Just wondering if anyone else ran into this problem where they installed RSS carrier .06 and lost the Standby mode in Win XP Pro.
(btw this was installed on my laptop).

If I install any of the RSS versions on my Thinkpad I loose all power management featurs. The standby and hibernate go away and it screws with the IBM proprietary stuff.

It doesn't seem to screw with that stuff on my desktop - just my laptop.

Its not just you

Yup, same thing with my Futiju laptop. The good thing is they come back if you un-install rss. Then just reinstall when you need it.

Same here, but I think I found the problem for my TP A31...

For anyone who wants to try, here is what I did under Windows 2000 on my laptop to get standby working - YMMV

Control Panel
Admin Tools
Device Manager

Up on the menu bar select View -> Show Hidden Devices

Now in the device list scroll down until you see "Non-Plug and Play Drivers". Click the + to expand the list.

Scroll to the bottom, you should see an entry that looks like "WinRT". Double click it.

Click on the Driver tab, if the Current Status is "Started" then click Stop to stop the driver.

In the Startup box select "Disabled".

Click OK to exit the properties.

If you go to the Power control you should now have Standby back.

I have not tried this on XP, use these instructions at your own risk.

WinRT adds USB support to Windows 95/NT for specific programs (like RSS), but it is apparently not needed for Win2K (and probably XP), it just interferes with the power settings.

I just did this on my TP R50p and it works like you described... all is well.

Power management works perfectly after I disabled the WinRT driver and RSS seems to function normally.

NICE WORK mbellot!

Excellent.

On the desktop, right click on My Computer. Choose 'Manage' from the drop-down menu. In the pane on the left side there is a section for "Device Manager". then follow the directions above for viewing hidden devices and such. Should work fine.

It is possible that the school disabled these priviledges, but I doubt that if you cna install software they removed these rights.

Give that a whirl.

Alright. Thanks for the help. I'll give it a try when I have a chance.

OMFG THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

I've been racking my brain as to why I ALWAYS lose power managemnt on my laptop, and couldn't think of anything that could be causing it, but thinking back, it always happens right after I load RSS.

It's gonna be fixed first thing when I get home. Now I can actually take my laptop places and use it without having to shutdown every time!!!!!!

I don't have the WinRT in my divice manager...Any ideas where it may be hiding??? Thanks!

You skipped a step....

You have to make it show the hidden devices first, then it will be there. If its not there, then the program was not installed right because it adds the component in install.

I also dont have WinRT in my list. I have followed every step. Is anyone aware of any other fixes? FYI, I checked the list before and after install and there were no new devices under non plug and play. Any help will be appreciated. It would be nice not to have to uninstall it everytime I use it.

Thanks,

Orlando
