This is a dumb question, but what can or what does the IR Port on the 7230 do?

Might serve some future purpose but for now the IR port is non functional on all Blackberry's.

And the red lens (I refuse to call it an IR port since it can't be used even if it does exist) is not on the Nextel 7510s.

Actually the IR port is useless, and will never be used.

The early versions of the 62XX and 72XX had infared built into the mainboard, but the new ones that are being produced don't.

I've repaired a fair bit with the infared port, but its not something built into the OS. And when I asked one of the RF techs that I was working with what its there for, his reply was that it was feature that did not recieve much attention as the customer base was not intrested in it.
