GSM Treo 600 buzzing?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I think this only happens when on an 850 MHz call, but I'm not sure. Does anyone hear the GSM "mosquito buzz" while on a call on their Treo? I hear it all the time, and it's REALLY annoying. Not only do I hear it, but the person I'm talking to hears it too. I've got the newest firmware and everything (3.05 I think).

Also, it seems like my Treo reboots itself or freezes awfully frequently, especially when dialing a call. Any ideas how to fix this?

Go to Treocentral.com. They have many threads on this issue. They also have a potential fix which requires shielding the battery cables which seems to be the possible cause of the buzzing. Some have had success with the fix.

Besides the price, one of the things preventing me from getting a Treo is the fear of frequent lockups or crashes.

But in my mind, the only reason any of the Palm devices I've ever owned in the past would lock up is because of buggy 3rd party apps. For this reason, if I had a Treo 600, I'd probably keep the number of apps to a minimum.

gfunkdave, what sort of programs are you using/running? I'm curious if a "factory out of the box" Treo 600 is prone to crashing.

The only third party apps I have are SnapperMail and Vindigo. I seem to recall the problems starting before I installed either...actually, it happened after my first hard reset.

the buzz is a hardware issue. look at T|C or mytreo.net to get the fix like the second poster mentioned

Wirelessly posted (Treo 600: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 95; PalmSource; Blazer 3.0) 16;160x160)

I did the fix for the buzzing issue and I can tell you that it make a huge difference. As for the crashing, I've found that it tends t be 3rd party apps that run in the background (like Profeo). After removing afew suspect apps I have reduced by crash rate from several times a day to a couple times a week.
I removed snapper mail because I found it would create problems when starting up to auto check for mail while in the case.

Chatter is the most notorious crasher for me

You don't have to remove Snappermail, just set it to not check for mail automatically....
Snappermail works flawlessly with the Treo 600.

turning off auto checking makes the mail app 50% less useful to me. It seems that many other also want snapper mail to take advantage of the T600's ability to work while sleeping - check out the snapper mail yahoo group. In the end I find the standard mail app elegantly simple and adaquate.
