Better Than Bitpim!!! Soo Cool

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: blazer380

Wow... i have done it! There is something WAY better than BitPim! Its the official software used by Qualcomm to mess with their phones. I tried this on a LG VX7000 Phone

Download it here:

WAREZ LINK REMOVED.

its 7.19 MB

To put files on and off including ANIMATED GIFS, here are the instructions:

im soo happy ... omg... ok.. u install this program QPST.
then plug in your phone to USB cable into PC

then go to Start > Programs > QPST > QPST Configuration

then click on Ports Tab: u will see com1 and com2
click on Add and type in COM4 for both places
it will then show COM4 Enabled and will show your phone info
Close that and go back to Start > Programs > QPST > EFS Explorer

Then it will show your phone, click OK
u will see Please Wait..... takes 10 seconds
Then u will see the directory just like in Brew.
Go to dload/img
Rightclick in there and choose New
pick the animated gif file and say ok
After that, go to dload dir and delete image.dat
close EFS explorer
Turn off / on your phone
Go to wallpapers, and set the new gif as wallpaper
AND VOILA!!!!

NOTE : If you close EFS Explorer, it will say something like, Do you want to reset your phone, just Say YES, and it will reboot your phone.

i'm going to take a guess and say it's for the vx7000
would you mind clarifying it

Posted by: blazer380

i'm sure it supports all Qualcomm phones.. at least the latest ones... just dont quote me on that... I will try this on the VX6000 later 2nite when my roommate gets home.

Posted by: wewsnu

Great find

Thanks!!

Posted by: djkym

how's lg and qualquam related in terms of the vx6000 and vx7000?

Posted by: Dzny5

Anyone figure out if this works for the VX6000 yet?
Sounds like a good one!!!

Posted by: ekemner

COOL, SCREW GIN!!!!!!!!

Posted by: JayDaFly12

yea i just tired it and its works..but mine works on com3 not 4...its pretty neat...

Posted by: lilbyrdie

Poor qualcomm. It's like having your privates exposed. This tool, in fact, will work on any phone that uses the qualcomm chipsets. That's a pretty big leak.

Oh well... not my problem.

Posted by: blazer380

i just set this as my Front LCD wallpaper.... soo cool! (VX7000)

YOU HAVE THE V710 AND IT USES THE QUALCOMM CHIPSET SO IT SHOULD WORK THERE ALSO.

Posted by: sdcajack

It seems to work for the VX4500... but doesn't appear to solve the memory leak problem with uploaded graphics.

I had to use COM5 for the port (that's the port the install program chose when setting up the USB-to-serial driver for the data cable). It takes several seconds to recognize the phone once you choose the correct port, btw.

And on the VX4500, the image index file that must be deleted is titled "brewImageIndex.map", not "image.dat".

Thats the part I'm not quite following. Could someone please explain this for the VX6000.

On a side note. I would Like to thank everyone for thier tutorials and helpful information. This is my first cell phone and you've made it easy for me to change things on it.

Does it work with the Moto T720? Does the Moto T720 use a Qual chipset?

Sweeeeeeeeeet. Thanks.

Posted by: freeza

Great program!

bitpim is still very good though.

this allows me to delete directories that bitpim doesn't support

i wasn't aware of how slow the animated gifs were..on this phone...not even worth it.

Posted by: bai1

ayyyeee

Posted by: wes000

Just downloaded this program. What else can you do with this? I have never hacked a phone b4 so please be kind and dont flame me.!! I will get the data cable tomorrow.

Posted by: dark96

Yeah I was wondering the same thing.

Posted by: dark_welchs

QPST is the best program so far.
You can actually upload movies and ringtones.
I have LG-SD330 (2MP phone), and I use this program to upload movies and ringtones. If you have a SD card reader, you don't really need this program to upload movies, but I don't have it.

QPST shows ESN numbers, so becareful with that. If that ESN is changed, your phone might not work.

I heard QPST can upload games too. But I don't know how. Does anyone know how to upload games to your phones?

Posted by: Zyxwv88

Well, I'm still trying to figure out how to upload anything at all with it, but it is a pretty decent program.

One thing that is really useful is that you can change your SPC lock code with it. Some providers, like US Cellular change your lock code. I *think* that you can figure out the lock code with bitpim and then use QPST to change it back to the default if you want.

Doesn't work as well as it could with the LG 5550, but it's still decent. Doesn't show nearly as much info as the other phones do by far.

Don't think I'd give up bitpim for it though. I'm just adding it to my collection of cool programs.

Posted by: voidunknown

I can upload stuff to my T720 with this, but i cannot access it on the phone. Does anyone know why? Is there some kind of better tutorial? I cant find the "image.dat" file he speaks of in the instructions here. HELP!

Posted by: themopedwhiz

9min 12 secs not bad for 7.2 meg file coming from .ru

lg4500 ,MOK ,venturi, tweak master , DAP

106.4 kbps avg

can't way to try this out.. tommorow when i'm wide awake

Posted by: naturefreak85

can you download from the phone? like with my 7000 can i download the images and video's from the phone?

Posted by: forvx6000

THis software work only with serial port or it's work with USB port too.

I try with my phone but my system not allow me to use com3 and com4 it's say this port is not working proprly or it's busy.

And i try with com5 , 6 .7 .8 but i don't see my phone information on this port .

