Quote from link target at "Chewie's Nokia Bits" Step 1: MP3 - WAV MP3 files need first to be converted to WAV files. There are many converters available for the job, just take a look around CNet Downloads and you'll find plenty. WinAmp can do the job, but the format isn't always compatible with programs featured in Step 2. Step 2: WAV - MIDI This is the stumbling block for most people because it isn't easy to find a program to do the job. I know of two programs that can perform the trick, though - Akoff Music Composer & Amazing MIDI. Step 3: Convert to RTTTL There a two ways to do this - manual & automatic. I. Manual: Install Nokring from my Software page, then pop over to CNet Downloads again and find yourself a MIDI sequencer/composer. I use Anvil Studio which is free, although absolutely anything will do the job perfectly well. Just open the MIDI file into your MIDI composer and find the melody track - if you're working on a ringtone preview from a pay site then there'll probably be just one track anyway. You may need to look at each track individually to find the one you want. There should be a way of determining the note that are played; all you have to do is read these and enter them into Nokring. Obviously, you'll need to understand a little of music notation to enter the notes and pauses into Nokring but you can play the tone as you go to detect and correct any errors. You'll also need to use your judgement when setting the tempo. II. Automatic: Load the MIDI file into the Ringtone Editor in Logomanager and it'll automatically get converted to an RTTTL string in the editing box. You can either upload/send the tone to a phone straight off or copy and paste the string into Nokring. I'd recommend putting it into Nokring because Logomanager doesn't do the best conversion job in the world. Update: I've just tried importing a MIDI into Logomanager v1.2.5 and it's handling appears to be much improved. Still not perfect, but much better. |
