think about it, i think alot of the phone's chipsets support data rates bettr than 14.4k(2235, 2255, 2760,3035,6035,etc...) by looking up the chipset info on qcom's site, but are software lock'd either in the phone(msl) or the provider's software. visiting the samsung/sanyo forums & websites, thoses users are hurting for drivers for windows & mac, where kyocera readily provides this on their site; & this software may be more flexible than what's offer'd from SPCS,VSW,BELLMOB. & othr cdma providrs. example: sprint's dialer software is revision'd only for *dial-up*, but not packet data, & though they've released packet data, they haven't offer'd eithr the software or the cables for tether'd data on the newr phones yet, though i've noticed a 'big' increase in speed in dial-up thru my oldr handset(2760). i bought s.w. for that phone from qcom in '99 that included drivrs for win95,98,& nt, so i'm thinking; 1) getting a static ip address from SPCS that's used for 1x data & using THAT in place of the dial up numbr, & using internet explorer as a gateway, or/& 2) getting underneath the msl to change the rate sets for packet data, both requiring some serious work or 'inside friends'. overall, can we start a think tank here or what?