I using vx6000 .

i have a usb cabel for my phone

my phone work with bitpim preety good.

When go setting on bitpim it's show com6
port for lg driver

Posted by: K2`

does this work with the LG4600? i dunno if its a qualquam phone

When you run it, you can use the configure app to add as many com ports as you want on whatever com port numbers you need. With enough phones and enough USB drivers, you'll eventually start seeing phones on "COM34" and other such numbers. Beyond the first 4, you have to add them to QPST.

Hope that helps...

And to the other person... if it's a CDMA phone and it's _not_ Nokia it will have a QUALCOMM chipset in it. The only reason it wouldn't work is if the phone is too new for this particular version of QPST.

And yes, it does work on the v710. That said, no, I don't have the v710 yet. It's still wishful thinking.

You can't change the ESN with it, either. You can completely damage a phone, though, so do be careful.

Posted by: Zyxwv88

Only partially works with the 5550. Can't use the file browser at all. It will display the directories, but it gives lots of error messages and skips all the files themselves.

It only gives about 1/3 of the information that it shows for other phones in the system section.

I noticed that on the Audiovox 8410 that you can bump the volume up higher than you can get in the phone menus, but then when you change the volume on the phone, it resets it to the lower volume. Almost useful since the 8410 is too quiet, but it sucks because if you accidentally bump the side button that sets volume, then it's going to go quieter again.

from what i understood i thought the 3589i had a qualcomm chipset....because they finally gave into vzw for the CDMA phone, am i wrong?

I like this program better than bitpim... but I cant get putting mp3 ringers on my phone with this to work.... i tried uploading it to the user/sound/ringer directory and to the mms/sound directory ... restarted the phone... and it doesn't show up with the rest of the ringers I have... did I forget to do something?

Posted by: Zyxwv88

Just uploading a ringer won't make it work. There is a file that lists all your ringtones, so if you want to use the qualcomm program, you have to download the file, modify it, upload it again, AND upload the ringer.

Bitpim does this automatically. That's the reason that I say that although this is a cool program, it isn't going to replace bitpim for me, since bitpim avoids all the manual work involved.

Posted by: Msta Phatso

can someone please tell me how ot install this and how to use it. i ijnstalled it tehn i go to the configuration and i put COM4. it shows up and it says no phone. i put all the COMS and still it says no fone. and my fone is on and connected to my computer. SOMMMEEONE PLLAEASSEE HELP!!

Posted by: Goldmember2

this is awesome.

quick note

the phone rebuilds the image.dat and the sound.dat file when u remove them. u have to take these out as others mentioned so the phone will be forced to review and rebuild the file which will then make the stuff you just added show up.

kudos for finding this.

Posted by: Saerian

I have the vx6000, there are no .dat files like that... i went to the download directory and deleted the mms.map files that the phone rebuilt when I restarted, but after the restart none of the mp3 ringers were there anymore, not even the ones that had been there previously through bitpim, though the files are still there on the phone... maybe you can't do it on the vx6000?

Posted by: themopedwhiz

this program is ok.. and according to the readme and help files it works with older qualcomm phones like qcp 860.. i was using up to last month

but i tried it on my lg vx4500 and it doesn't show me anymore than bitpim. it won't even hex dump a file on the screen to view it.

i may play with it some more, but so far i like bitpim better

a side note FYI

qualcomm sold their cell phone line several years ago 'koycera'

they kept the patents on all the new technology they were developing..

our verizon phones are built on qualcomm technology ( chipsets ) regardless of who is mfg. them ..

to my knowledge qualcomm doesn't built the LG phones they just sell them the chips and licensceing of the patent use, same for samsung and motorola

Posted by: Zyxwv88

Really? I'll have to try that. I have heard how brittle the audiovox software is and how easy it is to screw up the phone, so I haven't tried that.

As far as how to get the program to work, the easiest way it to go into the Windows Device Manager and check ports to see what port your phone is using, then make sure that the phone is plugged in before running the Qualcomm software. Have it check the port that you verified, and you should be set. Oh, and that configuration thing is the main program to be running to get the thing to work.

I do it with mine all the time.

Just delete all the map files in that directory, pull the battery off. Replace the battery. turn the phone back on.
viola.

Posted by: bai1

its that easy.

Posted by: Dzny5

OK. .. so does this let you put GIFS on your phone or not?
I have a VX 6000. Does it make them go REALLY slow or does it look half way decent?

Posted by: myzteariouz

how hard is it to add a ringtone on the vx7000? just got the phone and wanting to add some ringtones. could someone post up how?

Posted by: ziggie216

what's the max size of the animated gif

Posted by: coverthawk

Question for using this with a Motorola v710:

Was able to connect with the software, but when I open the explorer program, an error pops up that the directory is not found and is either not readable or not standard...anybody have an idea how the directory structure of Motorola's works? Just a "\" doesn't seem to work.

Thanks in advance!

Posted by: Mattjr42

cant get it to work with my vx6000 on com 5

Posted by: Zyxwv88

It didn't work that way for my Audiovox 8410. I had ringtones in the /user/sound/ringer folder, and then I deleted the download-snd and the others like it in the /db folder. The phone did rebuild them, but it rebuilt them blank, without any references to the files in the /user/sound/ringer folder. From the looks of it, I do need to manually modify the download-snd file to find the stupid ringtones like I said earlier, unless there is some trick I'm missing.

