very basic VX6000 cable/connectivity question

I've searched the forums and FAQs and read a great deal about cables, BitPim, etc., but I think I need someone to help me with a more basic overview. I just bought a VX6000 and I want to get a connectivity solution for it. In order of priority, I want to be able to:
1. download my Outlook contacts
2. synch to Outlook calendar
3. use the phone as a modem with my laptop
4. transfer tones and images
I am replacing a Nokia 6200 on ATTWS and I've enjoyed playing around with the Nokia connectivity software, but basically I'm looking for the easiest solution to do all the things I listed. I don't want to spend my evenings for the next week trying to troubleshoot a klugey solution.
What have you found to be the easiest solution (software and cable)? What solution offers the most features?
If I'm happy to pay the 40 bucks, is there any reason not to go with the Verizon Mobile Office package? I'm assuming it does all of the above (at least 1-3?), but I might be wrong. The fact that I can stop on the way home from work and pick one up is a big plus.
I realize this is a huge question. If anyone would enjoy answering it, I would be grateful. If it's too much to ask, I'll go back to piecing an answer together from reading all the various posts.
Thanks very much,
Dave
