Dongle on eBay for $10. I had previously used an IRDA USB attachment and some cheap software that I had bought from eBay to do it on my Windows machine at work. If you search around on eBay you should be able to find either one.
Good luck.

I got my IrDA adapter off some site... www.meritline.com I think. I picked mine up for about $18, including shipping.
Actually, you shouldn't have to buy any software to transfer stuff to your phone. The software should be utliites whihc are already present in Windows.
