It is not possible. The only way is to do it by GPRS through WAP.

can you post some wap sites. thanks

The only one I can think of at the moment is:

wap.ranova.org

they have loads of JAVA games but I'm not sure if they are all compatible with the Sharp GX series.

In the mean time i'll keep looking

Bugger I got a disk full of java games and ringtones with the data cable, so I won't be able to get the games onto the phone with the cable?

I have a bit webspace would it be possible to make a site and put all those games on it for download?

Posted by: naimwslim04

Yes you can do that. Create your own site and access it using your WAP browser.

However, around two minutes ago, just before I got your reply, I have started a new thread, which you all may want to see:

"Finally. Could this be the way to download JAVA apps from the PC to the phone?"

Just noticed that after I posted, I've got the prog but have to wait till I get home to try it.

If the programme don't work:
Are there any special considerations when dealing with wap sites or can I just put them together in frontpage like a normal site? (besides making the files as small as possible)

Well I'm not an expert in web design, but I think:

1. The webpage needs a .wml extension, not .html
2. The page should be just text and graphics - no frames, hotspots, layers, etc
3. The graphics should be very limited in size - small graphics, either black and white or colour depending on the target phone.

HTML seems to work too. Do you know what format the games should be in? Their winrar archive files on the disk, some of them have an extra .jad file aswell. I made up a page quick and I can see that page but the links don't let you download them.

wow, I was just going to order this phone, till I read this thread.. that's so stupid, can't upload any files to the phone? wow.. what a WASTE...

Quite right, the Java apps are made up of JAD and JAR files. The JAR file seems to be the application itself, and the JAD file is like an information file about the JAR file. It is common practice that one would install the JAD file, and the JAR file would follow. At least, with my Nokia 6600 (where it is possible to transfer JAVA files ) I would select the JAD file and the JAR would follow.

Are the games on your disk compatible with the Sharp phone? What type of error message are you getting when you try to download them?

- If it is a "Unknown file format" error, then the app is not supported on your phone.

- If it is an "Access denied" error, then ... i'm not too sure about that one lol, it sometimes works if you try again later

What error are you getting?

@Stang: True, it is a waste of a good phone with all these restrictions. You can upload images, sounds and videos however, but not java games. Images and Videos have to be less than 100KB, and sounds 50KB, unlike most other phones where the limits are only governed by the amount of memory you have on the phone!

I just put together a quick page in frontpage, it was only html but it worked. then I just linked to the file with an ordinary hyperlink, when I follow that link I get ether a blank screen or gibberish. I got some guides on .wml but it didn't have anything on downloading apps. I think the page was just a mess so it's back to the drawing board.

I know, it's a pain. You can upload everything but apps. Even the video comes out in a wierd format, I presume I have to download a codec or something.

3gp is not a weird format, it's for quicktime
