for those having problems connecting their 8900 with bitpim, and/or brewsky...

ok, i just recently got a cable off ebay for my audiovox 8900 (one with a box in it) and it came with curitel drivers. i downloaded bitpim and brewsky, but neither of them would recognize my phone.
my computer would freak out - seeing and losing the usb cable. so what i had to do was to put pressure on the cable where it went into the phone, and that fixed that problem.

here's what i did to get my computer to recognize my phone....
first i installed the curitel drivers. then i plugged in the cable and phone, and it would say "found new hardware" "modem" "ports", after installing the drivers for them, the phone should show up in 3 different spots on the device manager (go to control panel, system, hardware, device manager). one as a usb controller, one under ports, and one under modems. and what i did just to be safe, is right click on each of these and "update drivers".
now your computer should stay stable and recognize the phone.
then install bitpim - now what i did is i went to settings, browse the comm port, and select the "curitel packet service" under available ports (mine was comm port 4), (not the diagnostic serial port)
then click ok and click on the " + " (filesystem) tab and then click log and after it changed the port speeds and stuff, you will know if it is connected if it says "now in brew mode" you are now connected
then install brewsky - and i had to select the same port as the curitel packet service, which was port 4 and WOUULLAAAHHH

this worked for me, and i hope it can help some of you guys out.

hmmm seems like a lot of work. I have the futridial drivers and just installed Brewskies, made sure my ports were the same and I was in my phone, took about 2 minutes

Pretzel, you rock!

Thanks, it helped.
I uploaded a ringtone, I got it in there.
I uploaded an image, it says it's there.. but I don't see it on the phone. Dunno what that is about.

But yes, the second time you do it, it doesn't happen. But you connect it with BitPim, disconnect it, and then try it with Brewsky, it works!

Thanks once again dude.

nice to see that it helped someone,
but about the wallpapers, what you have to do (if you have brew) is run brew, and look through it or whatever, then exit and it should be under menu-setting-display=graphics-wallpaper-downloads. or you might just have to reboot the phone, so yea

and i give all my thanks to bonch for making brewsky, it rocks

now all we need is a screen saver and game and app downloader!!

GIT R DUN

What's brew and how do I run brew?

(I know that Brew is like Java for cellphones these days, but that's all I know)

brew is like a phonebased application, that allows you to download apps, ringtones, and wallpapers. it is on the main menu, but some phones are not brew enabled. so my only guess would be to just reboot

Oh. no. I think I don't have it.

But either way, this sucks.

Now, in BitPim, in the ringtones folder, it used to show me my old ringtone "Shut up", when actually on my phone, there were these 2 new mp3 (disguised as .mids), and none was "Shut up", out of which one didn't even have a name!

And it gave a LOUD ringing sound.

I checked in Brewsky for the same, but in brewsky it showed just one of those 2 new mp3 ringtones. And ofcourse it won't let me delete it thru brewsky.

After I got done with the Analysis, I opened BitPim, and deleted the only showing old "Shut up" ringtone and then deleted the .PNGs I had uploaded earlier which were not seen ANYWHERE on the phone (God knows where they got disappeared, although brewsky and bitpim both say they see it on my phone, the fukers!).

Took off the cable, and nicely rebooted the phone. Uploaded newer tones (This time real .mids), and couple more newer .pngs. Rebooted like a good boy, and it's STILL LIKE THAT! ARGH!

What's going on?

PS: I'm posting this on bouch's thread too.

first off they are on youre phone if you uploaded them correctly. 2nd off youre phone has more option on some screens.
If you got settings/sounds/ringer type/ringer/ then arrow right 2 or 3 times. you will see the d/l tones

use the same principle for the wallpapers
I cant see my wallpapers until i reboot and go into brew then exit brew and they show up

Well, I've done that. No avail.

i tried out this program this morning after having success with bitpim, anyways i hooked up my phone got connected and ulploaded a few mp3's which didnt play.. and when i rebooted the phone played a simple ringer over and over even when the phone wasnt in play mode, or even open for that matter! so i hooke dup bit pim put my old download_send back on and deleted all the ringtones ih ad on there, and it went back to normal.. so im at work today and i notice that my phone keeps going into the sub lcd photo mode and keeps taking pictures on its own, also the trigger for the camera doesnt work and i noticed the end button no longer works either. please help.

I did the same thing, I just put the download_snd.txt back on. But none of the other stuff has happened (Touchwood, thank god).
