I am wondering what kind of reception you have been getting on your Treo 600 as oppossed to the cellphones it replaced? Please tell who your carrier is also.

Wirelessly posted (Treo 600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 95; PalmSource; Blazer 3.0) 16;160x160)

My Treo replaces a Nokia 6310i (both from Rogers, both being used on Fido). I find the reception fine. Everywhere I had reception before I have reception now - even in basements. I used my Treo in Philadelphia in a location that I was unable to get coverage using my 6310i and I got reception - probably 850 Mhz though (there is no way to specify 1900 only).

Speaking of replacing a Nokia...

All the Nokias i've had all emitted that buzzing sound if you listen closely enough. I'm in a 1900 MHz-only area (California).

I'd hate to fall in love with the Treo 600 only to find the buzzing or other odd noises in the background! Any such thing with the Treo?

There is a very common complaint about buzzing on the treo. It is caused by an unshielded battery cable. The fix require you to open the treo and shield the cable with tin foil. It isn't hard to do and there are instructions available on the forum at mytreo.net . It seems that some units have the problem while others do not. I did the fix on mine (it took about 10 minutes and it wasn't very difficult) thinking that the sound could use some improvement. It made a huge difference - I can't understand how palm could release a device with such an obvious problem.
That all said, I love my Treo.

my rogers treo 600 is perfect and amazing, too bad its missing bt (lol) but its great nonetheless

The Treo 600 is one of the top rated phones in Sprint's lineup regarding signal. If you're looking to get one for Verizon, I wouldn't worry about it. The CDMA radio components are identical between the two models so provided you have decent coverage, you should get a good signal.

My phones before the Treo 600 were the Treo 300 and LG Touchpoint 3000 before that.

OMG... OMG.... (jumping up and down with joy)

First, I don't have the kind of cash lying around to plunk down on a new Treo, so if I DID, I want to be 100% sure if my #1 Nit Pick is addressed.

So imagine my joy scouring the myTreo.net forum and finding a dedicated thread to the issue of BUZZING.

I'm glad to have read (as a non-Treo owner) that (1) it is an identified issue, and (2) there's an EFFECTIVE FIX for it... with photos, to boot!

So as I continue to debate getting a Treo, I wonder to myself if I can find a similar fix for my buzzing Nokia 8890? Hm....

Thanks guys!

Reception is pretty darn good, almost as good as my Nokia 6590i (which has awesome reception).

Heh.. yeah... I've got a 6590i in my stockpile- except it makes that horrible buzzing sound! I'd use it if it weren't for that.

no exposed battery cable to wrap in foil, I'm afraid!

Before I bought my Treo I heard people comparing the reception to the nokia 3650.

The reception isn't bad but I don't think its as good as a 3650. The reception for me is about average to a bit above average.

I'm more worried about audio crud (hissing, popping, buzzing) in the background if I got a Treo 600. For this reason, my V60gi is really good for this.

I've had my Treo 600 on Sprint now for about 6 months.. The reception has been great. It replaced an AT&T Panasonic GU87 which is a great phone but AT&T GSM service really sucked at the time. It may be better now since the upgrades.

It wouldn't make me switch back. I love my Treo, I used to carry a phone and a Palm. Now to have all that functionality in one device is awesome.

Since I signed up for the unlimited data plan ($15.00). I have loved it even more. There is an app called PDANet that allows me to surf the web on my laptop connected to my Treo that would blow away ANY dial-up connection.

I'm not sure if you're asking because you're thinking of buying one or if you're just comparing features and services but if you're thinking of buying, it's been the best tech decision I've made in a while.

Wait for a sale... Also, I've heard that CDMA/TDMA is more stable with this phone than the GSM models. (I've only *heard* this so I would advise you do your own investigation) Also, I do not seem to have the buzzing issue on Sprint that others have reported.

it is a known issue and you can return defective units for repair or replacement