Yes, I rebooted phone and took out battery, yes it rebuilt file, bit it was blank.

Posted by: voidunknown

My Moto T720 does not have "image.dat" or "mms.map" files on it. Does anyone know what files i need to delete so the phone will recognize the new tones and images i put on it?

Posted by: al627

I downloaded the program and installed it. When I add COM4 it does not rsee my phone (LG 4400B) I have Verizon as a carrier.
I hook the phone up using the USB data cable. Any help out there.

Posted by: MikeDarnell

Can someone with an LG VX6000 phone write out a step by step process for this? I have followed the original instructions for all phones, and then found someone that said to delete all the files in the download index, removed the battery, everything and nothing has worked.

I have attempted all these instructions or anything i have found on this thread with LG phones and the animated gif's will still not show up in my graphics folder for me to select.

Anthing someone can write out would be helpful for an LG VX6000 phone.

Thanks

Posted by: Dzny5

If you delete image.dat and sound.dat files will it still work with bitpim also? I really don't want to delete anything until I know if I really like the new program and how do I get those back if I don't?

Posted by: Saerian

I downloaded the mms.map files to my comp before I deleted them for good... I then deleted the files, turned the phone off, took the battery out, put it back in, powered it on, and all the regular ringtones were there, just not the mp3 ones. Has anyone had luck with it? I just like the interface of this program better than bitpim and would rather use it. Thanks !

Posted by: Zyxwv88

Ok, I think that most phones are NOT rebulding the file to include the ringtones when you upload them.

If you can't upload you ringtones and get them to work with this program, then why in the heck are you using it, instead of bitpim which does a better job of it?

Most phones will need to manually change the index file that keeps track of the ringtones.

Although this program is cool, and it does let you make a lot of changes that you can't make with bitpim, I still think that for ringtones, contacts, wallpaper, and calendar, that Bitpim is still going to be the best program.

And Mike, Bitpim handles the 6000 really well, so I'd strongly suggest using it rather than screwing around manually with the files.

I think most people having problems getting the phone to be seen, just aren't having it look on the right port. If you aren't 100% sure that it's checking the right port, then it probably isn't. Plug the phone in, then open the program. Sometimes when you do the reverse, the program locks the com port that the phone would normally use and it bumps up to a higher com port number.

Posted by: blazer380

ok.. sorry for taking so long to reply, but i have been banned for 2 days for flaming.... (people cant take a joke these days).

This tutorial is only suggested for VX6000 and VX7000 phones.

anyways, here is what I found works so far:

NOTE: Some people have found that other ports work, so just keep adding ports until one of them works for you. COM1, COM2, .... COM10
I doubt you can get anything higher than COM10.
Make sure you have the LG USB drivers installed for the VX6000 Phone which you can download from HERE
On the right side click "USB Modem Driver Download"
Save it to your desktop and run it.
Then plug in your phone after installation is complete.

with VX7000 phone:

a) you can transfer animated gifs into your images directory, then delete images.dat (this will reset all your Caller ID images). Then reboot your phone and you will have the animated gifs in your phone.

NOTE: The animation on the images IS slower. The simpler the animation and the smaller the size of the gif file, the faster the animation is. Also, do not set animated gifs as Caller ID images, since they dont work.

b) you can also transfer mp3s into your snd directory without using the Overwrite method. If you do it this way, you have to delete sounds.dat, and that will reset your Caller ID ringers. So for this particular phone, I suggest sticking with BitPim and using the Overwrite method, so you dont have to delete and reset sounds.dat

NOTE: The VX 7000 phone can handle mp3 files. You DONT have to rename them to .mid

c) With this program you can transfer any file from your phone to your computer

with VX6000 phone:

NOTE: you can transfer animated gifs to this phone, but they will NOT show the animation once it on your phone, you will only see the first frame of the gif.

a) with this program, you can put mp3s into the phone, but first you need to rename the .mp3 to .mid
then you can put them into the user/sound/ringer folder
Then go to download/dloadindex and delete the 3 *RingerIndex.map files
Then reboot your phone, and you can now use the new ringers.
NOTE: Deleting the .map files will reset your Caller ID ringers.

b) adding images (gif, jpg, bmp) to your phone:
go to Brew/Shared/mms
and upload your images into this directory from your PC
Then go into download/dloadindex and delete the 3 *ImageIndex.map files
Then reboot your phone, and you can now use the new images (they will be found in menu > 7 > 1.
NOTE: Deleting the .map files will reset your Caller ID images.

It is usually 000000 or 123456 or 719533 or 236197 or 654321

also try

111111
222222
333333
444444
555555
666666
777777
888888
999999

Posted by: 6070guy

Thanks, but it turns out that Telus is one of the companies that changes the SPC when the phone is activated.

However, a little digging solved the problem. The file /nvm/nvm_0000 contains the new code in plain ascii text. Nothing could be simpler.

Posted by: blazer380

just a side note, the LG USB drivers for the VX6000 Phone also work for VX7000. I havent tried it on any other phone besides those 2.

Posted by: blazer380

for future posts, if this worked for you, can you please post how you got it to work so everyone can try that too.

