Blackberry 7510 Backlight

Does anyone know the status of improving the backlighting capability of the 7510? I see that making it brighter w/o a new unit is probably not do-able, but at least having the light come on automatically once a button is presses would be a big help. Does anyone know of any other change requests or action on this topic? Anyone thinking of some application that looks for data entry and could turn the backlight on automatically?

I'm having the same trouble with my 7750. The backlight only turns on when you actually hit the power button. Dissapointing.

This has been adressed many times in the past. Unfortunately, the concensus is, that it is this way by design. It is apparently a huge battery hog when in use. Bummer isn't it?
On a whole different rant, I've heard all about the increased reception thanks to the antenna, but I'd still like to see the Nextel phones (7510) without one.

I'm ok with the design (I guess), but how about something like some watchdog app that can turn it on when you press a button? What about also lengthening the time that it's on and make it configurable? Would seem like a simple app to create as long as someone has the time to do so?

why not give the user the choice to hog their battery?
