Housing Install Instructions for X426

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: princesspril

Hi,
I searched through the forums and was unsuccessful in finding an answer to my problem.
If I am posting in the wrong place I apologize, this is my first post.
I recently purchased a complete housing set for my X426.
I am searching for installation instructions.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I have written a step-by-step procedure to take it apart and hopefully you will be able to walk through it without photos.

Disassembling an SGH-X426/X427

Tools to have: Phillips No. 0 Mini Screwdriver, Tweezers (or needle nose pliers), a sharp pin or a Mini Flat head screwdriver (or a binder clip) and a firm piece of plastic such as an old Credit/ATM card to help separate the seams (optional).

1. Remove the battery and Sim Card.
2. Using the needle or mini screwdriver, remove the rubber piece on the back of the phone near the antenna to reveal the hidden screw.
3. With the No.0 Phillips, remove all five screws on the back of the phone. You may need to use the tweezers at this point to remove the screws to put in a safe place. Remember, they go.
4. Starting at the charger port, slide your thumbnail in the seam to help separate it enough to slide the credit card in and work your way to the top on both ends until the back piece comes off. As you are working your way around, be careful in keeping track of the side Up/Down Buttons and the headset port cover.
5. Once the back piece is off, you can separate the ribbon cable from the circuit board at the top right near the headset port and lift the circuit board out. The rubber piece of the microphone needs to be pushed in from the outside to release the rest of the circuit board. Then the keypad can come out.
6. Remove the black piece of plastic tape near the ribbon cable and set aside (I just stick to the back of the battery). Next comes the hard part of separating the hinge piece from the bottom. I ended up using a wire piece from a Binder Clip to push in the black plastic piece of the hinge rod on the left side to separate the top and bottom pieces. You can still use a Mini Flat Head Screwdriver to push the black piece of the hinge rod in to release the two pieces.
7. Once the rod is out, you can slowly let the ribbon cable go through the hole and the two pieces will be apart.
8. Using the Sharp pin or the Mini Flathead screwdriver, remove the two gray stickers near the hinge on the inside to reveal the two screws. (I put them on the back of the battery as well)
9. Using the Mini No.0 Phillips, carefully remove the two screws and use the tweezers or needle-nose to pull them out and in a safe place.
10. Using your thumbnail, slide it in between the seam near the hinge to slide the credit card in to help separate the faceplate from the phone or continue to use your thumbnail if you prefer. Work your way around both sides until you get to the top area.
11. Then carefully separate the pieces to get the faceplate off.
12. Now you can lift the LCD Circuit board up and you will need to use the mini flat head screwdriver to separate the speaker pieces from the housing that is held in place by double-sided tape.
13. Next you can carefully pry out the magnet that lets the phone know if it is open or closed. It must be removed and put in the new housing as well.
14. The spring-loaded piece must be pulled out and put into the other housing also.
15. That should be it and the assembly should be all done in reverse.

Note: Double check and compare what the OEM replacement housing comes with and what it doesn’t that need to be taken from the old housing for use, especially the antenna.

I'll try to make a guide later with photos to go along when I figure out how to get/make a host site.

I would host you. I have web space and a site about x426 stuff. Very good instructions. I had replaced my housing but the folder did not recognize. Didn't know about that little magnet. You definately saved me a trip to the phone shop. Thanks

You put it in the same spot as where you got it from in your Original Housing. In the top flip near the hinge.

It's only a Black, Soft, almost foamy square piece about a 1/4 inch in size. Held in place with sticky tape.

Sorry no pictures as I don't have them with me on vacation.

Posted by: PregnantWomen

does it look like a little copper foil around a black cushion?
if so, where exactly near the hinge does it go?

Posted by: PregnantWomen

please help me, I have my phone open waiting for a response...

Posted by: roswell108

With the screw side of the faceplate down, near where the hinge would be you will find 3 peices stuck to the phone. One is a larger thin black foam, the other is a mesh covered foam and the final is a thicker foam (not in that order). The thicker foam should be removed to show a small peice of metal as big as the tip of a pen or so. This is the magnet you are looking for, NOT JUST THE FOAM. The foam itself is only a cover for the magnet.

ok wow thanks man, but im having trouble removing it, and when i placce it in the new housing, would I have to just lace the magent and the back rubber on top? or is tere another way i have to do it?

Posted by: roswell108

There should be a small gap in the plastic around the magnet. Use a pin to in this gap to pop out the magnet. This should get it out. When you put it in the new housing, just put it in the same way it came out. The magnet should have a greenish color (or some color) on one side where there was adhesive. The foam peice also has some stick to it that should help hold the magnet down in the new housing.

Anyone has pictures to clarify some of these instructions? Thanks

Posted by: roswell108

Which part do you need pictures for? I have a dissasembled phone that I can take pictures of to show any part of the process.

Posted by: didiee

I guess i'm just looking for a comprehensive guide to replacing the housing. about to start the project, would feel a little more comfortable to have something that I can follow along. So i guess anything helps.

Thanks

Where would one get a new housing for the x427?

Thanx
After Forever

Posted by: roswell108

www.ebay.com They are about $25 including shipping. Other places sell them, but you will pay about $40

Posted by: Mango808

DayDeal has them for $29.99.

X427 OEM Housing

Posted by: roswell108

Like I said earlier, $40. There is shipping and handling on that item. Not to mention Ebay is selling products made and auctioned by.... DAY DEAL! And the win goes to ebay once again!

Posted by: Mango808

Shipping is free on DayDeal if you use the Standard Shipping (4-7 days) through USPS First Class Shipping. Priority Mail (3-4 days) and others are $3.95 and above if you choose them.
Shipping Methods

Just offering other options as some people don't like using ebay and their payment methods.

thanks to all those who wrote tutorials previously that I could steal wording and information from. Be warned, I have done this and it is not for newbies, beginners, those with low brain mass, or those with unsteady hands.

Does this work for the X497 a well?

Well, in case anyone's wonderring...it does.

But to change the faceplate I didn't need to take apart the whole phone. Just the two top screws. Plus, the X497 doesn't have that magnet to worry about.

The screws are pretty shoddy and cheap. They strip VERY easily...so be careful.

And since I bought the phone off of eBay, I don't have a warranty anyway.

Posted by: Mango808

The magnet is in the part you don't need to mess with if you are just changing the faceplate. It is located in the other piece that is still on your phone.

Also, you don't need to use the screws to keep the pieces together, as I lost my screws for my E715 and the faceplate just snaps on and stays on.
