Slider Opinions

I'm still under the 30 day satisfaction deal with US Cellular, and I'm with an LG VX6000. I'm going to have this phone for two years, so I've gotta pick something that I'm going to be happy with for that long. I absolutely LOVE this phone, but while I'm in my 30 days, would anyone recommend/not recommend the slider? I can't get my eye off of the SE47 (or hopefully 44 if it comes out soon) no matter how hard I try....I don't know what I like so much about that phone! Is there a huge difference with it and the VX6000?

Thanks!

Aaron

Well, your best bet is to go to phonescoop.com (or even verizonwireless.com) and do a side by side compare of the features.
You can also read plenty of user reviews there on both phones.

It all depends what you need and/or are looking for.
Camera? vx6000 only
Speakerphone? slider only
etc....

As far as a recommendation goes...
I did plenty of R&D, and I wound up getting the slider.
I absolutely needed Speakerphone, and didn't want a camera.
I also was sucked in by the allure of the slider function. (I'm a sucker for "new" technology).
I also only use the phone for basic functions.

For Pros and Cons, read all the reviews and draw your own conclusions. But, take some of the reviews with a grain of salt.

Thank you for the post.

I've been reading a ton of reviews, and a good deal of them talk about problems with the Slider. I would love to hear positive reviews--and negative as well.

Going in tomorrow (as of right now). Let me know!

Thanks!

the color of the screen does not compare the the LG seris. The LGs have great color while the silder fails way behind

The reviews were definitely "mixed".
But, most complaints were about the small keys, which I didn't care about.

I haven't had any problems in regards to sound quality, sending/receiving calls, or the use of the menu system to access contacts, etc.

Thank you for the information!

Any other advice?

Heres my advice...GET THIS PHONE!!! You'll absolutely love it, no joke.

I've heard people complaints about the Slider, but I've heard more people rave about it. I myself got a slider about 2 months ago- love it, get it, use it.

I'd love to get the slider, but a question:

I get pretty bad reception on my VX6000. Dropped calls, call problems, bad reception, voicemail issues, etc.

Would getting this slider help in any way?

Posted by: johnnyf33

It probably won't help or hurt for that matter.

In my opinion, reception is more tied to the area and to the carrier than it is to the phone.

It may help. The 6000 is absolutely terrible in my area. I'm actually here searching for information because I'm going to go get a new phone tomorrow. It drops calls constantly, and I think it's because it's an all-digital phone and the digital network here is just not good enough. I believe that the slider is dual mode.

If I'm way off base on that someone please correct me.

EDIT: Well, I just read a post that said the SE47 is Digital Only. Verizon's site lists it as "Dual-band" so maybe I'm misunderstanding what dual-band actually means.

The Slider IS dual mode, but not tri mode (no analog AMPS service). I have never had good luck with AMPS anyway, so that doesn't bother me.

I don't want or need a crappy camera in my phone, and LOVE the speakerphone in the Slider.

I have had my SE47 Slider for about six months, and love it. My complaints are few: the lag when typing quickly (the phone will catch up eventually); the weird cursor movement keys (you get used to it); and the external antenna (whatcha gonna do?).

I've heard good and bad things, which makes me so confused--I don't know what to do. I know this decision is important-once I go to the Slider (if I do), I won't be able to go back to the VX6000. Who knows...any more advice?

Thanks!

Okay, this should clear up the confusion.

Dual MODE = analog plus digital
Dual BAND = multiple digital bands (800/1900)

The SE47 is dual band, but not dual mode.

More info here.

you could, you just couldn't do it for free. you'd have to buy a vx6000 on ebay or something... go with the slider...

I love the VX6000 (which I've never used myself)'s OEL display on the outside - NICE. I dislike the camera and cost. (cameras aren't allowed a lot of places). Personally, if I could have got the VX4600 in store I would have. But I love the Slider. It's got some dust under the screen (came with a little - manufacturing issue I guess) but other than that I love it! Unless the camera's an issue, I wouldn't trade a VX6000 for it though, not a chance.

I am seriously considering the SE47 Slider for my next phone (with US Cellular). However, I've heard that when text messaging, you can't jump up and down from line to line. You have to hold left or right to get to a point in a message. I text message VERY much and that would be a serious issue for me. Is there a software fix/patch to let you use the up & down keys....oh....they way they're supposed to be used? I love the Slider in every other aspect, mostly. I may get it anyway.

So many different opinions.... I'm leaning to the Slider, but everytime I look at my 6000, it's hard to give up.

My bad! Sorry!

Well I finally broke down and got my VM Slider this weekend. I love it so far. I'll reserve specific judgements until I have few weeks on it. I had a Kyocera 2119 which served me perfectly well. I hated to do it but I wanted something smaller and something I could load ringtones in.

i had the slider since may 1st. the free internet access is pretty good and i think its better than the LG. the speaker function i find it pretty useless. the sliding is pretty koo, but i found out that u can accidentally pick up calls in ur pocket or for girls, in your purse where as the flip phones don't do that....

SE47: pros
- slides.
- better res.
- extendable antenna
- speaker phone
-voice memo
- free internet is user friendly

cons
- slide type will wear out after many uses b/c it clicks in place.
- u can accidentally slide the phone and pick up calls or prevent calls from coming in
- soft ring tones even at full volume
- not polyphonic ring tones
- smaller screan than the LG
- small buttons makes hard to press
- screen can be scratched up b/c its on the outerside
- battery life sucks
-phone does not charge while talking
- quick letter find for the contact pauses ( it is slow)
- no aftermarket data cable and must buy OEM for 40 bucks
- not compatible with tradition formats such as midi or jpg. must use data cable to upload stuff. can't upload to phone via WAP using transfer and retrieval methods.
- aftermarket holster is really fat. ( twice size of the phone's thickness)
- with aftermarket charger, u can not talk on the phone. it will freeze and glitch on u.

i really want to downgrade to the LG vx6000. if u want to trade phone. let me know. i m on VW

Yeah but the display quality is kind of washy.

Yeah the faceplate can get scratched but that can be replaced... you don't scratch the LCD.

> cons
> - no aftermarket data cable and must buy OEM for 40 bucks

Radio Shack VX6000 cable with inline black box is something like $23. And there are other aftermarket cables, they just don't work

I uploaded plenty of MIDI ringers. And the wallpaper format is BMP. Samsungs will take JPEG but the Audiovoxes took BMP, so it's not that uncommon.

Yeah, plus in my experience the slightest impact sent to the phone flying off toward the pavement.

Not true.

Not in my experience.

Ditto.

i've had the slider since december and i love it. you can get polyphonic ringtones on it. only thing that kinda bugs me is that when u recieve a call and do not wanna accept the call you can't cancel the call, you can only silence the ringer..still a GREAT phone imo!