Please include in your post:

Your Phone Model: (VX6000, VX7000, etc)
Your Service: (Verizon, Cingular, etc)
Where you purchased your USB cable: (www.whatever.com, ebay, verizon, etc)
Did you use the VX6000 USB Drivers? (Yes or No)
If No for those drivers, where did you get your USB drivers (www.whatever.com)
Can you use BitPim successfully? (Y or N)
Can you use QPST/ESF Explorer successfully? (Y or N)
If Yes for QPST, what Port did you use? (COM4, COM5, etc)
Any other suggestions: (whatever)

Posted by: Zyxwv88

Ok, here is some info for some of you having problems, since I'm getting tired of all the same questions.

When you get your phone working, it will be installed on a particular com port, and it WILL VARY FROM COMPUTER TO COMPUTER. Just because Joe used Com 2 doesn't mean that you will. Heck, I think on my system I'm on com 11, and on my laptop it's sometimes been com13. (been plugging lots of phones in).

To find out what com port you are using, you can either use bitpim (check with user info for that, because I'm too lazy to repeat how to use it), or you can go into the device manager and check ports (for the LG phones), or modems (for the Audiovox phones). The Audiovox phones place both a port, which won't work for what we do, and a modem which is curitel packet services or something like that.

You can change the port if you need to, although make sure you aren't conflicting with anything else if you do that.

Once you know what your port is, then open the Q software configuration. By default, it only looks on port 1 and 2, so you will probably need to add whatever port your phone uses. MAKE SURE YOU PLUG THE PHONE IN BEFORE YOU START THE SOFTWARE. More than half the time, if you plug the phone in after the software is started, it won't detect the phone, or it will force the phone onto a different port that the software isn't checking.

At this point, if you did everything correctly, you should see your phone show up and you can make your changes that you need to. Make sure that you aren't trying to run bitpim or brewsky, or any other similar program at the same time, since only one program can access a com port at the same time. If you are having problems getting it to show, then I would suggest trying to connect with bitpim. If you can't connect with bitpim, then you probably don't have drivers installed, or don't have the correct drivers, or you have something screwed up that isn't going to let you use any program at all to connect to your phone and you'd better get it fixed before you try to work with this program.

As a general suggestion, I would strongly encourage people to not try to start with the qualcomm software, because the connections on it aren't as easy or intiutive as bitpim, so it's easier to screw up if you don't know what you are doing. Once you know you are working with bitpim or brewsky or something, then give this software a try using the same com port.

And one more time I will emphasize YOU MUST CHECK TO SEE WHAT PORT YOUR PHONE IS ON. IT WILL BE DIFFERENT FOR MOST COMPUTERS. It doesn't matter if 99% of the people on the board end up on com4, you may end up using com 5 or 6 depending on your system configurations.

There are a lot of things that use com ports. Serial mouse, modem, the serial ports in back, bluetooth, Infrared, cell phones, and more. Depending on what your system has.

Not to be rude here, but if you aren't bright enough to figure out what com port you are on, despite instructions, just make sure com 1 through 8 are added and you should be fine. The software does say it can watch up to 8 com ports at the same time, and most people won't have their phone on a com port above 8 (although as I mentioned, mine are on higher ports)

Posted by: MikeDarnell

Can anyone vouch on if this program works for adding mp3's to an Audiovox 8900 phone and if so, list a step by step for that particular phone?

Posted by: Githon

Soooo... who'll be porting this nice new thing to Mac OS X?

Posted by: Zyxwv88

Yes, it would work for ringtones on an audiovox 8900, but it's 10x easier to use brewsky because you'll have to manually screw around with the index file, whereas brewsky does it all for you. I promise you, this program isn't as good as brewsky or bitpim for uploading stuff to your phone.

I'll say one more time for those who like to skip stuff. This file lets you upload stuff to your phone in almost the exact same way as bitpim. The ONLY place I see a use for it is in modifying things like lock codes or phone settings that you can't do as easily in brewsky/bitpim. Wallpapers, ringtones, calendar, and stuff like that are all a VERY MANUAL process. It's not just like uploading a file and it works. It's downloading the index, screwing around with it, uploading the index, uploading the ringer, hoping you did it right and you didn't screw up the file.

Posted by: blazer380

Just to clear up some confusion.

If you are successful with using BitPim or Brewsky, then just keep using those. If it aint broke, dont fix it.

If you are having trouble with the above mentioned, then you should try the QPST software. It is not meant to be a complete replacement of BitPim, but just another tool to assist in the transfer of files to and from your phone.

Always make sure your phone is turned on and plugged in before starting QPST.

One thing that I have noticed that QPST does better is with the VX6000 phones, you can transfer an mp3 (renamed to .mid) and it works. I have tried the same exact thing with BitPim and the phone would only play files under 30K. With QPST, it plays files over 300K.

This is also the ONLY program that will let you transfer animated gifs to your VX7000.

Posted by: 6070guy

There's a very easy way to tell what COM port your phone is on - the Windows Control Panel will tell you if you open the System utility.

On XP, open the System utility in the Control Panel. Click the Hardware tab. Click the "Device Manager" button. On the list of devices, click the "Ports" item to open it. You should see your phone listed there, along with the COM port number it has been assigned.

can you give us some more details on how far you have gotten and what step are you getting stuck on? The more details you give us, the better we can help you. Saying it doesnt work really doesnt mean much.

also are you with Verizon?

my computer wont even recognize the phone. heres the scenario.

i plug the phone up, it goes to the download for the hardware. and says it cant download it for such and such reason. what the hell is that all about? is there anywhere that i can manually download the hardware/software offline rather than relying on my apparent piece of crap vx6000.

thanks.

i cant recognize a com port without the phone being "installed" on my computer. so please help!

