i really really really need a program that converts qcp to wav or mp3 and purevoice does not work. pleaes someone help me. this is for my job.

As far as I know, if you didn't set your phone up to record in native qcp format, then you can't convert it. Sorry.

You could hold the phone up to a microphone...

Moved to the ringtone/wallpaper forum.

Please don't double post.

Purevoice is capable of converting QCP to WAV. It was created by Qualcomm specifically for this purpose- WAV<->QCP.

Is it possible that you are overlooking something?

Posted by: c104thecore

no, i load my sound and it wont play at all or convert. it gives me an error when i try to play it. does it work for u people with xp professional?

This has been discussed before, I am pretty sure of. At least the whole error message and all of that stuff. So if you looked a bit you would see what was found out and could relate it to your problem.

But, on the note of it being brought up again, someone DID find a way to get by that darned TIA whatever codec error. I would link you, but the boards require you to be a member to view. It's on AeonnFluux... I will just quote the man who found it out...

I figured it out!! First of all, as qualcomm says on their CDMA website:

Q: I recorded a QCP file on my cellphone, but it seems to use some other
codec besides PureVoice. The PureVoice player complains about an
unsupported codec, "TIA IS-127 Enhanced Variable Rate Codec, Speech
Service Option 3 ". Does Qualcomm or the PureVoice SDK support this
codec, and if so how can I obtain that version?

A: This codec, commonly called "EVRC", along with a few other codecs which
are supported in the QCP file format, contains the intellectual
property of other companies, which requires licensing from their
respective owners. Qualcomm licenses these technologies for
its own use, but does not pass these licenses onto the users of the
free PureVoice software. Please contact your service provider or
carrier, to inquire about support for codecs such as this one.

You can't really read EVRC encoded files with out much hassle.

So, let's avoid it. After much futzing, I figured out that you CAN switch the phone to not use that codec when recording conversations (and voicemails). Here's how:

(NOTE: You don't need to do this to be able to read files recorded by going to Menu>7>4, this is only to be able to decode memos recorded during a phone conversation)

Step 1: Get to the service menu: Menu>0>Service Code (normally 00000)

Step 2: Choose Field Tests>Voice SO

Step 3: From this menu you will need to change all four settings to the following.
EVRC Capable: False
Home Page: 13K QCELP
Home Origin: 13K QCELP
Roam Origin: 13K QCELP

I would think that only EVRC Capable (stands for Enhanced Variable Rate Codec) would need to be false, but the other settings need to be changed as well.

Step 4: Clear out of all of the menus, make a call, and clear all numbers out of the screen that you have dialed since placing the call so you just see the time and the number you called originally (I.E. If you call your voice mail by dialing *86, and then # and your password, you will need to press the clear key repeatedly to get rid of the # and your password so that you only see the time and *86 on the screen.)

Step 5: Press the right hot key (Actions) and then Record. You can either go back to Actions and choose Stop Recording or end the call to stop recording.

Step 6: Get the recording from your phone using BitPim. To do so, simply access the Filesystem tab and navigate to VoiceDB>All>Memos, right click on the .qcp file that is your recording, and click Save.

Step 7: Download either PureVoice or the PureVoice converter from this page:
http://www.cdmatech.com/solutions/p...ce_download.jsp

Step 8: Now play/convert the recording depending on whichever program you downloaded. Best of all, the settings seem to stay changed after rebooting the phone. Enjoy!

everytime i try to open it, i see the options on the black dos screen but it disappears, does this happen to anybody else and do you know how i can fix it?

Posted by: berlinbullet

you use the converter from the command line prompt. just take a look at the readme, which you should have done before posting this.. But hey, we all make mistakes. Have at it, tiger.

Posted by: c104thecore

i read the manual and it didn't help. i put the file lmao.qcp in my c: and i wanna convert it to wav! help me please the program is working, i just need to know the commands.

Usage: PVConv infile [outfile]
infile : PCM wav or qcp file to convert
outfile : qcp or wav file
outfile is an optional field. Without outfile specified, the same file name
with an appropriate suffix will be used to save the converted file.

Straight from the readme. I can't think of what else you would need to know... Umm... Make sure you have the pvconv.exe in the directory with your QCP is the only other thing I can think off. I am assuming you do know how to open a Dos prompt and navigate it to where you need to be from what you said about just needing the commands...

Posted by: c104thecore

i did these commands and they are both in the same directory

pvconv lmao.qcp [lmao.wav]

it then says

Error: Input File is not a valid wav or qcp file

so then i try this

pvconv lmao.qcp [c:/]

and then it says the same error again.

Posted by: c104thecore

i had been making copies of the file the whole time. it needs to tell you that the thing was made successfully. sorry guys.

Posted by: HyToFry

You do realize that you have to change your phone's settings, and then rerecord the clip... right...?

Posted by: c104thecore

already did that. everything works nows. thanks guys.

Okay, I have a question. What about when you're recording a voice mail by using the memo feature. Whenever I try to convert, or use the purevoice player I get an error. I turned the EVRC off... but the one on player still mentions the EVRC (option 3). In the converter it says codec not supported by this library. Any ideas?

Hi all,

I know this thread is old, but I've had it saved on my laptop because this occasionally drives me nuts! I've had FOUR LG VX-6000 phones (first one was defective, second one I "played" a little too much with BitPim ;-), third one got wet (well, fell in a public restroom toilet!) and knock wood I've had my fourth since August).

The first and second phones lasted a combined total of about two weeks. On the third, I followed the steps given by berlinbullet, and all worked perfectly. HOWEVER, on my fourth (current) phone, I followed the instructions exactly as I did with my third phone, and no matter what, I still get the same error messages.

I finally gave up, and in a moment of desperation, figured out a (duh!) workaround. Don't know why I didn't think of it sooner, nor if it's been mentioned here, but I feel rather thick for not coming up with it long ago.

Anyhow, I already own a cable like this:

from Radio Shack , but it's "gold" like this one .

I then bought a stereo (1/8") to mono (3/32") adapter:

connected my phone to that, the cord to "line in" on my laptop, and recorded my saved memos and recorded calls (as they were playing) using MusicMatch. I had been using this method for quite some time (minus the 3/32" to 1/8" adapter) to record info from cassette tapes played back on my Walkman.

I don't know why this never occurred to me before , but I guess all that matters is that I can do it now.

I actually bought three different 1/8" to 3/32" converters. The stereo --> stereo only recorded in one speaker. The stereo --> mono worked perfectly, and the mono --> mono is still unopened.

Don't know if this will help anyone, but since I gave up! I thought I'd pass it along.
.
