BB Desktop Manager Disabled

I did a search on the forum and couldn't find any information on this problem.

I have a BB 7230 w/T-Mobile. The Desktop Manager seems to be permanently disabled. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it and it didn't help.

When I click on the Destktop Manager icon, I get the warning message "Use the "connection settings" dialog under the options menu to specify the communications settings you wish to use." So I click ok (the only option I have) and the Desktop Manager remains disabled. I can't get into the program to change any options. Or to do anything for that matter. The program is just that little bar that you see across the top of the window with the minimize and close buttons - and it says "disabled." It disables itself and then that warning pops up.

I purchased a license for the Terratial ScreenEngager and need to be able to install it. I've been running around in circles. I finally downloaded the software directly from the website with my Blackbery, but a module is missing. Their help section says if that happens I will have to install it by using the Desktop Manager to transfer it into my Blackberry. So neither of these two options work for me, and I have a $30 piece of software sitting here that I can't do anything with.

I've had this less than a month, and it wasn't provided to me through work - so the software hasn't been limited by a company.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated here.

The reason why you're getting this is because Desktop Manager needs to be able to connect to your BlackBerry. When you get this, make sure that you have your BlackBerry cradled.
Go to Options --> Connection Settings --> Click on 'Detect' and then 'Ok'. Let the Desktop Manager connect to your BlackBerry.

Thanks for replying.

Where am I supposed to be looking for these options? Because on the Blackberry itself, I have nothing that says "connection settings" under my options. If it's in the Desktop Manager software, I can't use it because it's disabled and won't let me use it. That's the problem - the software is telling me to change a setting, but not letting me use the software in order to make the change.

Where did you get the Desktop software?
How are you using the BlackBerry? BWC, BES or Desktop Redirector, how are you getting sending/receiving emails?

You can go here and d/l the Desktop Software:
Desktop Software

Here are instructions for how to erase all components of the desktop and handheld software from your machine, do this first before you install the Desktop software.

· Remove any old desktop software through add/remove programs.
· Remove any old handheld software through add/remove programs, there may be several. (The handheld software should be uninstalled already, if you first uninstalled the desktop software.)
· Delete the following key(s) from registry, if they exist:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Research In Motion
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Puma Technology HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In Motion
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PUMATECH
· Delete the folder that the Desktop Manager is installed in. Usually, C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry
(To find where program files is located, type ‘%programfiles%\Research In Motion\BlackBerry’ in the run window)
· Delete the user settings:
C:\Windows\Application Data\Research in Motion (for Win9x)
C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Research in Motion (for WinNT/2000/XP)
Note: If you cannot see the Application Data folder it could be because it is hidden. To show this file:
Go to My Computer à Tools à Folder Options… Look at the View tab. Enable “Show hidden files and folders”. Click OK.
· Delete Intellisync shared files (if it exists): C:\Program Files\Common Files\Pumatech Shared
· Delete commonly-shared files from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion (This file only exists in the 3.6.0 desktops and higher.)

Your computer should now be ‘clean’ of all BlackBerry desktop and handheld software.

From T-Mobile, bundled with my Blackberry.

I set up a T-mobile email address right through my Blackberry. According to my book, that would mean I'm using the BWC. I'm not forwarding any messages from another email account so I didn't think I was even going to use the Desktop Manager. Then I ran into this problem with the 3rd party software.

Thanks for the instructions. I will print them out and try to start fresh again. I've already been to the Blackberry website, and the software I received from T-Mobile is the latest version available, so I should be able to use my own CD.

Thanks again! I hope it works!