Posted by: blazer380

you need to unplug the phone, download the USB Modem drivers, look at the 1st post of this thread for the link. Install those drivers. Plug in your phone, and go from there....

cool thanks. im on it.

I posted about 3 other posts in this thread saying what my problem was, I'll post it again so you can help.

On my VERIZON T720:
QPST is working correctly and recognizes my phone. I can see the folders and files on my phone. I can upload ringers and pictures to the phone. I do not have an "image.dat" or "sound.dat" file to delete to get the phone to re-index the files i put on it. The phone does not allow me to select the images and ringers i put on it, it acts like they are not there. Since I do not have these files is there something I am missing? Is it named something else? I have tried deleting the "Mytones.db" file(s) and it didnt make a difference, the phone just remade the files.

Thanks in advance.

Can anyone give me a link to this Brewsky program to download and some basic insts. on how to use to upload Mp3's to the Audivox 8900?

Thanks in advance.

Check the Audiovox forums. There are a couple threads there that have Brewsky info on them and all the info you are wanting.

Has anyone tried this on the SE47 Slider for Verizon? I just downloaded the program, but won't have the chance to experiment until I get home this evening.

last i checked the qualcomm chipset is only used by CDMA phones which have the BREW platform, not GSM phones that use JAVA

Posted by: Genisis

This is a pretty slick program. I must say thanks to all for all the posted info. Only plus's that I see with this program over BITPIM is a little better speed on connection and info tranfers and a better looking GUI. I think its running on a smaller footprint too. I think Ill just use both and keep both to be safe.

well just curious im gonna get the datacable soon, how do i get bitpim to work? what are the settings?

I'm not sure if it has a qualcomm chipset, but I doubt it. I think they went back to Texas Instruments for the chip. Either way, the Qualcomm filesystem apps and BitPim don't work with the 3589i. Looking at the BitPim protocol log, you can see that the phone simply doesn't understand the really basic AT commands used to access the Brew filesystem. I am going to try implementing Nokia support for BitPim, but its a lot to do, and I'm new to this kind of thing.

i got it to work, but in EFS explorer after i select my phone is waits and then says this phone does not support embedded files would you like to disconnect or something like that and it says yes or no. whats up with that??

What kind of cable are you using for the VX7000?

hey, i was just testing this qualcomm program out on my vx-4400 and it apears like it would work but ive tried and can not figure it out so if anyone has gotten there 4400 to work with this let me know i will apreciate it a ton.

thx naturefreak, got the movie file, threw it in ulead gif maker and bam...animated gif's from the movie video. this program ruleZ

Posted by: crazyitalian

For people with the 3589i phone, why do you want to use this program. MobiMB works perfect and so does oxygen phone manager II. Oxygen lets you edit phone book, calander, messages, call log, and profiles. It also lets you put ringtones into the main ringtones list (not the gallery). MobMB lets you put ringtones in the gallery as well as jpeg, bitmap, and gif images. The one problem with these programs is games. the 3589i does not support Java games because it is a brew phone. If anyone has any information on how to get brew games onto the 3589i phone or at least where to get the games please post. Thanks!

animated only works on LG7000. If you have VX6000, you will be able to see the gif, but only the 1st frame (not animated)

check in device manager what your COM port # is and use that... it might be some other one...... also make sure phone is plugged in

I saw that one of the programs allows you to upgrade the software. When I took my phone to the store, they couldn't do it, so I want to try it myself. Now where would one get the latest software for LG VX4400?
TIA.

I successfully got this program to work with my vx4500. Here's the scoop:

Phone: LG VX4500
Provider: Verizon
USB Cable: Purchased from Verizon
Drivers: Bundled with cable
Bitpim Success: Yes
QPST EFS Explorer Success: Yes
Port: COM5
Animated Gifs: No
(The default caller ID pic is animated...so there should be a way to do it.)

Ringtone Location:
user\sound\ringer

Wallpaper:
brew\shared

hi
i installed the lg usb drivers for my vx7000 from this site ..http://us.lge.com/Product/proddetai...categoryId=0401

and rebooted
then plugged in my phone it said "incompatible charger" on the phone. i pressed OK. but win xp didn't detect anything.. QPST seems very attractive and friendly.. but i guess i can't use it until the OS actually detects the phone..
please assist me any help appreciated pal!

PS my cable says vx6000 on it.. but i modified it so it fits on vx7000.

if your phone says INCOM CHARGER, its supposed to say that. Try using bitPim and see maybe it would detect your phone. Also check your device manager and see under Modems.

I get through all the basic port stuff, then when I go into the EFS Explorer, it gives a message saying I have an incorrect SPC. Anybody know where or how I can find my SPC?

Does this program do anything bitpim cannot do with this phone, vx4500? If so, then how do you so it. I mainly want animated GIF or set pictures for caller ID. Thanks

uggggh i have a 6000 and i downloaded the usb modem drive or whatever on the pervious page and then plugged in the usb cord and then plugged in the cell and turned it off then back on and it says it cant reconigze my usb device or whatever. anyone know what to do?

