You own a Sharp GX30. This is the Vodafone-branded version of this handset. Because the Vodafone company are obsesed with the red and white colour scheme, they have plastered your phone with it. It is not possible to change this, as there is no support for "themes" in this series.

If you really want to change this colour scheme to something remotely more attractive, I'd try flashing the phone with the GX32 firmware. The difference in hardware between the GX30 and GX32 is none at all (TBC). The only differences between these two phones is that the GX30 is Vodafone branded, and the GX32 is not Vodafone branded. Be careful though, if not done correctly, this procedure could render your phone "dead". It worked for me though, and at least I have removed the horrible Vodafone menus.

If you want to do this, you will need a serial or USB data cable (preferably serial as everyone keeps saying that you need a serial cable although I used a USB cable and it worked fine ) and a flashing program (try www.spunlock.com, that's the one I used). You will also need the flash file (obtainable here: http://crux.mados-technology.com/Sharp%20Flashes/) which the one you will need is not available at the moment (you're looking for any one of:

A04-006-0154-GX32
A04-006-0176-GX32
A04-006-0196-GX32

)

In terms of the vodafone live issue, in the GX32, the term is simply replaced by the word "browser" making it friendly to all network users!

after flashing to gx32 would it support chinese input?

Posted by: skrue

i dont think so

Posted by: wai_lai416

i know the gx32 in hongkong supports chinese input, that's why i asked, isn't chinese input firmware/software base and not hardware? so if flash using gx32 firmware shouldn't it support? i'm not sure so that's why i'm asking

I don't own a GX30, but a GX20. I flashed it using the "GX20n" flash file available on the site listed above.

The "GX30n" Firmware does support chinese input. I flashed my phone using the GX20n firmware, and I can write SMS or MMS in Chinese or English. The menu language is also either Chinese or English.

If you go to this site: http://crux.mados-technology.com/Sharp%20Flashes/, you'll find that the GX30n flash is not listed there at the moment. It will be listed hopefully, once someone has uploaded the flash file to it. In the mean-time, bookmark this page, and keep returning to it to see if the flash file you are looking for is listed:

"A??-???-????-GX30n" where ? is any number.

Hope this is of help to you.

ok. my bad. it does

@Wai_lai416 : One last thing, the GX20n (or in your case, the GX30n) firmware supports input of simplified chinese. It does NOT support traditional chinese.

I'm not sure if there actually is an original menu. According to SHARP, they just create the phone --> and then they ship it off to Vodafone (GX20/30) or Smartone (GX22/32) to create the menu, I think.

However, I have heard rumors and seen a picture once about an "unbranded" sharp GX phone (it is the Sharp GX20, but without the Vodafone or smartone logos, and simply SHARP written below the main screen). I'm not sure whether it is real or not, but the content on the screen seemed pretty impressive. I can't remember where i've seen it, but if I come accross it again, i'll post it here.
