Originally posted by mbellot I have not tried this on XP, use these instructions at your own risk. WinRT adds USB support to Windows 95/NT for specific programs (like RSS), but it is apparently not needed for Win2K (and probably XP), it just interferes with the power settings. |

Originally posted by pw1981 Excellent. On the desktop, right click on My Computer. Choose 'Manage' from the drop-down menu. In the pane on the left side there is a section for "Device Manager". then follow the directions above for viewing hidden devices and such. Should work fine. It is possible that the school disabled these priviledges, but I doubt that if you cna install software they removed these rights. Give that a whirl. |

For anyone who wants to try, here is what I did under Windows 2000 on my laptop to get standby working - YMMV Control Panel Admin Tools Device Manager Up on the menu bar select View -> Show Hidden Devices Now in the device list scroll down until you see "Non-Plug and Play Drivers". Click the + to expand the list. Scroll to the bottom, you should see an entry that looks like "WinRT". Double click it. Click on the Driver tab, if the Current Status is "Started" then click Stop to stop the driver. In the Startup box select "Disabled". Click OK to exit the properties. If you go to the Power control you should now have Standby back. I have not tried this on XP, use these instructions at your own risk.
