Problem with bitpim0.7.14 and LG4600

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: poler8tor

Ok, now I've gotten the stated cable, installed it no prob.

I'm using bitpim 0.7.14, and I have a Telus Mobility LG4600 phone (which supposedly this version of bitpim supports and is available)

I am able to pull my phone book down.

I am unable to pull/view any of my ringtones or wallpapers.
I am unable to upload any new entries in the phonebook, upload any ringtones, and while it does upload the wallpapers, I am unable to view them under the phones "wallpaper" folder. They just seem to hang.

What format do the pictures have to be in? What is the size?
I was using .bmp at 120x131 resolution (120 width, 131 height)

I've compared the files that I've uploaded to the existing wallpapers, and it looks like the preset ones are only 4-5kb in size, while mine are around 35-45kb in size... is that normal?

I need help with this! Any and all assistance greatly appreciated!

Hey, I've managed to streamline and resolve all issues, and have even posted a special step by step walkthrough on how to do everything.

Here's the link, and hope it helps, if not, email me.

Before we can troubleshoot it, tell me:

is your phone on or off when you're trying the connection?
what o/s do you have?
do you use a pda (and is it's docking station connected)?
which cable are you using? show me the link
have you tried to uninstall bitpim? remove all the usb drivers? and reinstall them from scratch?

Ok...

Now I believe the biggest issue you're having is that with LG (as far as I know) the cables are NOT interchangeable. Very big issue with cables.

I used this cable:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5715251557&rd=1

If yours is the same, I can continue to help out, if it's different.. then I think we're outa luck.

***It has to have that weird box in between the two cable ends. If it doesn't, you're S.O.L!!!***

sorry, you should have beening reading this forum first

most LG phones NEED that conversion chip, they do not work well on straight USB, they actually are RSC232 standard input.

when you look at the port settings in the phone.. most say rsc232 NOT USB..

the cable converts from USB to RSC232 serial the old standard

most new laptops don't have the older 9 pin DIN plug serial port on them.. they come with USB ports so when the Phone requires the OLD way , you have to use a 'conversion cable' not a striaght thru USB cable

I read a post that ( and i have also used this statement) that said LG phones have a poor implementation of USB..

actually my 4500 doesn't have USB, the port data says RSC232

I have found nothing in the manual or phone that says USB..

people start generalizing and then get qouted, and the misinformation gets confusing..

I have read some posts somewhere that some of the camera phones 6000 7000 ? can use a straight USB

certainly other phones from other manufactures do

Posted by: krazyVR6

I do have the cable with the box in the middle ro that square thing in the middle of the cable.... so it is correct. i just cant get it to read with my computer.

Posted by: l2iceboy

for the LG4600, i hook it up to my computer, install the drivers, open up bitpim, but doesn't find it, gives something like a "phone not responding while transitioning from none to brew" i think, do i have to change any settings on my phone? like under "data-in" do i change the "connection"? to say "fax" or "data-in"? or juss leave everything alone? because my computer cannot read my phone.

And if possible, can someone email me their drivers, or if it's bigger than 1MB, can someone send me a link? because i think it's possible my drivers are corrupted or not the correct ones.

Posted by: krazyVR6

can you do the same for me, as mine is not workinas well.

Posted by: poler8tor

Ok people! I didn't know so many of us were having problems with the LG4600.

I've actually uploaded the USB drivers that came with my cable, now since they work, I know they're not corrupt, so if this doesn't work for you... there may be other things.

Another thing...
if you use the futuredial cable, I have read somewhere that it doesn't always work well, until you update from futuredials website. The original post is somewhere here on Howardforums... I just don't remember where.... so keep reading the posts, and eventually you'll find them.

Here is the drivers, as promised.

sorry...i cant access the link that you sent?!

I have the vx4400, a futuredial cable, and bitpim 0.62. It works fine for me.

This is what I did:

Bought futuredial cable specifically for the 4400 from radioshack.

went to futurelink's website and dl'd their usb drivers for free. You can get the drivers on cd with the cable, but that's like $30 more.

I installed the usb drivers, plugged the cable in with the phone on, and it detected everything.

I use an old dell inspirion a366 laptop to connect to my phone. It has 1 usb port and windows xp, and it works fine.

For you other guys, make sure you post the EXACT error message. Copy and paste is best. Make sure your cable is specifically for your phone. If it doesn't work, take it back and try a different brand of cable. Make sure to get the proper usb drivers for the cable. Also, check to see if the phone is listed as a modem in windows.

ok i got the 4600 phone and the future USB cable and the future link drivers. and the bitpim and i can connect but when i go to the -filesystem tab > usr i dont get the same list as you did in your tut. Got any ideas?? and i was wondering if i could just make new folders under usr??

Posted by: poler8tor

What do you get under the usr tab?

A couple of things....

a) did you choose the telus lg4600 phone under the settings? have you tried the 4500?

b) futuredial cables and connections are different than the OEM ones that I used! I've read somewhere here that you need to do some funky moves with futuredial cables to get them to work.

If you create folders under usr (as far as I'm aware of, you're just wasting your time/phone space)

You can create folders under the subcategories, and if the phone can use them, then you can see them there.

Hope this clears the muddy waters for ya!

Posted by: fourthe

good news i just keep messing around with it. i went to the wall paper tab and click add and send data to phone under the 4500 and it worked Now do you know upbout uploading games??

