Crazy 5150 caller ID problem

I have a 5150, 1.106 software, have about 90 talk hours used on it, it has been on almost 24/7 since March.

Up until about a week ago everything has been great, I have used it since March. I have used Multimedia Master and Contact Sync on it, other than that the phone is pretty much at its factory settings. Last week I changed a phone number in one of my phone book entries. Not a big deal, right? After that, whenever anyone would call my phone, the caller ID would display the number of the person calling but would not retrieve the name out of the phone book to display. I tried deleting the phone book and uploading it using Contact Sync thinking maybe something was wrong with the database. Still the problem persisted. I took the batteries out for a while thinking maybe it would reset something. That didn't work so then I reset the phone to the factory defaults. Still wont work. The real crazy thing is that if I look in my Outgoing Calls call history, the names appear as they should. It just will not display a name when someone calls in who is in my Phone Book. It is crazy. I am going to have to get it fixed i guess, but I am curious if anyone else has had this problem or has any suggestions on anything I can do myself to make it work? This is my only phone and I cannot imagine being without a phone while this one is being repaired!

Iduno with other people using the Contact sync is fine. But when i used it to upload all the names and numbers something went wrong and i had that same problem. So i don't use the Contact Snyc i just put the names and numbers by hand. But to check if it is a problem delete ur home phone number or add it by hand, and then call ur cell phone, on your home phone to see if it would work. Thats what i did and i found that it was the Contact Sync.

I got it to work again. I probably did more than I needed to, but here is what I did.

1. Erased Phone Book.
2. Deleted all uploaded pictures and sounds.
3. Unassigned all pictures and sounds.
4. Reset phone to factory defaults.
5. Turned phone off and on.
6. Repeated steps 1 and 4 and 5 just to be sure.
7. Customized the phone settings to my preferences.
8. Uploaded the phone book.

Now it magically works again. Except now I am worried about ever changing any phone book entries! At least I know if I mess with it enough I can make it work again. I have to agree with you about the sync software. Now I am all paranoid about using it and / or uploading pictures and sounds. I guess worst case is that maybe next time I will just manually enter all the phone book entries again like you suggested. At least I know I was not the only person this happened to!

Downer, post the version number of your San5150.dll in the ContactSync software folder. I had this problem before, but now it works fine. If yours is different than mine, I'll email you the file.

I just had a same prob.

but I figure that there is a problem with Contact sync
you just need to del your phonebooks and it will work fine.

I have had my 5150 since Christmas of 2001 and everything has worked awesome. When either my wife or one of the kids would call, their picture would come up and a special ringtone would play for each of them. Then, all of a sudden this weekend after I stored a new phone number on someone, it quit working! Now, all that comes up is the default "ringtone with ID" that I have stored, their number comes up but no picture or special saved ringtone! You can see their picture and special ringtone if you bring up their name and look at it, but it does not come up with the caller ID! If you miss a call, in the call history, it shows the name and phone number that you missed, but nothing else. I had my software updated about a month ago to 1.106SP, my understanding is that there is a new version, 1.107? I wonder if that would fix it? I called sprint and they just said, reload all the pictures and ringtones?? I THINK THEY ARE COVERING FOR SOMETHING THATS WRONG IN THE LATEST SOFTWARE UPDATE! Either that or something is fooey with their 3G upgrade and it has caused a problem!!

It's only the san5150.dll that was updated. The san5000.dll is the same that came with the ContactSync software.

Yep, this is a common problem. It occurs just as you've explained. You add a new person to the phonebook, and all the associations are lost. For some reason if you add everything through the contact sync, then it works fine, but as soon as you add something on top of that by hand, it messes it up.

The solution is just to erase your phonebook, and add them all through contact sync. it's kind of a pain, and you have to reset the pictures to load with certain names and special ringtones for names, but it doesn't take too long. At least you don't have to put in everything by hand! Just back up your whole phonebook to contact sync, then erase it on the phone, then reupload it and set up the ringtones and pictures for people. A pain, but not a huge deal.

I'm having this problem with LD #'s on the SCP-4900...

It's brand new from the Sprint Store... so, what gives? Is this a software bug?

My solution to this problem was simple..... When my 5150's caller ID/phone book went on the fritz I took it back to the sprint store. After only (yes ONLY) arguing with the so called 'tech' for a half an hour over if it was even broken, he finally agreed to run it though some 'tests'. When I returned in the 30 min time that had been requested, I was greated by the manager who said they would be promptly shipping me a new one. New phone works great! (for now)