Does anyone know what the SPC # is. I have a LG 5550 phone.

thanks

Posted by: Zyxwv88

On USCC there isn't a set number for the SPC. When the PRL update is done, it is changed, and the only way to get the SPC is either to get it from USCC, or to use bitpim and extract it. Don't remember what file it is supposed to be in, but one of the threads somewhere lists how to get the SPC using bitpim.

Posted by: Verizon

ok Bought the VX7000 asked for a data cable I was handed the VX6000 data cable it works. I had to download new drivers from Verizons website though (link is on my pc so I don't have it now I will later) At any rate BitPim does not work it doesn't list my phone as a phone that can be used. I started using the qualacom program which I guess I am going to have to stick with. I really just want to sync my contacts and add mp3's .. Oh well.. I will wait

Posted by: Zyxwv88

Bitpim ONLY lists phones that Roger has personally tested and made completely compatible with his software.

Some phones you can get to work by telling it you have a different phone that may be compatible. Not sure if anyone has figured out what to tell it on the 7000, but on the 5550 that I have, it works if you tell it you have a 4500.

On the 7000, I'd suggest either playing with bitpim and trying other phones and settings until you find something that works (or figure out that it can't be done), or you wait until someone else does the same and posts the information.

Posted by: blazer380

select VX6000 when configuring BitPim for the VX7000.

And you CAN use QPST program to transfer mp3s to and from your VX6000. (not sure about contacts)

Posted by: blazer380

HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT COM PORT YOUR PHONE IS ON:

1) After you install the VX6000 USB Drivers (that u dled from LG), reboot your computer
2)Plug in your phone
3)Right Click on MY COMPUTER
4)Select Properties
5)Go to Hardware Tab
6)Click on Device Manager
7)Click on the + next to Ports
8)Check to see what Com port is listed next to your LG

When using QPST for the 1st time, you will need to run the QPST Configuration. This is where you will add that Com port.

Also, you cannot run BitPim and QPST at the same time, please run one or the other, but not both simultaneously.

If you run QPST and it doesnt recognize your phone:
* make sure the USB drivers are installed
* Unplug your phone
* Reboot PC
* Plug in your phone
* Start QPST (EFS EXPLORER)

Posted by: bgates222

the exact message when upkloading an mp3 is

an error occured while trying to upload the file "motorola/shared/audio/name of file.mp3" to the phone

error code (253) : failed to transmit request packet

I'm in a quandry. I used this program all day today, until is updated the PRL list. Now the SPC# has changed, and I cannot seem to get BitPim to work to get the file that has the SPC# in it. Is the SPC# randomly created by USCC, or is it one of the default ones? If it isn't the one of the default ones, am I pretty much SOL on this now? If so, I want to SCREAM.... Any help would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated.

I bet that it'll work.. meaning it'll let you get into your phone and let you add and delete files..

the only thing is you kinda dont want to do anything that might screw up the phone. it should work fine if you just want to download pictures from your phone into your comp.

im not sure if it will work, is it CDMA or GSM? if it is GSM then most likely it wont since it probably doesnt have the qualcomm chipset, if it is CDMA then there is the chance, i couldnt find that phone model ANYWHERE on LG's website, so im not sure, but like i said GSM most likely not happening, CDMA possibly

Posted by: gjj

I'm using a Samsung SCH-a670 and QPST seems to work, but I added a file and now I can't delete it. Illegal Operation Attempted, it says. It's a jpg and it is where pictures from the digital camera should be. I added a picture before without trouble, I think, but this one wasn't the proper format or something. If anyone can help me delete it, I would be a happier person.

Where did you get the USB drivers for the v710? I have a data cable from my v60i and the Truesync software from Starfish and I haven't been able to find a driver for the v710. When I plug the cable into my Windows XP laptop it tells me that it cannot find the correct driver.

Posted by: Posum

I didn't need any drivers since it isn't a USB cable.

Posted by: lherring81

Does this work with the LX 5450??? How does it work if it does?

Posted by: pandemic

Hey this is just a heads up to other LG4600 users who try this out. The QPST Software brings up the directory tree, but when you move/edit files it brings up "service required" on the phone. A power cycle seemed to solve it, but it freaked me out nonetheless.

Posted by: blazer380

it does that randomly on any phone, so no worries.

Posted by: Alias

Does anyone have the drivers for the 710? I've been unable to find them.

Any line on the motorola phone tools..?

Thanks

Posted by: Nait Sirhc

Has anyone with an actual serial PST cable and parallel keylock gotten the QPST to work with a Motorola phone?

We have a PST machine here and I've experimented with this software, but it doesn't recognize the phone. I've got an old Qwest v60i and it has an MSL on it that I don't recognize. I'd like to be able to retrieve (or just overwrite) that, and the Motorola PST won't do it.

Posted by: Alias

Will this work with the 710? I get QPST to recognize my phone, but it says it cant build the file or some crap like that. Anyone have any luck with Moto phones? Qulcomm chipset isn't it? Thanks.

Hi, sorry if I missed something, but is it possible to get any animated gifs on the front LCD of a VX6000? Is there any way to replace the clock with an animation when it goes into its screen saver type deal? I know there aren't any options, and i've looked around with those programs, particularly QPST, and haven't really figured out where this information might be located. This may have been answered in a previous post, but I might have missed it, or it may have just been unclear to me.

Posted by: blazer380

nope, not possible on the 6K

Posted by: MantasL

Wut about those simple dot-matrix looking gifs? or what about the animations when powering up and down (the welcome and goodbye)? Is there any way to edit those to show different animations? Thanks again for the info.

