i still have my BWC account since working at RIM a year ago and i am using the old mobitex blackberry. is there any way i can continue to use my BWC account on the new rogers blackberry? i am pretty sure i can not, can someone confirm this please? thanks

Should be a matter of logging into the BWC account and changing the BB PIN and IMEI that are associated with the account from the prvious BB to the current one.

but because im popping in a rogers sim, isnt my sim associated with the blackberry data, not BWC?

Don't think so? I've had the same BWC account for years and has seen use with my BB 950/957/6710 etc. just to name a few. Mobitex, GSM-GPRS/CDMA I don't think the carriers communication method matters.

Your BWC account is associated with your PIN, has nothing to do with the SIM/Network that you're on.
Log in to your BWC account and change the PIN associated with the BWC account.

thanks for all your responses....

so technically, a blackberry should work without a sim card right? I mean if its not associated with a sim, all i would need a sim for is to make calls....

this would be super sweet as my BWC account is basically free and i thought i was going to be stuck with an old mobitex device....

that made absolutely no sense....

NO SIM - no data

i only have a rogers SIM, so once rogers knows that im using a blackberry, wont they just charge me the blackberry data plan???

although i have a BWC account and can receive free data on my mobitex device, i think once i switch to my new blackberry with a rogers SIM card, im goign to have to pay for my service....

getting really sleepy so i apologize if im not coherent....

You can't just pop any SIM into a BlackBerry and expect it to work. You need to proper provisioning enabled on that SIM in order to get data from BlackBerry. This all has to be done with your carrier, for now you may only get GSM and possibly lower case gprs but will not be able to get upper case GPRS. You can make calls on the BlackBerry but no data, it will only be voice enabled.

thanks....

If I understand things right in this thread, this means:

- You must use a Blackberry enabled SIM, can't use just any SIM card. Must call carrier to get SIM provisioned for Blackberry use.

- However, once your SIM is Blackberry enabled, you can switch Blackberries anytime on the same carrier as long as the Blackberry is unlocked or compatible with that carrier, just update your BWC with the new PIN when moving your SIM.

Right?
