T610 software

Hello.
I have a sony t610 which ive had since christmas. Thing is i reckon it needs a software upgrade and just wondered if it is/was possible do this myself online or if it really does need to be sent down to the repair centre like im told. I cant wait any longer for a loan phone from the shop i bought it from and would just like to get it over & done with.
Any info most appreciated