Posted by: blazer380

nope, cant change that either. whatever ones u have in your phone, those are the only startup animations u can choose from

does this program or bitpim work for vx3200 (verizon). I was told this is cannont be used to upload songs to the vx3200. Is that right?

Seems to work for VX4500 V2

It seems to work for the VX4500... but doesn't appear to solve the memory leak problem with uploaded graphics.

I had to use COM5 for the port (that's the port the install program chose when setting up the USB-to-serial driver for the data cable). It takes several seconds to recognize the phone once you choose the correct port, btw.

And on the VX4500, the image index file that must be deleted is titled "brewImageIndex.map", not "image.dat".

On the vx4500 what is the directory you place the animated gif into? I have tried a coule and they dont show in my list. I deleted the .map file in the above quote and reset the phone.

Thanks,

ScottB

Hi..I have an lg6000 I wanted to know if this software is able to transfer the pix message pics to the harddrive so I can view them...I know bitpim dont..it is saved in the mms directory but when i try to save it .it saves as a hex file and i cannot read it...gives invalid message...thanks in advance....

Thanks for the great tip with QPST software. I was able to get my images in the phone. Can you also tell me what else I can do with it?
I would love to do the following:
1. Set default schedule alarm sound to something else;
2. Add different vibrate signal to differentiate between incoming phone calls and schedule alarms
3. View current time while talking on the phone.

I understand that it might be software limitations for all of this, but some people found some answers...
Thanks for the great help in advance!

on the motorola phone there for a while motorola got smart and started producing thier own chipset havent really looking into the 710 yet but 120, 730, 720, 333, 343 should not have qualcom chipsets could be the reason you are having problems

Posted by: halfshadow

Hey, if anyone can help me it would be great. I can get QPST to find my phone. I added COM3, higher ones give an error message. I know most people with this problem have the program set to the wrong COM port. However, in device manager I don't see ANY COM ports listed, nor any USB drivers listed that would be for the phone. I have tried the driver disc packaged with the cable I bought off ebay, as well as the future dial usb installer. I have a LG VX4500. Also I haven't been successful with BitPim, the only port it sees is "Toshiba Software Modem" which seems to be COM3.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Posted by: ScottB1

What cable did you buy? That is the secret here. I have the vx4500 and I now have successfully used bitpim, Verizon MO, QPST, and DataPilot. What you see in device manager depends on the cable you are using. Is there a box in the middle of the cable or is it a straight USB cable?

I have used all of the above tools with the FutureDial Cable I bought at Radio Shack. It has the Prolific chipset.

Posted by: halfshadow

Sorry I should have mentioned, I have the cable with the box, not the straight USB cable. It is a generic package, but does mention Prolific in the fine print.

Posted by: halfshadow

Is it possible to manually install/configure a COM port for use by BitPim or QPST? Maybe this is just a problem with my computer...

Posted by: ScottB1

Halfshadow,

You have a PM. Try the drivers out first. When you plug in the cable does your computer ask for drivers? It should recognise the cable as ask?

hi i downloaded this program the qualcomm thing but when i tpe in comm port 4 it says error this comm port is busy i dunno whats going on im despertly tryign to get stuff onto my phone any help?

Posted by: ScottB1

Look in device manager and see what port you phone is on. It may not be 4. If it is, make sure you dont have any other applications running against your phone like BitPim.

Posted by: zero0n1

i tried to look up what comm port im on but there is no device manager under my computer i looked at it befor and couldnt find it i mean i also tried to use that ×××× lg content bannk but it only allows to send up to 16 kb

Posted by: ScottB1

Start-->Settings-->Control Panel-->System-->Hardware-->Device Manager-->Ports Com & LPT

Posted by: zero0n1

ok great i found it but all it says on it are comunication (com1) then after that lpt1 and then prolific (com5)

Posted by: halfshadow

My problem is there are no COM & LPT ports listed under device manager for me.

Posted by: halfshadow

Right now when I run BitPim it provides the following message when choosing the settings option: You do not have any com/serial ports on your system. Does anyone even know if this is an issue with my cable, phone, or BitPim? I have a feeling it is just my computer, guess I will go try on a friends system and see. Thanks for any help.

Posted by: ScottB1

zero0n1,

Your phone is on COM5 so you need to set your software to that port. Prolific is the converter that is in your cable. Try COM5 and you should work.

Halfshadow,

Sounds like you either have a bad cable or USB isnt working on your computer. I htink trying another PC is your best bet so at least you can see what should happen when you plug it in.

In an attempt to figure out how to write and replace files to my v710 with the USB cable using bitpim I have screwed up two sound files. If anyone has time in there busy day to send me these two files I would greatly appreciate it. It is in the /motorola/system/ directory and it is two .wav files named count_down_5.wav and count_down_10.wav.Please send to my email after saving the files to your desktop using bitpim.

MeBluEyz99@aol.com - Thank you once again.......

Posted by: zero0n1

do i need some driver or anything?

Posted by: ScottB1

zero0n1,

I dont know about that model and BitPim. Look in the "help" section when you're in the BitPim app. It tells you what models are supported.

ScottB1

Posted by: MeBluEyz99

you need to have the motorola modem usb driver installed depending on the data cable you have.