Posted by: abakja1

Try this as I had same communications problem,..

Check that all the USB drivers you installed arent conflicting or negating one another,..

When I went searching for all USB drivers and installing them, I figured my computer was still using the 1st driver I installed,..So what I did was "remove" all USB drivers and started one by one,..Luckily the USB driver from FutureDial worked for me,...http://www.cellularaccessory.com/lgvx6000usb.html

When I loaded the driver then rebooted and then plugged in my LG 6000, I got a prompt asking what phone I am using and what provider,..

after that,..smooth sailing,..

Now, how do I load my games on my LG with BITPIM .70? And I found out not all wallpapers loaded nor all the ringtones either,..not sure if its a space problem or not, but this is my 3 day at hacking at this problem,..

I hooked up the usb cable on both my P4 laptop and my desktop....both cannot recognize the usb...for some reason it says the following...

One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.

i need the right drivers for this usb cable for both the LG 4600 and the 5450...

the usb installer provided on the website does NOT work...someone help me!

Posted by: fourthe

what cable do you have??

Posted by: poler8tor

Hey Krazy...

Did you check out the drivers that I have posted? and then reposted? You're error description generally relates to either the USB data cable failing, or you needing to update your USB controllers from your motherboard manuf.

Posted by: krazyVR6

poler8tor,

I did! and i sent you an email to your email address asking you if you can send me the link, as I cannot open it! Thanks for your help.

I am pretty sure it is just the driver, as i have tried it on 3 different computers and it doesnt read.

Posted by: poler8tor

Hope you got the email stating that your hotmail account is rejecting the upload!

Microsoft... and all it's wonderful products.. sheesh!

Posted by: krazyVR6

so with that cable that you posted in the step by step process that you did, you had no problems and it worked and did everything? also did it come with the softwares?

Posted by: poler8tor

Hey!

Someone else replied to me in regards to that cable(from this forum), and I bought it on that person's recommendation!

It came with the drivers on a CD, and I installed it on my XP sp1 machine without the slightest difficulties. The drivers are the only software that actually comes with the CD/cable. For the actual transferring/editing/managing software, I just downloaded the latest version of the Bitpim program!

Once I did that, the procedures that I've posted have become tried and true multiple times.

Posted by: krazyVR6

Sounds good! so that exact one in your step by step process is the exact one you got. i only want to buy something that has been tried and tested and functioning. if you say it is I will defenitely get it!

Posted by: poler8tor

No problem.
I was exactly the same way. I asked, posted, and someone said they got the exact same cable (from bargain cell I believe) and I bought it from them the same day. No worries.

Posted by: krazyVR6

hey how do you change the view of your computer to not read the jpg of the file/wallpaper you need to rename so that it doesnt have jpg at the end of it?

Posted by: poler8tor

I'm not too sure I understand what you're asking me.
Do you mean to say, how do you change the extension of the jpg file under the windows view (so that you can change the name to "body", without any extensions?)

To do that, all you need to do is highlight the file in your window, press F2 on your keyboard, and just retype the letters "B O D Y" and then press Enter. When your o/s asks if you're sure you want to change the properties, just say yes.

It also works the same way when you're going in reverse.

Hope this helps! If not, please clarify!

Posted by: krazyVR6

thanks that is what i mean!

I must be really that computer illiterate. Not sure how to do that! I understand what your saying but how do you highlight the file in windows? so i have to save it on my desktop?

Posted by: poler8tor

Yes, all you really need to do is find the file using your windows navigation...

So if it's saved in a folder called MyDocuments, go into that folder, and you'll see it there with a different graphic (thats 1 way of telling 1 file from another... Microsoft assigns different icons to different types of files)

Then just click on it 1x (so its blue/highlighted) and do what I mentioned.

If you need help, and you use yahoo messenger, you can find me/and or request to talk with me realtime... my id is snowcap_lg

Hope it helps!

Posted by: krazyVR6

i cant seem to get my yahoo to work.....but where are some of the sites where you can get ring tones and wallpapers for free?

and then how do you save those ring tones or wallpapers to somewhere in your computer?

thanks for all the help, by the way!

Posted by: poler8tor

Theres quite a few websites scattered throughout these postings regarding links for music/graphics. You'll just have to go through the posts.

Don't worry if they're for different phones. Graphics are Graphics. And Ringtones are Ringtones.... whether you're using an LG4600, LG5450, or Motorola V300/400/600 or Samsung... it really doesn't matter.

Once you find the one you want, just right click on the image/sound file and choose save to disk.

Posted by: krazyVR6

that hex decimal binary conversion site does not work anymore, would you know how else to convert it , to to translate it to work on my phone?

Posted by: poler8tor

If the hex-converters website is down, there are other ways.

Actually, I've stopped using that converter altogether. If you have windows 2000 or xp, and you know how to open the Calculator... you have to open it as a "scientific calculator" (or in advanced mode)...
Then all you'd need to do is type in the number, and click the button in top-left that says "HEX" and it automatically converts the decimal number to hex. However you have to remember to keep switching between hex and decimal.

Posted by: krazyVR6

thanks....you have any cool pics and ringtones, already modified?

Posted by: poler8tor

Yes, I've got lots, altho I don't think I have any that are posted online!

Posted by: krazyVR6

can you shoot some my way..? if so can you email them to me at andrew.drapiza@gmail.com