Posted by: zero0n1

really? a motorolla driver lol but my cable says for lg 4050/4600/4010 i mean it just says that but most phones i think all lg phones are supported by it

Posted by: zero0n1

i looked under the help section my phone isnt suported for bitpim cuz its gsm and what not but there are phones close to it liek hte 4500 the only problem is that my phone only runs like mmf and i was doing all this work to transfer midi's and mp3's to mmf and bitpim doenst suport them. i dunno im just geting really confused and very frustrated people told me ot use sony sound forge i dont no why i guess to cut up songs but after that idont no. anyways where can i get that motorola driver?

Posted by: zero0n1

i ment to say for the qpst, does it work for any gsm phone for lg cuz im dieing to get those ringtones i made to go on the phone omg i want to do it so bad i hate content bank thats hte worst progrma ever only allows 16 kb of transfer

Posted by: G_G_L

i've got vx6000, and i got it all to work, it saw my phone with no prob. i took an mp3 and made it an mid, then went down to the last tab in the prob(can't remember the name, i'm not home anymore). after that it said "ringers" and was blank. so i right clicked, hit new, chose the mid i made. btw, its a full song. it started transferring, and it was doing it for maybe 5-7 min. i had to get to work, so i disconnected the phone and shut the program down. i restarted the phone cuz it said something along the lines of "programming required" after it started up again, i wanted to check the my ringers, to see if it came up, just for ***** and giggles. sure enough the song was there, and a good 1min 30 sec of it. and now we get to the question: a while ago, i used bitpim to put a .mid on my phone. it worked fine, but i wanted it gone. i deleted it, but when i went back to the menu it was still there. only it wouldn't play. and its still there now, always coming back after i delet it, but just not going away. so my question is, if i want to get rid of .mid i put on using this prob, or get rid of that other .mid i put on using bitpim, can this prog do that? or is that doable with bitpim and i just havn't look hard enough? thxn for your help

OK, I got this program up and running and everything works great on my LG vx-4400. But when I try and use it with my Wife's Motorola T730 I get an odd problem. The software recognizes the phone and I can log in and view the filesystem, but When I try to upload a file to the phone it gives me an error:

An Error occured while trying to write the file xxxx to the phone.
error code(101):File system device failure

Also copying files off of the phone doesn't work either, it doesn't give an error like uploading, but the file it copies has a file size of zero.... so it didn't really copy anything.

Incidentally I can't get file uploading/downloading to work in QPSTS, BitPim, or GAGIN. Nothing works for the T720/730 line. Any ideas anyone?

[edit... double post, sorry! ]

Posted by: Yodawg

For the LG 4400 - can it do more than just change the Wallpaper? (can you add ringtones with it?)

CHANGE RINGTONE TIME

Posted by: DrFreakynutz

so is there any way to get animated gifs onto a vx4500 or not? There doesn't seem to be a difinitive yes/no yet. If yes which directory should it go in and which file should be deleted?

Posted by: eddie878

Does this work on LG L1200?

Posted by: zero0n1

NO! this program only works on verizon phones with that chip set theres no decent program for gsm phones

Wow...Many, many thanks to Blazer380 & his website! I've been trying without luck to do something, anything, on my LG VX7000 after I bought a data cable & software cd on ebay. The guy I bought from wasn't helpful other than to finally direct me to this forum and thru that I found Blazer380.

A few hours later and I've replaced my eri.bin file, then decided to edit one myself and custom made my own! I've added some great wallpapers and some cool mp3 tunes as ringtones.

The next thing I want to do is to be able to add/edit my phonebook on my pc and put it on the phone afterwards (or edit it live, if that's possible) so I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks.
Hans

Can you use this to upload animated GIFs to a Vx-4500 and if so, where can I get me some animated GIFs! Thanks for the find!

Later,
Geo

Posted by: cacher03

i tried this on my vx6000 and the gif file was uploaded but it was not animated.

Posted by: LG-LX5450

I tried this with the LG-LX5450 (w/ ALLTEL), had to change the COM port in the device manager, but otherwise it worked great!

THANK!

What cable did u use for the 7000.

Posted by: hansb

I got my cable from this guy via ebay...but you can go direct. It cost me $12, incl shipping.

http://www.blackboxcarputers.com/store.htm

It says vx6000 on it and required no modification to use on my 7000.

Hey guys, can someone please either email me (dmitry_ny@yahoo.com) or send a link where I can download the program? The original link is now dead
Thanks.

Posted by: irshliquor

i second that notion...someone please email or post a link to the program...dead links suck

Posted by: hansb

which program you guys looking for?

Posted by: hansb

Register at Blazer's site and there's all the software you will need in one place, including the one you're looking for.

http://www.s-c-u-m.com/cell/index.php

Posted by: Tim52862

I registered at his site but i never got the email to activate my account. Does someone have the program to email to me?

Inspectorgadget@cinci.rr.com

Thanks in advance

Posted by: tonsofquestions

I'm trying to find the software, too. I've registered at the site, but I can't for the life of me find it on it. I only see wallpapers. For that matter, are any of the other utilities on http://www.unlocker.ru any good? Does anyone have them, by chance?

Posted by: thepunim

The software is actually on that blazer site. After you log in, go to the bottom of the page and click the "FAQ/Tutorials/Software" link and then go to page 2. The software is there.

Also, for those of you who didn't get the activation email, check your spam folders - that's where it was put by my email proggy.
